Gotta agree that self emptying is the feature that makes the robot vacuum worth getting.
It’s amazing to have your floors vacuumed everyday and not touch the robot for a month.

Performance opinion aside, Shark having the intelligence and foresight to hire him as a design consultant is friggin' genius in itself.. plus the price to performance ratio here is a total homerun. Definitely won't be buying another robot without an auto empty base and no go mapping.. 👍👌✌

As of late December, 2019, still no keep out zones. Takes forever to learn the floor plan and never does that really well. It appears to be lost a good portion of the time. Sent it back as generally ineffective at learning the floor. I agree with you that keep out zones are practically mandatory.

I'm going to have to call you out on something since you were involved with this vacuum... Love your channel so don't take this the wrong way please
On your CFM test, you show the Shark Non AE vacuum at 23cfm looking like the highest ever... However it appears you conveniently left off the Deebot 950, which if I'm not mistaken was 24 cfm according to your test and top of the food chain in suction power. Just makes it look like you were trying to show Shark at the top of this chart.... Just sayin...

Not only this, the review sounds biased, even thou he wants it not to be. In all honesty, this needs more transparency, like showing us the tests being performed in full with the numbers facing the camera.

I have this robot and after 1 week I'm done with it. The app is awful and the mapping is just as bad. I have a small threshold in my kitchen that my neato d4 and roomba have no problem with. The shark gets stuck every time. Last thing is 9 times out of 10 it cant find it's way home. It even states a very short distance limit in the manual.

@@hightech2lowtech The dock/bin looks atrocious for the Shark. Roomba got that part right. The S9s dock/bin looks great in the living room. Does the Sharks dock/bin use a bag to collect dirt and debris? If not, that's another foul. Just looks like a mess.

Bought one, gave it almost 2 months, 40 cleans, several of the worst tech support calls ever- and have now sent it back. Terrible waste of time- would seem like it was learning our home for the first 6-8 runs, then would have major issues, not able to find its base, running off our stairs, map would invert/ change direction. Never mapped our home successfully. Have now ordered a Neato D7. Did receive an email from shark today that there would be a November software update to fix some issues- too little too late. Its best feature is the 90 day moneyback guarantee- you will need it.

I have a normal Shark vacuum cleaner, and I love it. Their customer service is good. The first day I used my Shark vacuum, which was 4 years ago, I accidentally ran it over its own cable and it got chewed up by the agitator. I called Shark and they replaced the unit for me with no charge. I was so impressed!

Just got my shark today. I will be sending back my Roomba. The shark did a better job mapping the house and for the same price i paid for my roomba i get the self cleaning bin and mapping to where i can tell it go and clean specific areas. and the battery is way better. Ran about 1500 sqft on one charge. and still had about 30% left when i ran it on normal.

Navigation was alright it seems. I could have sworn I saw a higher CFM. However, I do mostly care about the auto empty. Even if it is worse than the other vacs, as long as it has autoempty at a cheaper price with smart navigation, it's tempting

I don't know if he was given a pre-production model or something similar, but my experience has been different. I purchased two of these back in October 2019. One directly from shark and the other from kohls.
    Pros:
-Where it goes, it cleans pretty well
    -Auto-empty base works mostly
-Kohl's made the return process super easy.
    Cons:
-Changing the cleaning power level inside the app doesn't always work
-It takes many runs to create a map, only to return an incorrect map.
-When you try to create rooms, the part where you create a room and the part where you name the room are not consecutive. I ended up naming my living room my kitchen because I couldn't figure out which room I was naming when it came to that step.
-After creating and naming rooms, selecting them in the app to clean only that room, the vacuum continues to clean the whole house anyways.
-The vacuum completely misses rooms and thinks it is done. It also gets lost or stuck underneath dining room tables. Wasting precious battery life.
-The vacuum upstairs would stop and return a "cliff sensor dirty" error when it hit the edge of the steps, instead of just turning around and moving on.
-Shark is trying to update the app and firmware on the unit, but their updates do not seem to be solving the problems.
-I discovered there is an area inside the auto-empy base with mini "vortex" cones that is very difficult to clean out.
-By default, the vacuum returns to the base every 30 minutes to empty out. Sometimes it will not completely empty, then have a clump of hair sticking out of the back-flap on the vacuum where it emptys out.
Ultimately, I cannot wait any longer for shark to update their apps and firmware to make a usable product. When I contacted shark customer service, they refused to accept the return since I am a couple weeks past the 90 day return window. Even though I waited patiently for them to update their firmware and app hoping that they could do better.
Don't expect "no-go lines of virtual barriers" inside the mapping software any time soon.
I hope this convinces at least one person not to buy their product yet. Maybe in a few years when they have worked out all the kinks.

Saw this specific vacuum on sale for Black Friday and mentioned it to my parents. Turns out they got it for us for Christmas for the new house. I think we have the second gen model, the 1101 series. This little thing works wonders. Picked up so much dirt and debris on the first go that it clogged the dust bin, so after cleaning it out and scheduling more frequent cleanings he’s been a trooper. Cleans the whole house in two 1 hour sessions with recharge and resume. The app is kind of a mess but the robot still works really well. Thanks for turning me on to this vacuum, Chris! Love the channel

Real review.... I have never bought any of the robot vacuums before. So when I seen this with less maintenance I went to the actual website. You get a 90 day money back gaurentee if you dont like it. So definitely sold me on it. It works great on flat floors. Carpet not so much the first try. It does great on the thinnest carpet. It gets stuck on any thicker carpet. And I thought my sons carpet was pretty thin. But it has to clean it several times to actually clean the grass pieces and dirt particles from his shoes. Over all I love it. I dont have to do anything with it except dump the bin every few days when it tells me to. And that's perfectly fine with me. We live out in the country and everytime someone walks in they track something in on my floors. I was sweeping 2 times or more a day. So saves me alot of work.

A few Robot vacuum reviewers mention the Shark IQ currently as of Nov 2019 have several issues and problems. Unit those issues are fixed they recommend not to buy and even returned their Sharks. Couple of those problems include 1) SW mapping requires 30+ runs and even then the mapping is not accurate. 2) There is no bin full sensor on the Shark so it does not know when to go to the emptying base. Shouldn't be too much of an issue for smaller homes but those with pets or kids the bin is small and gets full fast leaving debris on floor or it gets an error. 3) Some customers like having no bags while other customers feel a bag is much cleaner and easier. When emptying my current RVC bin I do need to go outside to empty the bin because I don't want to breath in all the fine dust particles that float around when emptying the bin. I'd imagine there will be a lot of fine dust and debris floating around even when you carefully and slowly try to empty the shark IQ empty base.

so, just bought this a week ago, mostly on your recommendation...and I have to say, it's just awful! It's run over 15 hours at this point and has yet to map my house and is only at 42% mapped (roughly 900sqft floor plan). Constantly goes over the same areas repeatedly, sometimes cleaning one small section for 30 minutes or even longer. The robot will go back to the dock to recharge (because it can't clean my small floorpan in one charge) then head right back to the same spot afterwards. Had one time where the vacuum searched for the dock for 20 minutes before I got fed up and just took it back myself. Pretty much the largest percentage of reviews online mirror all of this...how did you have one that did everything so perfectly?

I disagree with your conclusion of this review, as someone with a Neato D5, no go lines are the most valuable feature of a robotic vacuum above a self emptying bin and the fact that at the time of this video it doesn't have them is a deal breaker. My train of thought is a robotic vacuum is no good if it can't finish cleaning your house due to getting stuck meaning who cares if it can vacuum 30 times without needing emptying if it can't get passed the first time. Plus on top of that we don't even know how well the no-go lines on the Shark will be since Roomba seems to be a step behind the lidar offerings. If Shark had advertised the feature as coming in q4 2019 or q1 2020 or something like that I might give it a pass but there isn't any information on shark's product page on their website or amazon about it. Also you didn't really discuss the app provided you might have in another video that i didn't see but I watch most of your robotic vacuum videos even though I'm not in the market lol.
Side note: I think that it's awesome feat that Shark was willing to work with you and I appreciate you being open about that fact. I hope that more manufacturers decide to work with you as that is only going to make their products better which is better for consumers. If you start working with more manufactures my only suggestion is you need to be more open with what determines what is a good from a quantifiable standpoint such as category ratings in certain fields that you determine make a great vacuum so that way you can make sure that you cover every vacuum review in the same way. Your testing procedures I would argue are very consistent and part of why without a doubt in my mind I'd call you the best vacuum reviewer but your reviews need some added consistency in the sense of order and what they cover. If I were doing the ratings I'd give 40% cleaning, 40% navigation/completion reliability, 5% app quality and features, 15% build quality and hardware features. I've seen your reviews get better over the years and can't wait to see where you will be in the future! :)

Agreed. I've been shopping for one to replace my old Neato and one of my must haves is the no go line. I'm sick and tired of having to use and buy more of those strip boundaries. The auto empty I considered a nice to have, but mostly because before this vacuum the ones with auto empty made me completely reconsider my budget.
I called Shark tech support today to ask if they knew anything about adding in a no go zone, and after painfully having to explain several times what that meant (guy kept thinking I was talking about naming rooms) he finally hung up on me.
I would buy this vacuum today if it already had a no go zone feature, or if there was a guarantee that feature would be out by the end of 2019. I'd pay an extra $100 for the no go zone if I had to.

I agree. VW doesn't test for how higher end robovacs are usually used. Navigation and furniture damage are important issues in larger, more complex and expensive households. A higher end robovac needs to consistently navigate a large complex floorplan without bumping narrow chair legs and corners. I'm sure that the IQ is among the worst performers in the real world.

I bought this Shark IQ at Kohls for $329.61 when I used coupons and signed up for their credit. (You get a coupon for 30% off anything when you get a credit account. Then I used 2 more coupons right off their site.) I have had many Roombas and this shark runs along with my Roomba 980. It does a decent job but I would say the Roomba's performance is a little better. The Shark seems to get confused a little more on dark surfaces and doesn't suck up debris as well as the 980. Also, I don't really like how the Shard backs up to dump the bin. It gets confused doing that and sometimes takes quite a while to actually dump after it has moved around a few times. The Roomba also moves in straighter lines and the Shark kind of studders back and forth as it is moving like it has Parkinson's disease. The Shark is worth what I paid. I would have got the S9+ as it is probably the best out there but iRobot is smoking Crack if they think that thing is worth $1400.

I feel like battery life is very important. I don’t use my vacuum (roborock s5) when I’m out of the house because I have an older dog and I don’t want to stress her. My house (recently sold it) was having 79 m2 to clean (taken out all the rooms and spaces I blocked on the app, another important feature) and my vacuum cleaner more or less 1 m2 per minute. This one would have to charge in between which would prolong cleaning because it would devise it into two sessions. I love the self cleaning feature but then again, after a few times I did not have to empty the roborock every time it cleaned. I will see how it works in the apartment I’m renting because the carpet here has an annoyingly long fibers.

I got this robot for Christmas this year. It’s been running for about two weeks, every day. Things I love about, it the carpet lines it leaves you get with a freshly cleaned room, it empties itself, it’s not very loud, it texts me when it needs help. Things I don’t like, it gets itself into trouble - it four wheels itself over shoes and moves toys and laundry baskets, and after two weeks of use it’s starting to miss big fur balls. I picked up a piece of fur my dog left and put it right in front of the vacuum and it just combed it into the carpet. Also, the little side brushes are probably going to need to be replaced soon because they are starting to stay bent backward. It’s best to run it everyday so the workload isn’t as bad and I probably need two for the size of my rooms. Still, I love that it empties itself and I have an extra hand helping me stay ahead of the dust and dog hair.

I just purchased one of these vacuums during a black Friday deal after owning a roborock e25 for almost a year. My initial impression was not good, it's built cheaply, the integrated voice is tinny and the app barely works. The vacuum is way louder than the roborock, does not sound or move as refined, and doesn't seem to clean as well either. Battery life is worse and recharging time takes 3x longer than the roborock. I am on the fence if I should return it as the *only* redeeming feature is the auto empty base. This review does not do this robot justice to the garbage that it is

    • @secretagentbob0758
      @secretagentbob0758 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Right there with you! I bought one on black friday, $340 deal! Wanted an auto empty for a good price for awhile now. This ain't it. The mapping takes ages, could literally take up to a month with daily cleaning. It can't clean my floor in one pass so it'll clean for about an hour, recharge for 4+ hours and then finish. Overall it's taking about 6 hours to clean my floor which means i'll never get to use it on both floors in the same day. My 2.5 year old xiaomi vaccum does it all in one pass in just over an hour. If you want a good robot at a good price, go buy a roborock S4/5/6. This thing is junk. I'm returning this and waiting for a roborock self empty model.

    • @georgeshu321

I agree. I have a roborock s5 that has been rock solid. Learned my home in 1 run and is quiet and efficient. This shark vacuum has been running for 2 months and still has not finalized the map of my home. The only redeeming quality is the self empty. Once roborock comes out with a self empty model, the shark will banished to the basement to clean up spiders.

The major downside of this model that I've read about is the slow or failure to create the map. I've heard of 30+ runs to get the map. Has this been fixed with any firmware updates? Also something about the "auto empty" feature not having a sensor to know when to auto empty. Is that necessary, and when does it auto empty? Every full run? Every re-run?

The mapping system and virtual wall function doesn’t work well at all. The vacuum doesn’t seem to refine the map after the first map is generated. And the virtual barriers doesn’t stop the vacuum from cleaning the no-go areas.
The vacuum doesn’t avoid obstacles well either, it constantly bumping onto the legs of tables and chairs and doesn’t really extend the total cleaning time to make out the delays with obstacles.

I'm not sure where some of these negative comments are coming from. We've been using the Shark IQ since Christmas and it works just he says in this video. My wife is a clean freak, literally daily. She's picked a broom one time since, and that was because of the mess in the floor after taking the trees down. We've got 4 dogs in the house, so if you read someone here say it won't pick up the hair, they'd be wrong. Zero hair in the roller either. I can't really comment on carpeted floors, but it does fine on the few rugs we have. If this guy didn't clean well, it would have been boxed up and taken back. I have two negatives, first it likes to climb way too much. I had to put boundary strips down after a couple of battles with the tree stands. I'm sure there are inclinometers built in that would prevent this with a firmware upgrade. Second, the app needs to be polished up a bit. It's a little buggy, but it works. Thanks for the review, I didn't see any bias, it works like you said.

I think you need to add ability to clean at night. I like to schedule night shifts however Shark is not able to do so because of the camera system. It also bumps into the objects unlike Roborock S5 or E35 based on your reviews. I have R100 and it’s doing a pretty great job with picking up stuff. Do you know if Roborock e35 does not depend on the light? Can it clean at night?

If I did whole house, never found home base. I like the auto empty, but the screen still was not clean in the dust bin. Returned it, purchased a Neato D7, no problems so far. Like the it always finds the base!

I can’t figure out why everyone hates on the shark IQ vacuum? Maybe you can shed some light on this. I originally bought the S9 plus from iRobot and had to exchange it for another one because it kept throwing me errors been full stuck on a pretty much flat matte getting clogged while emptying the bin. The second one I got worked just long enough for the return. To run out and then started exhibiting the exact same issues as the first one and of course I robot just argues with you nonstop and won’t do anything to help so to say the least I don’t think I will be returning to iRobot anytime soon unless they refund me my money or fix their faulty product I think it’s more of a design issue and software issue than anything. I think the shark IQ although not as advanced and high and feeling is a much better value by about 1000%

I wanted to ask a question. I just ordered one of these because of all the good reviews but since then I have been scrolling thru the other reviews and it paints a picture of mapping issues and app crashes are these something to be concerned about or with some tinkering and patience will this be a good vacuum?

Be careful. Now a day people know their stuff and will hit hard if you conveniently forgot some info....
That being said I understand the need for sponsor. It is just you need to stay very credible. This is the key of your business brand as a tester

The Shark IQ doesn't do multiple floor mapping, and the Roomba i7+ price was significantly lowered, so I still would go Roomba which does do multi-floors.

Costco has one of these but with a different model number and base style. Any insight?
