Absolutely splendid, marrying the update with the traditional in a non-disruptive way. Musically, I give the palm to the orchestra (who were superb) and to the Escort, who were exceptionally well-drilled and costumed. Making all of that effort raises the level of the entire performance. BRAVO!

Magnificently done... I actually got goosebumps watching and listening! The update works... if air travel had existed in Gilbert's time, he would have worked it in as he did with references to telephones, buses, the Tube, etc. And the production values, both visual and musical, are superb. That's the key to presenting the G&S shows that weren't mega-hits.
My society (Sudbury, Mass.) also did Utopia in 2009. It was uncanny how many of the original references fit the modern financial situation. Goldbury's "Seven men" song could have been newly written.

This is my second favourite G snd S. My first is the very underrated Grand Duke.

This is a very fine rendering of this scene. Bonus points to the producer and wardrobe department for not using the updating too duck out of clothing the escort in full dress LG uniforms and also making the effort not to just use Patience Heavy Dragoons, which one sees all too often!

Seattle Repertory / Bagley-Wright Theatre. Big and beautiful, wonderful house.

Very well sung, played and staged. This G & S society must have a lot of money! This is such a great number. Captures the sound and feel of the late Victorian British Empire.

Family Entertainment, since 1954. Very supportive Audience base, and only the one production per year, so time can be lavished on sets and costumes and...rehearsal! An amateur company that performs to a Pro standard.
I was Calynx in this production, and it was great to work with them.

So many clever versions. I also like the Trent Opera version with the Star Trek theme. These cliips will keep me smiling while all the UK theatres are closed. I know it's rude to shout but THANK YOU!

I might that I am impressed with the cleverness of this production, updating the whole look so that it feels like it really is in the early 20th century, with visual reminders of 20th century Royals. I see that in other clips from this production. Makes it more believable.
