  • In this LOOP Akademi lesson, Al Peake breaks down the legendary Snake Roll Cast.
Caution - This cast should only be performed with a downstream wind, to minimise the risk of snagging yourself!
    Gear used :
    Rod: 7X 9140 - www.looptackle.com/product/7x...
    Reel: Opti Megaloop - www.looptackle.com/product/op...
    Line: GDC Float - www.looptackle.com/product/gd...
Video filmed in 4K, so be sure to change it to that in the settings!

This is the best description and video of a Snake Roll cast I have seen. In particular the various angles used to show the line & rod travel.

Thank you so much! I've been really struggling with this one. So if using a shooting head should I still pull back in a horizontal line?

When using a shooting head you should pull the running line back in until you have between 1’ and 2’ of running line outside the tip of the rod. Do this before you begin the cast and begin with the rod tip at the water before starting the cast.

He’s casting lefty here. Does he cast on either side depending on the wind?

I think it also depends which bank you're on. The river here if flowing right to left. So casting is on downstream side. I hope that makes sense?
