Not that it will help any of you, but just for the record: German credit cards work at gas stations in the USA because German Zip codes are also 5-digit. The machines evidently don’t have to recognize the code as being a valid US Zip, just as long as it has 5 digits.

I think the sales tax in California has to do if it's fresh food or not, I don't remember specifically. Oregon on the other hand has no sales tax
