The comparison Sainz / Verstappen as both being rookies doesn't paint the whole picture. They were totally different kind of rookies. Sainz was quite a bit older and had 5 years of formula racing behind him. Verstappen did 1 year F3 then straight into F1. That fact alone is incredible.
That Albon interview was fantastic. When I watched it I couldn't stop thinking "wow, this guy is really introspective and intelligent and just seems like a really likeable nice guy" To paraphrase him: -They don't make the car for Max, they just make it as theoretically fast as they can make it, and expect the drivers to be professionals who can drive it in a way that will bring that pace out of it. -Max is *really* good at getting that pace out of it, but then he gives fantastic feedback and finds faster setups than his teammates can. -The setups tend to be closer and closer to the edge, and become faster but incredibly difficult to drive. -The teammates watch Max's data and try to find the speed that he does but the car is just too close to the edge and they can't handle it the way he does. Basically, he can get a car in a narrow setup groove and keep it there better than anyone else, and they just can't match him as the season goes on and the optimal setup gets narrower and narrower. I didn't recognize it until he said it and now I can't unsee the effect. I think it says a lot that the best drivers in the world can't match his technique even with all the millisecond-by-millisecond data.
Albon is a great guy, he was just unlucky to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. They should have given him at least full season at TR, perhaps even more.
I absolutely love listening to Alex Albon talk about F1. He's nice and polite, and he is actually able to explain things in a way that I think most fans can understand.
I also loved what Alex said about it being like a computer mouse put to max sensitivity during a game and Max still controlling it. Insane. Agreed Albon should've had more chances and stability
Wait? Sergio has only been in f1 4 years longer than Max. I had to check, he's correct. I thought Sergio had been in so much longer than that. Damn I'm getting old, times going so quick 2016 doesn't feel long ago at all.
It stuns me how long Max has been in F1! And yes, I feel old too, but that's mostly due to the ages of my kids and especially my eldest grandchild (10 last summer. I feel _really_ old around her 😂)
@@y_fam_goeglydjust remember he was 4 (four!) years younger than Piastri this year. Max is also younger than Gasly and Albon and is only 1 month older than Charles.
Max is just awesom at knowing the level of grip the car has. I think he might even be the best at that. Other drivers are storng in different categorys ( for example tactics).
Mathematically speaking oversteer is faster than understeer but it's harder to drive a car that steers too much than a car that steers less. Max Verstappen is a special breed that has the ability to control a rwd 1000hp 800kg car with a lot of oversteer. And another really important bit, in my opinion is that even when he loses control, he somehow always minimizes the damage (for example, the way he does 360 spins and carries on unphased)
I think the pole lap in austria shows your point perfectly. When Ver enters the second to last highspeed corner he catches the car on a slide so fast its unbelievable.
Alex's forthright testimony in that interview explains everything. Max has the ability to adapt to the car and be quick and like Lando said, trying to keep up to him is beyond everyone right now.
Also they'll make the car as sharp as the best driver can handle consistently because sharper is faster if the driver can handle it. Also nice guys don't win. Alex probably isn't very nice to guys wanting his spot either.
What Alex Albon did NOT Fully Explain, which he KNEW about was that the 2020 Car had HUGE Issues with Balance & Max Drove around those Issues…Alex could Not! The Car was NOT supposed to be how bad Alex Experienced it, but Red Bull only discovered that late in that very shortened 2020 Season…
Yeah indeed in pre season it was already clear the rear end was very loose. Alex likes that style too.. but as Alex explained.. Max takes that style to the EXTREME
I vaguely recalled from the blog/press that the car that Albon and Gasly drove was more suited for Max, I think also RB engineers also did mention that they went in the wrong direction at some point because of the high rake concept was tailored base on Max's driving style. Couldnt recall the exact sentence but Alex said something along the lines: "Here I was thinking that I'm driving the car on knife's edge then came Max, suddenly I look I was driving a bus compared to him".
@@slevingaius Its not that, the 2020 car had major issues with pitch sensitivity which Max also hated, but he drove around it and still won 2 races. The car was very pointy but that alone wouldnt impact Albon too much since thats also what he likes, and could dial it out with setup somewhat
@UncleKennysPlace lewis didnt do anything spectacular last year, his pace was pretty much the same as George's all year. Gr just made a lot of mistakes with strategy or contact with other drivers and walls.

Max is simply the best at driving the Red Bull at it's limit without overstepping. He also has an insane reaction time and control over the car whenever he pushes it just a bit too far.
But can’t adapt to a neutral car… it’s happened twice in the last 2 years. If he’s that great at that, why building a neutral car so that they score more points in the constructors?
@@betobeto1241 Hahaha, he can't drive a neutral car. Max adapted to a broken car at Silverstone in 2022 and carried on even passing Gasley with a car that had a 20% loss of downforce. However, former F1 World Champion Mario Andretti's comment about Max always being able to win no matter what ends your argument.
@@betobeto1241 haha, the car wasn't neutral. A few races after the team said they missed the setup at Baku in a similar way they missed it at Singapore. BTW, you never took statistics did you? An over generalization fallacy, that you are using, has the analogy of a snowflake doesn't mean a blizzard.
The car is not completely built around Verstappen. Even before the team really became established around Verstappen, Adrian Newey already mentioned in his book (released in 2017) that he felt that oversteery cars are naturally faster and therefore designs them to be that way. Then it's just a coincidence that Verstappen also prefers this type of balance.
People also forget besides being extremely young, Max only had one year of Single seater experience.. Being plucked out European Formula 3 straight into F1,, Max first year of F1 should have realistically been 2017
Not really. Before F3 he did 12 races in the Florida Winter Series. Besides that he was racing single seated, open wheeled carts since he was 4 years old. Max was probably the most experienced rookie ever.
@@filegrabber1 ok carts are completely different than Open wheel cars… and the Winter series is a non competitive racing series organized by the Ferrari driver academy in the US and when u say 12 races it was 4 weekends with 3 non points races at each circuit .. and it was the same for European formula 3 it was 3 sprint style races over the course of 11 weekends..and again Sainz had 5 years of Open Wheel Cars..So essentially Max had 15 weeks of open wheels car experience.. Max should have went to Gp3 and GP2 as it was then and his first year should have been 2017.. andddddd he was 17 years old,, you think you could of handled F1 at that age…
@@Jrh-rp7np Non-competitive, are you crazy? That was a career changing event, not some show just for fun. And sometimes a prodigy skips a few classes, happens all the time. He naturally mastered the F3 style car from the get-go and he already had tons of winner experience or a 15 year old. Sure, a bit young, but definitely not a standard.
To underscore how extremely well Verstappen adapts to the characteristics of a car, search online for a BBC article "Most need 150km to get used to F1, Verstappen needed a lap" In that interview former Alpha Tauri team principal Franz Tost said the following: _"During his first test I was really impressed how fast he adapted to the speed and brakes… normally drivers need 100-150km to get used to the enormous power which an F1 car has under accelerating and under braking. But from the first lap onwards he was familiar with everything."_
I've heard similar things from circuit managers and other insiders, they had never seen someone drive the early laps the way Max did, some having also witnessed other greats like Lewis. It's telling of another spec of talent.
Max knows one thing.....racing. Sure you could say that for any other driver, but as a kid and even now, Max's whole daily life revolves around racing.
I've said it before and I will say it again. Max Verstappen is _EXACTLY_ the driver what Red Bull had wanted. They want a pointy car, and Max Verstappen excels at controlling pointy cars. They don't build the car around him; he's just at the perfect place at the perfect time.
no they don't build it around him but they do tune it specifically for him, Albon said that in an interview which is why teammates struggle more as the season progresses because they have to match his driving style more and more, it's not equal on the team at all (according to Albon, evidence seems to agree as well in terms of delta)
I think it is not just that the sharp front end of the car suits Max, I think it has more to do with the adaptability of Max. For instance in Sim racing he loves driving GT cars which, if I'm not mistaken, have quite a bit of understeer. Still he mastered it and is beating seasoned simracers with them.
@@sFde46Well, understeer is a killer too when racing on the edge. On the regular road it is indeed preferable over snappy oversteer, but when racing I mind oversteer less than understeer...
@@sFde46 Not quite. With an oversteering car, simply don't dive as much on the brakes (leave more margin). With understeering cars, you just can't recover from it, having to be more anticipating of the conditions of the track and car before you even use the brakes. For me, GT cars feel like absolute boats. I don't enjoy them even remotely as much as simdriving an F1 car. However, races on GT cars can be tons of fun.
Max was born to race. He was molded into a driving genius by his parents. It's hard to beat someone who has been surounded by and participated in racing his entire life, and devoted his entire life to it. Max is a machine.
@@paulmichaelfreedman8334I'm not saying anything that demerits his driving, but it's not a talent. He wasn't born with the ability to drive an F1 car. He was basically forced to practice since he was 2yo by his dad and has worked non-stop since to achieve what he has achieved. I don't understand what kind of idiot think I'm trying to demerit him with my comment. It's not terminology, it's method and process. And it matters, a lot.

I think it has a lot to do with Newey. When you look for the Beyond the grid episode with J.P. Montoya where he talks about the difference back in the day between Williams and McLaren (made by Newey). His feedback on that car is the same as Albons. Williams was much easier to drive and he had a lot of confidence even on the absolute limit of the car. In McLare he was not so confident because the car was really twitchy but in the end it was faster. Also one thing which is really important when you compare Max's rookie season to Hamilton, Vettel or MSC - they had basically unlimited real on track testing. Max didn't.
Albon apparently never drove a f1 car before 2019, not even in practice. And just got half a season in Torro Rosso. For comparison Max got 1.3 season in Torro Rosso before moving to RB, same for Gasly. The second most important point is that RB16 was a DEFECTIVE car which Max with his experience and talent managed to excel in but with great difficulty. Whereas Albon didn't have that experience to excel in that DEFECTIVE car even though he was supremely talented. Don't judge a baby Albon on his inability to drive a DEFECTIVE car. Because criteria should be to excel in good cars. Albon helped develop RB16b BTW.
I’m high on Albon, people are sleeping on him. He’s going to be fighting for the top soon if paired with the right team to contend. Williams is making strides as well so we’ll see
@@Conservator. It's just that Albon got kicked out of RB not just once but twice. First time in his junior years and 2nd time in 2021. It doesn't build much confidence in RB if you ask me.
You can combine this Albon interview with one by Newey from a few years back. He essentially said that Max “spoiled” then - he was hiding a lot of defects in the car design that were making it really hard to drive, because he can simply drive anything. They were making the car to go as fast as possible, but it was getting really hard to drive. So, it combines well with Alex’s take that “the car is what it is”
The best part of Alex’s interview was how he described that Max’s style is like constantly increasing the mouse sensitivity in a game while Alex was still getting use to a lower setting
Max is the golden cow, he fliped the coin around for redbull, and the cars are made to ensure they always win the races, max is the best bet, and making the car around him gives better chances to win during the season. He was born, and raised during his whole life to drive, he was a life-long investment, and everyone on redbull is getting the fruits of that bet now. Redbull requires a teammate to be with max, but he is not expected to be better, nor win more, he just needs to be there. being on redbull is being overshadowed by max.
Let me say these... I don't actually do much comments on social platform but I am a formula 1 fan... Max V IMO is like a season dog or horse trainer that NO matter how stubborn or how viscious or how wild the horse/Dog is... He can tame it in short period of time..like a professional dancer.. He can dance any kind of music.. So is with the F1 car he adjust and tamed the car in such a short period of time.. Pure Talent it is
@@saycero lol, what a hater. His crashes early on in his career do not undermine his crazy talent. It's because of him being immature, hot headed, maybe impatient. Also his way too young. But many saw his talent, there's a reason why he's the youngest driver to race in f1, add to that being the youngest Grand Prix winner. Also Max always drive at maximum output, squeezing everything he can out of the car.
Max has a natural ability with machines. He can get coffee out of my coffee machine of a quality that I can only dream of, and in half the time it takes me to brew coffee.
as a casual f1 fan I only recently started to play f1 games with traction control off, and I can relate to what Alex said so much. I'm so hesitant on the throttle and pray the rear doesn't kick out
These statistics say one thing which I’m not surprised about. He’s only had one teammate, who was actually close to him in performance: Carlos Sainz They will never pair Carlos with Max. The last thing Red Bull needs is a Driver war. Carlos is a lead driver, not a second driver.
In a class on control systems at grad school, I remember my professor saying that the fastest maneuvering vehicle is an inherently unstable one. The example he mentioned was the F-22 with its optimization controls (Great MIT video on this topic: m.th-cam.com/video/n068fel-W9I/w-d-xo.html) The control inputs to get the optimal result is often very non-intuitive. For the F-22, the control surfaces (think wing flaps) will do really strange motions to move the plane in the intended direction. It seems the current Red Bull car is also inherently unstable and Verstappen has the mental circuitry to control it.
Yup, it's why modern fighter jets are fly-by-computer, with the computer doing the actual direct control of wing angles etc. Max is a purebred racer, he was born and raised for that single purpose and it shows.
Always love the way you look in to things out of your own experience and knowledge and really analyse the actual fine details. A lot of channels and video's are made by people without the experience and just simplify everything. And you always tell and explain stuff so we can actually learn and understand it. Great video as always. Thanks mate!
So, what I'm hearing is that Max has a natural penchant for driving Newey cars. And since he's most successful out of the gate, the development direction trends more towards his preferences.
Max can drive any car, no matter what. It just so happens the best driver (Max) automatically gets paired up with the best designer in F1 (Newey). It was bound to happen sooner or later, it happened soon in Max' case rather than later.
Max Verstappen's dominance over his team mates reminds me of Michael Schumacher in the early part of his F1 career. Take 1994 for example: while Schumacher had a lowest finish of second in the races he finished, JJ Lehto, Jos Verstappen and Johnny Herbert couldn't amass more than 11 points combined between them. The most telling stats are from the two races Schumacher was banned in 1994. In Monza and Estoril, without their star driver, Benetton barely reached the top 10 in qualifying for both (Jos Verstappen qualified 10th for both and Lehto struggled badly in what would have been Schumacher's car by qualifying 20th and 14th respectively. In the races, Verstappen had a DNF in Monza due to accident damage and finished 5th in Estoril, while Lehto finished 9th at Monza and spun into retirement at Estoril)
@Nefus1988 if you listen to what they all complained about, the car being too much of a handful and as a result, they were unable to find the limit, you'll know that the theories about driver aids are just that, theories. Yes, the B194 was found to have the software for Launch Control, labelled as Option 13, but there was never conclusive proof that the team had used it. In the case of Traction Control, Ford (their engine supplier) were worried about the effect of cutting out some of the cylinders to reduce wheelspin, on the engine itself. Even if they did run Traction Control, there would be a distinctive rasping noise from the exhaust under acceleration out of the corners. I believe the noises that Senna was observing (at Aida) was under braking, and due to Schumacher's unique driving style. Like Max Verstappen, Schumacher liked a car with a pointy front end, being quite happy for the rear of the car to slide. Lehto, Jos Verstappen and Johnny Herbert had a smoother driving style which didn't suite the B194
Albon compared how the car feels to how a computer game would feel if you turned the mouse sensitivity all the way to the max. I thought that was a brilliant analogy.
What makes Max an impressive talent is his adaptability. The fact that all he does is race even on his off time is kind of a testament to his dedication to the sport. Love him or hate him his talent is undeniable and yet his haters will still cry saying “it’s all the car” lol. Still what I wouldn’t give to see a rookie Max vs rookie Lewis, I think that would be a season to watch!
The work Max put in is insane. He have said the sim racing gives him more ideas how to set up the Red Bull. Sim racing and using different setups, allow him to fine tune more. He was grown up in lab u could say. Hes life have been motor sport from a very young age. This is the result.
His adaptability is so great that he needs and overly oversteer car to be great… With a neutral car, he’s just a really great driver, but was pretty much on checos pace (it’s happened twice in the last 2 seasons when the car was neutral at the beginning of the season)
@@BRUTUSz a lot of the drivers were that way Lewis was racing RC cars when he could barley talk lol that’s what puts these guys at the pinnacle of motorsports it’s their dedication to it. I’ve loved racing since I was a kid who could barely remember his ABC’s but I was from a poor family so I couldn’t do much racing outside of video games. If I had the kind of support these guys had who knows where I’d be right now but at my age the best I could do was invest in a sim rig and live out my dreams in the virtual world lol.
@@betobeto1241 it’s like you didn’t watch the video at all…. The oversteer of the car isn’t cause max wanted it that way 🤦🏻♂️ it’s a result of redbull building a car that could get around the track the fastest and that means the car needs to have natural oversteer. Almost all the fastest cars on the grid have a little or a lot of oversteer. Even if what you said is true checo should have been doing a lot better than he did regardless of how the car is but he couldn’t even consistently get a podium or even score points for that matter. At least with an understeer setup Max could match his pace cant say the same for checo tho…
@@betobeto1241 And if you give other drivers his car they'll either lose control easily or driver far slower. His adaptability is most definitely above the other's.
Newey said he builds the fastest car possible and Max gets 110% out of it. If you look at his sim racing, he can win in a GT3 Ferrari, or a Mercedes. He's fast in anything because he just adapts to the car better than anyone.
Max is pretty average for a top driver in qualifying. He can get the most out of races but he’s very underwhelming over 1 lap at the limit and frequently makes mistakes that top drivers do not.
To expand on what Albon said: The car at the start of the year is not designed for Max. Throughout the year the development of the car will be steered towards the preference of the drivers. However, when one driver is significantly faster than the other, the team will pay more attention to the driver who's faster. Since this has always been Max (at least since 2019), they will listen more to his wishes than his teammate's.
Like evry team deoes built around the N1 faster drive i realy wonder some people make some dumb excuses conspiracy says the car suit him more make it sond like his teamate is better than him and only Red bull sabotage their second driver and also make this narrative of him only wins is becouse have Bad teamates and you know how said that 🤣😭😢
@@obud3777 You don’t want a very strong second driver. I don’t think Albon is weak. He’s open in how he’s constantly trying to improve, that’s not weak imo. During their TR days they weren’t the best of friends but now they get along fine.
Driver61 already crediting video clips to Visa CashApp RB instead of AlphaTauri or Toro Rosso as he says the team name "Toro Rosso" is peak F1 Sponsorship moment😂😂
Those sponsors paid a lot of money to get their name on the team, and when you credit someone in a video you have to use their current copyright info, which means using the current team name.
Between 2014 and 2020 Lewis and Mercedes could dominate due to their far superior engine. Now we are in the ground effect era. And downforce is more important now. Adrian Newey expertise area. Making Verstappens car the best. My point is F1 is a sport where the best driver and the best car go hand in hand. In 2026 their will be new engine rules again. Who will get the best start then IDK, but I hope in the future we can have a combination of making your own car, and tighter fights for top spot. 👍
The Mighty Max! Been a fan since the beginning. The kid was so fast. Now? He's DOMINANT. Pay attention. He just might teach you something. Also, It's way past the competition for the seat in the F1 car. But no, no I wouldn't like to do such a thing. I would be happy to do hillclimbs. *I have a crushed pelvis.
I find it interesting that through all sports, even among the elites. Someone can still be so ridiculously better as to be the GOAT amongst their 0.1%.
I think Max can communicate the car setup in a more concrete en detailed way. He has a lot of technical knowledge from the time with Jos building their own carts. It would be interested how his relation is with Adrian en the others engineers in respect to the car setup and improvements.
This reminds me of a driver from decades back - Ronnie Petersen - in the days when instrumentation was less sophisticated. He was very quick, until his fatal crash, but a horrible car development driver. After a couple of laps, he'd completely adapted to the car and couldn't say how it was handling.
It would be nice to see Alex back at RBR in 2025. He has matured a lot and is fast as well today. It will be hard for other drivers to get near Max just because Max is on an other level. Max would win in a MB or Ferrari as well, as he did in a bad RBR car with that Renault engine. There are some drivers once in a long while that can do something extra special. Max is one of them. Lasts 2 years he is close to flawless. And that is giving no confidence to other drivers in his team to catch up with.
Well max is different now from he was in 2019 and 2020 but you right Alex albon is improverd alot since then i think he can do maybe better than Perez just better but never know
Here again after 2024 Bahrain GP. Max Verstappen is definitely the NEXT F1 GOAT (GREATEST OF ALL TIME)! He in every race since 2022 to 2024 is like playing F1 2021 on "Very Easy" difficulty.
In reality Sainz should have beaten Max quite easily in 2015 as Sainz has way more experience than Max in single seaters, in the end that advantage only helped minimize the damage.

I think what separates Max from everyone else, is he elevates his team around him to such a degree that they will rallyh behind him whatever it takes. Max gives himself credit for his performance, but he always acknowledges that he's able to race the way he is because he can rely on the shoulders of brilliant engineers that love seeing him succeed. True teamwork. Many teams have still to figure out how to forge a core team that can conquer any challenge.
Max is so talented yet the youngest to join F1, which means he's the YOUNGEST driver with MOST EXPERIENCE. And a team that works so well with him. The only thing can take him out is probably a bad engine. Also, I think he's so determined, because he suffer so much for his F1 dreams. He's the only one who stay with his dad when the rest of the family left them. He knows what it costs to be at the top.
Not really a Max fan, but as F1 fan his I do admire his magnificent skills and total determination. He is one of the greatest ever. And, after all, F1 is a team sport. RBR does what RBR must do to win. Including sacrificing any possibility for the second driver to really shine. It is not pretty, maybe not even fair. But it is business. The only thing that matters when a team without any true racing pedigree tries to become legendary is a long streak of drivers’ championships.
Sure, but IF they (or any team) must choose, the drivers’ championship is far more important. Outside the dedicated fan base, nobody really care about the constructors’ championship. @@Redlingstein
@@00aPPa00That's exactly the reason why MB brought Bottas in as a second driver. They didn't want another Rosberg/Alonso type of driver next to Lewis causing all kinds of trouble. That's why it's going to be interesting to see how Lewis and Charles are going to get along. Charles is not a meek sheep like Bottas. He will put up a fight.
The other issue that all the drivers that have driven with Max also have to face with is the reality you have to face driving alongside him. There's already a clear trend that as he progresses in F1, the faster he gets. And all it takes for any driver to go into a downward spiral is for some major event or turning point in their career such as a crash or Max just flying past them. In Checo's case, it could be the time how he got passed in Miami and the whole thing was over in a moment. Then later on we'd learn that Max was upset after Baku 2023 and swore that he won't be beaten by Checo again. He then followed through with that for the rest of the season even in Singapore where he still finished ahead of Checo despite not winning the race. That kind of mentality to not want to loose to your teammate again, and then seeing that conviction actually become fact, is something that every would-be Red Bull driver would have already in their minds the moment they think of joining Max in that team. Once Max has a goal in mind, he basically throws everything he can to make sure he reaches and then flies miles past that goal, and there's little to no stopping him. It's the F1 driver mentality dialled up to 11.
Which is why i think Daniel can be the perfect wingman for Max. He's seen it all, including the lowest of lows, and would settle for podiums and the occasional win. He has probably accepted by now he won't be champion (in the drivers at least, can be in constructors) but will be happy to end his career at RB. He is probably the only one willing to be wingman for Max on the entire grid right now.
Great to see that you accept VISA this time around in the competition! I was quite sad last time that I couldn't enter because only MasterCard was allowed.
basically vs Ricciardo and Sainz he was undercooked...after he gained some experience he became the monster he is today...probably will go down as the GOAT.
Lets first wait and see what HAM will do in the coming 2 seasons. Both Mercedes and Ferrari will have been developing their cars to beat the RedBull. And HAM will be extremely motivated to beat MAX and to get his 8th title. But it will be a hard fight when VER is around in a RB.
Don't have kids yet Verstappen. I believe Vettel's fall in pace really started when he became a father. I really think that made a massive impact on his willingness to push. The change in regulations also happened around that time but Vettel was a monster in his early years too.
No, Vettel is special in developping the car with the team, he's a real teamplayer, towards a specific balance with a planted rear. So he increases the gap with his teammate towards the season, if they fail to get him that balance he's not the allround natural talent that drives around that. That's why he was beaten by Ricciardo and went to spells with Ferrari that Raikkonen matching him instead of the usual 0.3-0.5 behind. Vettel is a not so very great driver that performed absolutely great in about 7 seasons. That's why I am a fan.
Each person is different. You are probably correct Verstappen mindset is more like Schumacher then Vettel. The question is, when you sit in that seat, do you question your mortality? Some do, some don't, a child usually amplifies that thought. @@peterfighter
Just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate these technique breakdown videos. I’m a huge F1 fan and also love sim racing, so this type of stuff is the best of both worlds for me!
the actual difference between Max and the others, is his immaculate tire management, the matching setup and placement on the track to get the best out of the tires is what makes the most difference and over the racelenght makes him undefeatable for most others, the tire management is his actual talent.
I am really curious to see Daniel back on the Red Bull cause he adapted so quickly to the car on the tests. I think he is confortable with the kind of car red bull has. So, it would be interesting to see if he can keep up with Max.
It's all because out of the whole grid Max is one of the only two drivers who isn't afraid of dying on the track (the other being Alonso). Pair the speed of the car with the "if I die I die" mentality and you got a 28 second lead on lap 12💀 Im convinced that if Alonso went to red bull we would see one of the most dominant duos this sport has ever seen, everyone else would be fighting for 3rd place
What Alex basically said was ‘the designers and engineers build a car for the theoretical maximum fastest lap.. Ver is just a driver that can drive a car that is built that way regardless of how well it drives’
Wrong they made a car for max. What u don’t think engineers see driver. Telemetry data and design things to back their main racehorse Even Daniel Ricardo in McLaren said he doesn’t have confidence in the car of McLaren that why he struggled to keep up with Norris. All teams make a car for their main race horse, some minor adjustments can be made to help the second driver if the team is nice Some drivers like Fernando Alonso are so good at living on the edge that in any car they do good. But not everyone is Lewis or Alonso or max good
Not really, it's horses for courses. Max driving the fastest car last year was outqualified by few drivers, it is down to driver confidence and ability to push the limit of car. Give the driver a car that he is confident in and they will do a better job than Max.

Could you do a video on albon‘s driving style? How he is getting out so much out of the Williams, his tire management and his great defending against way quicker cars
To beat the best, you'd have to be better. Which is impossible if he's really the best. Which Verstappen is. The best that ever did it. It really is that simple.
Tbh Sainz is a bad comparison as it was Max's first year in F1, his best teammates were Ricciardo and Perez and yet still Danny is a bad comparison cause Max is a very different driver now then he was then
Albon yeah, but per rumor Gasly was dropped for more than just bad performance. Makes sense, considering how adamant RB always was that they'd never bring Gasly back up to RB, while simultaneously hounding after Alex these last few years
Alex yes, though they should have just kept him in TR longer. Gasly hell no, he thought he could tell Newey how to design a car, big mistake. It showed how Gasly had more ego than his skill warranted.
Both were rightfully dropped by Red Bull. Not even once were able to outqualified or outscore Verstappen. However, Albon should have stayed in Toro Rosso because he had very limited experience in F1 cars. And still, you have to wonder what was the reason behind that...
There is always somewhat of a difference between the #1 and #2 driver. But I find it hard to believe that not a single teammate can compete in supposedly equal equipment.
I think we will see Alex back at RB in 2025, and he will be much much better than his rookie year. He did great considering his experience and who he was up against.
As the video very well pointed out: Max's driving style requires him to have a level of connection with the car that is mentally draining and very risky and I really think this is one of the reasons he's constantly practicing on simulators.
Can’t really measure, atmosphere has a lot of impact. If the vibe is always Team Max, it will break you and wear you down. Then again when max joined Riccardo was already well established and settled after beating Vettel.
Which goes to show the real greats don't give a flying fuck about atmosphere, they just get on with it. Only the lesser drivers will let atmosphere get in their heads.
Comparing Albon's description of the car and driving styles with Newey's description of the car design I can only think of one reasonable solution. Max Verstappen is SO GOOD he is actually able to drive the "in theory" type of car to that theoretical edge and MAKE it reality. From every description of the Redbull car I can find, it seems like the idea of everything Newey makes is built around giving the drivers a fast car and leaving it up to them to figure out how to drive it. Even in Newey's book you can see his focus on the car's behavior or performance and not how drivable it is. Especially during the section about his IMSA days and commenting on wanting to physically SEE the car and how it behaves. My only working theory for how Max is so fast is that he can just pick up the car Newey gives him and DRIVE. He can adjust his style to the car to understand its tendencies and then make it work for him. For example in the current ground effect era the Redbull VISIBLY pitches, squats, and rolls less than other cars. The platform is fundamentally more stable. This will increase the performance of the car but make it harder to feel what it's doing as the driver. Max is mentally able to adapt to the lack of feeling and adjust ENTIRELY based on what the car does. This is a skill he can also use in sim racing, and that split practice time is likely why he can do both so well. It's one thing to drive a real car fast, but doing it on a sim is completely different. It's also worth noting that while I can't recall where I heard it, my understanding is that Perez depends on the movement of the car to drive fast, which would explain why he's frankly kinda slow in the Redbull. My only support for that though is watching the onboards, you can hear how slow he is to get the throttle down and I think that extra time is him getting skittish about how the car will react because he can't feel it, this would also explain why he was spinning so much in 2023. It's possible he was desperate for lap time and gunned the throttle too early because he couldn't feel the grip he actually had. All theories though ofc.
And also what Mercedes do To bottas you know Valtteri is james 😂simple answer Max and Red bull live rent free inside their i mean the British media and his haters forever 😂
Definitely something to be said that the stronger your teammate is, the less you’ll look like a God. One of the best drivers no doubt but I don’t read too much into beating Perez and Gasly in a car that they hate
and how about you read in the 3rd most racewins of all time allready at 26?? Or is that a fact you rather ignore?? hahaha the coping is strong with you!
Max with a young hungry teammate will not work. Checo thinks he’s hungry but he is incapable of running that RB at the level Max does which makes him the perfect sidekick for Max.
From the standpoint of screen time, having a high mid driver come up through the field every weekend to slot into P2 behind your Borg T1000 Velociraptor lead driver is not a bad way to go.
Hate it all you want. Verstappen is the GOAT. Equally as skilled at Senna or Shumi, maybe even more, but he is far more consistent and handles the pressure better than them all. We are lucky to see him drive.
The comparison Sainz / Verstappen as both being rookies doesn't paint the whole picture. They were totally different kind of rookies. Sainz was quite a bit older and had 5 years of formula racing behind him. Verstappen did 1 year F3 then straight into F1. That fact alone is incredible.
it wasnt even a full year and then to go from f3 to f1 and then actually becoming 4th twice that year while driving a mid/backmarker car is crazy.

That Albon interview was fantastic. When I watched it I couldn't stop thinking "wow, this guy is really introspective and intelligent and just seems like a really likeable nice guy"
To paraphrase him:
-They don't make the car for Max, they just make it as theoretically fast as they can make it, and expect the drivers to be professionals who can drive it in a way that will bring that pace out of it.

Best description I heard about whether or not car is designed for Max is that the car is designed to go fast and Max has been best at handling it.
Exactly. Every adjustment made to compensate for a driver's lack of skill tends to make a car understeer, which is more predictable but slower.
Max is just awesom at knowing the level of grip the car has. I think he might even be the best at that. Other drivers are storng in different categorys ( for example tactics).
That is in essence what Albon said.
As if "go fast" is one thing. It's not. That's why there's a problem. Didn't you watch all of it?
Nigel Mansell would agree.

_"During his first test I was really impressed how fast he adapted to the speed and brakes… normally drivers need 100-150km to get used to the enormous power which an F1 car has under accelerating and under braking. But from the first lap onwards he was familiar with everything."_
I've heard similar things from circuit managers and other insiders, they had never seen someone drive the early laps the way Max did, some having also witnessed other greats like Lewis. It's telling of another spec of talent.

Its just RB making the fastest car they can and Max can simply adapt much better then most drivers
Imagine if Shioriko Mifune joins Red Bull with Verstappen.
Still he mastered it and is beating seasoned simracers with them.
imho, understeering cars are "easier" to drive. When understeering you just go wide, when you oversteering - you end up facing the wrong way.
@@sFde46 but the understeer-y setup can be slower

Max is very adaptable and races different disciplines on the sim during the f1 downtime. Once in a generation talent

The only times teammates were close to Verstappen were when he was a teenager. Once he got to his 20's he blew away all the teammates.
Max's style seems like an adrenaline addict who has an incredible feel for a car
Reason Schumacher dominated them in 94 was because of electronic aids his teammates didn't have
@Nefus1988 if you listen to what they all complained about, the car being too much of a handful and as a result, they were unable to find the limit, you'll know that the theories about driver aids are just that, theories.
Schumacher had no elite teammates until being paired with Rosberg in 2010.

Great review thanks, we are all blessed to be living history and witness one of F1 greatest drivers.
Newey said he builds the fastest car possible and Max gets 110% out of it. If you look at his sim racing, he can win in a GT3 Ferrari, or a Mercedes. He's fast in anything because he just adapts to the car better than anyone.

To expand on what Albon said:
The car at the start of the year is not designed for Max.
Throughout the year the development of the car will be steered towards the preference of the drivers.
However, when one driver is significantly faster than the other, the team will pay more attention to the driver who's faster.
Since this has always been Max (at least since 2019), they will listen more to his wishes than his teammate's.
Like evry team deoes built around the N1 faster drive i realy wonder some people make some dumb excuses conspiracy says the car suit him more make it sond like his teamate is better than him and only Red bull sabotage their second driver and also make this narrative of him only wins is becouse have Bad teamates and you know how said that 🤣😭😢
It’s kind of funny that both Sainz and Albon are now possible 2025 teammates for Max again.

max is like a curse for the 2nd driver LOL
Bahrain, Monza, and Nico Rosberg curse are scared of Max
Albon should have won the hungaroring but Hamilton did his signature move to tap the better driver out
People forget that Max is the result of Jos Verstappen's selective breeding program to create the perfect driver.
The Mighty Max!
Been a fan since the beginning. The kid was so fast. Now? He's DOMINANT.

I find it interesting that through all sports, even among the elites. Someone can still be so ridiculously better as to be the GOAT amongst their 0.1%.
Max is an exceptional driver. The rest is also good but max is great and all round very strong.
Max hold the record of having the most records. Great and all round very strong is a total understatement.
@@FrancisFjordCupola agree 💯🔥
I think Max can communicate the car setup in a more concrete en detailed way. He has a lot of technical knowledge from the time with Jos building their own carts. It would be interested how his relation is with Adrian en the others engineers in respect to the car setup and improvements.
This reminds me of a driver from decades back - Ronnie Petersen - in the days when instrumentation was less sophisticated. He was very quick, until his fatal crash, but a horrible car development driver. After a couple of laps, he'd completely adapted to the car and couldn't say how it was handling.
From what I’ve seen, it is the most aggressively dangerous driver who wins - a big game of chicken cutting each other off at each corner.
Makes Saintz look really good too
Yet Ferrari dont want him anymore and bring Lewis in his Place if i was Horner bring him back to Red bull in 2025 after all he was In STR
In reality Sainz should have beaten Max quite easily in 2015 as Sainz has way more experience than Max in single seaters, in the end that advantage only helped minimize the damage.
@@MohamedLamkhizni Nah, with sr. coming along for the ride trying to paint the team badly every time it doesn't go jr.'s way, Horner and Marko don't want him. Beating Max simply isn't going to happen. Sainz would just be another Perez, slightly better driver but with the same ridiculous delusions of grandeur, thinking he can beat Max to the championship.

I mean the answer to how is regardless of how you feel about him he's one of the best to ever drive a Formula 1 car. I mean it really is that simple😂
1. His car
2. His team
3. He’s very good
4. His car which was designed to suit him
Lol
Max is so talented yet the youngest to join F1, which means he's the YOUNGEST driver with MOST EXPERIENCE.
And a team that works so well with him. The only thing can take him out is probably a bad engine.
Also, I think he's so determined, because he suffer so much for his F1 dreams. He's the only one who stay with his dad when the rest of the family left them.
He knows what it costs to be at the top.
Verstappen gets the max out of a car.
Wrong, RBR is in it for the Constructors championships
@Redlingstein not really considering the fact that they give mid drivers the 2nd seat to avoid any challenge to their #1 driver
@@Saiko-Johnny Exactly true. And Hamilton got 4 of his championships with Bottas as teammate (and in the most dominant car - based on field spread).
Thank you for this data packed video 👍🏽
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lmao but it was the same case for Gasly and Albon no?
Lets first wait and see what HAM will do in the coming 2 seasons. Both Mercedes and Ferrari will have been developing their cars to beat the RedBull. And HAM will be extremely motivated to beat MAX and to get his 8th title.
But it will be a hard fight when VER is around in a RB.
If Max was undercooked against Ricciardo the albon must be blue rare against Max 😂
@@NotAcvp3llaWhy are people acting like Gasly was some terrible guy?
Good presentation. Thanks for sharing.
Don't have kids yet Verstappen. I believe Vettel's fall in pace really started when he became a father. I really think that made a massive impact on his willingness to push. The change in regulations also happened around that time but Vettel was a monster in his early years too.
Well, he technically have one.... Kvyat's kid.... LMAO

Schumacher won 5 championships after he became a father, so this excuse is far-fetched.
Ill save you some time: Hes just too good.
the actual difference between Max and the others, is his immaculate tire management, the matching setup and placement on the track to get the best out of the tires is what makes the most difference and over the racelenght makes him undefeatable for most others, the tire management is his actual talent.
I am really curious to see Daniel back on the Red Bull cause he adapted so quickly to the car on the tests. I think he is confortable with the kind of car red bull has. So, it would be interesting to see if he can keep up with Max.
Lol
Testing is pointless, but he’d definitely do better than Perez, Gasly, Sainz and Albon.
It's all because out of the whole grid Max is one of the only two drivers who isn't afraid of dying on the track (the other being Alonso). Pair the speed of the car with the "if I die I die" mentality and you got a 28 second lead on lap 12💀
Im convinced that if Alonso went to red bull we would see one of the most dominant duos this sport has ever seen, everyone else would be fighting for 3rd place
What Alex basically said was ‘the designers and engineers build a car for the theoretical maximum fastest lap.. Ver is just a driver that can drive a car that is built that way regardless of how well it drives’
Wrong they made a car for max. What u don’t think engineers see driver. Telemetry data and design things to back their main racehorse
Even Daniel Ricardo in McLaren said he doesn’t have confidence in the car of McLaren that why he struggled to keep up with Norris.
All teams make a car for their main race horse, some minor adjustments can be made to help the second driver if the team is nice
Some drivers like Fernando Alonso are so good at living on the edge that in any car they do good.
But not everyone is Lewis or Alonso or max good
Not really, it's horses for courses. Max driving the fastest car last year was outqualified by few drivers, it is down to driver confidence and ability to push the limit of car. Give the driver a car that he is confident in and they will do a better job than Max.

Both Albon and Gasly deserved more time.
For what and to be the same story 🤣😭
Max is different to your average F1 driver, that is what makes him so good.
According to some fanboys of other Drivers, Red Bull should jeopardize the maximum speed potential of the car, so Max's Teammates don't get wrecked.

Pure talent. That's it. Chase closed. Thanks for the support for doing this 1 min research.

No one ever complained that Ferrari wasn’t doing enough to help Eddie Irvine catch Schumacher.
