    VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
On the 8th of June 2022, the Reserve Bank of India officially allowed users to link their credit cards to all UPI platforms. This means within some days if you if own a Rupay credit card and a mobile phone you could make your credit card transactions through your UPI app without using your credit card at all!! And as soon as this announcement happened, it became such a sensation that every single news channel and every single newspaper lauded the NPCI about how revolutionary this move is!!
and this move is so big that on one hand, it could redefine the entire credit market of India on the other side, it is a big threat to even Giant companies like VISA and Master card
    The question is?
Why is the UPI linking the Credit card system such a revolution for the people of India?
How will it change the lives of people like you me and the 1000s of small businesses all across the country?
and most importantly, why is it yet another lethal threat to Giant companies like Visa and Master card!

TH-cam is helping me from India and u from America to exchange each other's opinions and understand one another's perspective but when youtube tries to block certain comments or videos that do not fit their agenda without providing any satisfactory explanation, there TH-cam is controlling the narrative and preventing one point of view to be presented.. @@somnath1235 I actually agree with you, globalization has done some really good things. But one of the big issues of globalization is that it leaves poorer nations that need constant importing really vulnerable. The importing nation needs to agree to exporting nations terms and conditions of trading. Perhaps the exporting nation collapses, it would leave the importing nation in a sticky situation. But like what you said it has brought very good things such as communication such as right now which reminds me, the discoverer of wireless communication was Indian "Jagadish Chandra Bose" which was later developed by an Italian named Guglielmo Marconi and through countries opening them selves up to the world for the pass 100 years it has helped advance all forms of communication. Without globalization I would have never been able to hear about this youtube channel. It has its cons and most definitely has its pros.

Terrific. Beautiful explanation .. UPI itself is a game-changer. Now linking it to a Credit card is simply a blast .. A small MDR % of say 0.05% or even less will go a long way .. For a transaction of Rs 100, -- nobody will bother to pay an MDR of Rs 0.1 ( 10 Paise). This can be slowly increased to say 0. 5% in due course ( like what they did on Security transaction TAx STT ).. But this is a game changer -- thanks to NPCI == Major risk factor is govt change .. before that NPCI has to be totally Privatized like ICICI bank ( which was initially Govt owned )

This video leaves out a very critical aspect of Credit card business
The major chunk of revenues for Credit Cards is the revolver customers who pay interest on their credit card purchases. MDR and annual fee are small proportion of pie
Why did govt start Rupay card network when Visa, MasterCard were already there? Because with 3% MDR rate, the bottom 90% of Indians wont be served...at such high transaction costs. Yes merchants/businesses pay this 3% charge..but who are they ultimately going to charge this from? Lower MDR is win for Indian consumer
When Rupay can operate at lower MDR rates, why not the foreign card networks do it at a lower price? Especially when economies of scale keep on growing?

The banks' risk is very much compensated for by the massive interest on late payments for credit cards. I can completely agree on the switching fee for card network providers (but it's not gigantic sums of money; maybe when they first started - should be simple with all the internet infrastructure nowadays)

Paycheck 2 paycheck people mostly use UPI. Everyone knows wealth is distributed unevenly across. Intersting to see how much our salaried class wealth holds in the system when compared to others. The ones at the top of the chain don't use UPI. They know how much a eom payslip person has in the account than the ones who actually bring in the big cash ;)

Indian banks and RuPay could come up with some limits on credit card transactions which could be insured. Or the merchants should provide more incentives with debit card payments instead of credit card payments. One has to be rich to have a credit card and a vast majority of people using credit cards already have sufficient balance to use a debit card instead. Most use credit cards just for fun and to show off or use it while traveling abroad.

The amount spent on Credit card can also be linked to E-commerce offer, where in I can shop for thousands and pay in emi. Doing same on Debit card would be less preferred .
Also Credit cards gives more time to pay for a transaction, instead of paying today, i can pay 30 days later.
so that might be the reason why people would prefer spending more in credit rather than debit. (at least for me these are the reasons)

Credit cards give you a false sense of financial freedom. We fail to treat credit cards as loans and end up treating them as our own money. That's why we always end up spending more when using a credit card
