I almost don't want to to post this, because it might cause someone to NOT buy tools, which is always fun. On my Courage 20 I did not need to do anything with the exhaust pipe. If you aren't looking for an excuse to buy a set ot torx drivers, you may want to do some recon on your tractor first.
I now own a pristine set of drivers that I didn't need... for this project. I regret nothing.

Nice video Steve, I did the same repair last week on a Troy-Bilt with the same muffler configuration on a Kohler Courage 19h. 👍👊
I see it on a lot of these Courage engines. This is probably the 3rd or 4th one I’ve had to do this year. It must be certain years that utilize the extra plate for the exhaust. The last few I’ve done did not have the muffler mounted to the valve cover. Either way, thanks for stopping by! 😁👍
