I'm originally from the congo 🇨🇩, if you know any Congolese people over there, let them know a sister is coming lol struggle is real.
Make sure you have an adequate income to afford the high property taxes here. You will not find a family doctor here and walk-in-clinics are few and far between, but not as bad as Fredericton plus the healthcare system is broken compared to where you are. They don't even have labs all over the neighbourhoods like LifeLabs.
Very good points and you are sensible about other people not having a roof over their heads. Our country can do more for food and resource, but the crown sits on 95% on our land while we just rent and "own some home" we actually do not own.
I live in Moncton as well, housing has gone out of control for pricing, 100% truth! And your comments about education, girl, my husband has tons of education and can't find a job here! All good points, it is very good for people who are considering moving anywhere to realize that they aren't getting "away" from issues, anywhere you go you'll find issues. But a good thing for everyone to remember is that the sky high pricing and cost of living is going up everywhere.. not just NB. it isn't just rich people moving to NB and buying your dream property. Most of those who are moving and buying up your dream place in your province are people just like you who are experiencing the exact same thing in their own province.. As long as people start realizing that most of those who are moving and buying in cheaper areas to live aren't all "The Rich" ruining other peoples dreams. People who aren't in a good or secure place are being forced to change and many are seeking at least some security in these strange times. Myself included. If I lose my job for whatever reason.. I cannot afford Southern Ontario anymore. I've grown up here and pre covid I could afford my mortgage and was doing pretty decent, but since covid.. things are very difficult with next to no security. But if I sell my ghastly-inflated-overpriced-property and move out of Ontario there is hope for me to do something.. anything. I'm nowhere near rich, or wealthy, or even "ahead of the game", but my with my measly savings I cannot buy 1 square foot of raw locked land in Southern Ontario, but the same amount will buy a nice forested property in NB with a house, no mortgage, no debt.. and a pile of money in the bank to help me find a footing in a new place. *shrug*
But some homes are still extremely cheap, one across my street sold for 99k with a double serviced lot and a 7.5 room post WW2 with full concrete foundation, a new central heatpump and 2 out buildings.
About things getting expensive I think it's a general, over here in nigeria, each month I go grocery shopping, the price of something would have increased
Hello! My opinion if you guys just started to find a job opportunities you should explore to Ontario. You will say there are crazy expensive. About the job Cause here we know that it’s a small city. I migrate from Mississauga ON for 10yrs and their is crazy house market. We just move here recently and buy a house for family living. We got a house here around 4000 but thr is property almost 1M in Ontario Moncton is the best quality of life for family living than ON,Vancouver &Calgary. Reg groceries while Canada/whole world are getting expensive now a days. Simple example from Ontario all supplier there and here are the same like Walmart, sobeys, Costco They are the same prices.
I hate to say this, but I think the reason housing and renting becomes expensive, price gone up is because people from Ontario, BC all over Canada move to New Brunswick and the east, because the housing and renting there has become unaffordable nowadays. It sucks the price has gone up.
Just not that, NB has the worst tenants' right in the country. Also no lack of landlords of newer complexes profiling folk from elsewhere thinking they are all loaded so they milk them. I know some tenants that are paying 5 to 10 percent more than NBers in the same complex that became tenants around the same time. As for houses, realtors are profiling too. It's just not folk from outside driving the prices up of homes, it locals that are panicking and are trying to downsize or upgrade. If someone offered you 100 percent more than what you paid for your house two years ago would you sell?
@@rps1689 what is “milking” them mean? In my opinion I would sell it to them if I sell the house and someone pay me 100% more than what I bought 2 years ago, that’s double
@@MultilingualKdog Milking means exploiting. It does sound tempting, but since NB is one of the cheapest places to buy a house, the money would limit your options if you wanted to move elsewhere especially a nice place and are trying to outright buy a house with that money; you most likely will have to downsize or buy something equivalent to it. Now if you are using that money for a downpayment, that will set you up in much nicer home if you don't mind having a small mortgage.
Yes true with the job, the transition is very hard here, as I thought I can get job easily after gaining years of work experiences plus education here and in my country, even the healthcare service, 1st time to experience waiting in emergency room for 10hrs, and I'm so weak, vomiting all day and night, doctor just gave me medicine for my dizziness and went home, she said that I'm fine. All are expensive
I'm from Moncton N.B but living in Toronto right now but I'm moving back next year because the Maritimes are beautiful and all my family is still there.
Thank for your sharing. I am living in Moncton right now, totally agree with you about struggle in accommodation... Last month, when I was 1st trimester of pregnancy and the current of contract will end in last of May, it's really difficulf for us to find suitable rental property, almost not allowed children.... But now, I had miscarriage, easier for us to find accomondation, but basic salary and increasing cost of groceries that still makes trouble. Yahh... Owning house at this time is intelligent choice, much more cheaper priece than big cities. Besides, my husband is an international student and we dont have family doctor, so he could not do any medical check though going to all walking clinic here, they said because of covid.... Everything has pros and cons. Anyways, Moncton brings more safe life for resident throughout pandemic.
great Information.. ma'am i am intending to enrol in NBCC but have not much information about City of Moncton. Would consider this city is suitable for international students in perspective of part time jobs and studies? Request for reply. Thanks in Advance
Whats the honest truth on NBs healthcare? If i moved there would i ever get a family doctor? If i had a major illness like cancer etc is it really years to get a hematologists and scans done etc?
Hi B, you may not get family doctor right away, it took me about 2 years to have one. However I had a surgery without a family doctor, my husband sees a specialist without a family doctor, this means that you will still get the medical help you need without a family doctor. I hope this helps
It won't take you years to see a hematologist and scans, but it could be months or less depending on the urgency. NB's healthcare system is average to just below average by Canadian standards. If you need access to primary healthcare often, there are better places elsewhere in the country, but if you have to stay and live in NB, Moncton or Saint John would be the best place to live for access to walk-in-clinics as an alternative to a family doctor.
Well we moved here 4 years ago to get out of Ontario, and now It's feeling like I'm back in Ontario 🤔😢..... I'm originally from NFLD......I don't like how busy it's getting😥I watched same happen in Ontario.
I just got scared from Canada honestly! I am from Pakistan, and am going to apply for PR along with my 4 months pregnant wife. And basic plan was moving for a better life! But listening to this, I am fearful of my wife health! what we are going to do if she is suppose to need gynecologist support for her delivery! I have lived in UK for 4 years back in 2006-2010 but UK had never such issues back then. Canada haunts me now!
Be very careful about where you move to. Housing will bankrupt you alone. You might not be able to afford to leave here to go back should you learn everything the "hard way."
I live in Moncton, there are not so many jobs options here, call centres and care homes are the. in- thing for most immigrants. I still don't have a family DR since 2019 and YES racism exist here which in my opinion no one is talking about. I have had my share. Thanks for the video.
Nah not racist, everyones the same there's no winners. But individuals can be morons. Doesn't matter what color. Everyone's got foolish people. Might be how you're looking perceiving it.
Uggh. I am sorry to hear this. There is racism everywhere :( and here too in Moncton. I don't know what is wrong with people. We are all people! There is no such thing as an immigrant - we are all immigrants! Canada was colonozied by France and Britain - France and Britain were colonized by Rome (and England was also colonized by the Saxons - they were Germans) So sorry. :(
Hi Yentil. You shouldn't be worried. With all the struggles we are still here and thriving. This is just to show you the reality here, however that shouldn't stop you from achieving your dream.
I am an international student and my sister recently moved from Vancouver to Moncton and it’s been nearly 9month in Moncton. Second year of her study permit has begun and she wants to apply for permanent residency pathway program. She can’t find an employer who could help her apply her PR file. Could you please please please tell about any designated employer she did her diploma in Biology stream. I am so much worried about my sister I too moved to Moncton a few weeks ago. Please advise something after all you make vlogs on Moncton. It would be great if you could help us in any way.
She worked in Walmart for 3years but Walmart isn’t giving the experience letter they just provide employment letter. So she is in search of another job. Please Mam! Offer some help
Hi Nav. Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately I don't have any information about this. Your sister should not give up hope. There are lots of changes with immigration rules and I believe something may come up that will favour her. Recently some people who studied here in canada were given permanent residence request. She may want to search that as well. All the best
I feel the same in my country as I am doing a work no degree people can easily get but... My goal now, here or elsewhere, is having a well paid job as making a "career" is not that obvious because of the realities we are facing. So I don't care anymore about the "kind" of job: first to me, is the pay, secondly, how I would enjoy it.
New Brunswick needs to follow NS and introduce rent control, the cost for rentals has gone out of control, but the provincial government does not seem to care.
I am new to Moncton... one thing that i noticed is regarding cannabis. Most rentals(99.9%) have a NO smoking , cigarettes / cannabis / cigars....BUT it is also illegal to smoke cannabis in public. So if you smoke cannabis this you should know.
NB has always been a backward place and it will continue. In BC you can smoke cannabis anywhere in public where tobacco smoking is permitted. In NB you can still get away with smoking at bus stops. Many rentals ban smoking, but not all enforce it especially in high-end rentals; more likely to get evicted for complaining of smoking neighbours than the smokers that smoke in their units covertly. Another thing is there is not security to tenure in NB for renters; easiest province to evict a tenant and they don't even have to give you an excuse for not renewing your lease.
Hello how are you. My husband and I just moved to Moncton on Saturday. He would be studying and I would be working. I just wanted to ask if you had any information as in how we should go about this process of migrating and settling in this area. Were currently quarantining so were on pause due to this. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Welcome to moncton. The first step is to get an accommodation and a telephone line. Your husband may need to contact his school if there is anything he'll need to do before he starts his classes. For you, you can contact MAGMA, it's an organization that help with newcomer services. They'll help you with your resume and any information that will help you in settling in. Their contact is on Google.

Hi Vanie, NB is family oriented for sure. And truthfully landlords love kids here. Sadly demand is way higher than supply, looking at the massive influx of immigrants and people from other provinces in the last couple of years. That being said, you will definitely get what you want, at least I did, as well as other people, it will just require a little patience and perseverance. Hope this helps 😊
Thank you for your video Olu. Regarding jobs and health would you think Nova Scotia is better of? What about discrimination? I saw a concerning report on cbc about discrimination in Fredericton which surprised me
Hi Andrew. Not sure about Nova Scotia, I've only gone there for visiting. But it's a big city and also experiencing economic and population growth as well. Lots of people are moving to the maritimes. For racism, personally I haven't experienced it. My husband had at the mall one time from a customer, however the attendant took ownership and apologized. I find that people are getting more enlightened and more open to people of color these days, but that does not rule out other people's experience of racial profiling. Hope this helps 😊
Depends on so many factors, biggest being your work and the flexibility you have around your work. Outside of Moncton may be cheaper, calmer and probably bigger space, but you'll have to consider other factors. Personally I'll consider school proximity for my younger kids. If my kids were to be in the university, I'll want to escape to a cottage, lol 😆
Moncton has a few communities from 30 minutes out such as Shediac, Cap-Pele, Sackville, Notre-Dame, Cocagne, Salisbury, Hillsborough; these areas you'll find more rural but with properties with more acres, more space from neighbouring homes and typically more sq footage for cheaper. However due to the recent boom these areas are also gradually increasing in price more proportional to moncton.
You are correct that we are not used to having many visable minorities here in Moncton. In my opinion, the thing we need to work on is seeing beyond skin and seeing the person inside. It is my feelings that fear is the real threat and that emotion must be reduced. Most of the homeless want to live without rules or controls. If we are to ever house them a full rethink of housing rules would need to occur. Your recording is echoy which makes it hard to listen to, your English is clear. You may want at some point obtain a better microphone. Thanks.
I am considering moving to NB within the next 3 months or thereabout. My son and his family will be there and I'll be 4 minutes away from them. My biggest concern is living alone in a new place. Should I be concerned?
Hi there. From my opinion, I don't see anything concerning about living alone, other than loneliness especially during winter. But if you typically love winter activities then you'll be good. People here are friendly as well. Hope this helps 😊
Hello Olu, thank you for this informative video. I am planning to move to NB and as a musician I am hoping to connect with other musicians who share my interests. Actually I play Fela Kuti style afrobeat as a drumset player at a professional level. In my research about music in NB I have not seen much of this kind of thing. Perhaps you are in a position to know if there are people in your community who play or are interested in this kind of music. Thank you. Dan
Hello. Thanks for reaching out. There is a growing number of Nigerians in New Brunswick. I'm sire they'll be open to this concept. We have a Nigerian MC and she does alot of Nigerian parties, her name is Emcee.teewhy on Instagram. You can follow her and reach out to her for advice.
While doing my research I found it so strange that so many apts don’t accept kids. I started thinking that they don’t like kids there in Moncton 🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
They actually love kids here. But the rate at which the province grew in thw last few years, nobody would have imagine it. And truthfully some buildings were not built to be child friendly. There are lots of apartment that take kids, its just that the demand right now is way higher than supply
Hello from Manitoba, I have a couple questions about health insurance and the basics of life in Moncton. Kindly let me know how to get in touch if you'd be willing. Thank you
Hi.. I have watched a couple of your videos and it’s informative .. how can I come over to New Brunswick as a caregiver or Nanny . How do I get an employer before coming . Thank you
Keep in mind Moncton and the province it is in is one of the least sought after places to live in Canada due to a lot of things including some lack of benefits.
Good question Koffi. Not everything is bad here. With everything going on in the world, some people just want a safe environment, make enough money to live by and have peace of mind. This I find to be most people's priority this days
It's depending on your preference Leonis. The government university in moncton is French university while the university in Saint John is English University, though there is are English Colleges in Moncton. I also feel there are more entry level roles/part time roles for students here in Moncton
Good day ma'am, please how possible is it to open a Nigerian food stuff/grocery shop in Canada? My husband and I are planning to relocate soon but we also have this kind of business in our mind. Thanks
Hi Ese, it's is possible as we have African food store here, we have about 3 or 4 here in Moncton. That means it is very possible to start the business. Because that is not my field, I don't have information on how to go about it. I'll say Google may be helpful to know how to register a business in New Brunswick
Hi Zahid, there is a large community of international students here, this shows its somewhat easy for the students here. There are part time jobs that students can do, mostly in call centers, restaurants and retail stores
Thank you for subscribing Jaime. It's not neccessary to speak French, though you may have more opportunities if you speak French. I don't speak French myself and I'm living in Moncton
Depending on your education, French may be a requirement. Examples nurses need French, without that they will likely miss promotions. Most other fields do not need much or any French. Most private employers operate in English!
Thank you for the info. My family will be moving to Moncton next year. The healthcare support is my great concern since I have a 2 year-old baby. May I know is it too hard to get a family doctor in Moncton? So if my daughter has some health problems ( like high fever, red eyes, etc.) how can I get a doctor for her?😭
Hi Queenie, there are walk-in clinics here. You will definitely have health care for yourself and your family. You may not have a family doctor right away but you can always go to any walk-in clinics or the emergency at the hospital.
I would not move to NB at all if your concern is having a family doctor for your child. You will probably never get a family doctor here in NB, we have folk that are still waiting for one for over ten years and they are willing to travel. For minor non urgent health issues, you can go to a walk-clinic, but they are few and far between and not up to par like we see in some other provinces.
@@rps1689 Thank you for being an honest person when replying to that comment. Most people have a bleeding heart for our healthcare system and its completely broken.
@@bl4nk701 Indeed, a bleeding heart won't fix it. It needs to be addressed politically and folk need to be educated on the improvements and goals some other provinces have set. NB is just too stubborn in regards to the status quo. No need to get rid of UHC, but we must look at what other provinces and nations with UHC have done be a hybrid system or not.
Good luck finding a family doctor here. Walk in clinics are always booked. If you don’t feel well you’ll probably be asking a pharmacist what over the counter drug they recommend. You will be on a list for years waiting for a doctor here
Buyers Market - an economic situation in which goods or shares are plentiful and buyers can keep prices down. I don't think this is what you meant when you repeatedly used that expression.
Moncton can be an expensive place and a struggle for newcomers even other Canadians. I met a man in Moncton that regrets moving from the Okanagan Valley in pursuit of a cheaper cost of living only to find out it is more expensive for him to live in Moncton than it was in the Okanagan, and he has a house paid for in Moncton. He has a good pension income and he still gets dinged more than he did when he split it with his wife in BC at tax time. Also hey pays over double the property tax he paid and much more in utilities and fees unheard of in BC. He should have done more research and should not have fallen for the romanticisation of the Maritimes and its low cost houses.
@@SuperJesusislord777 I'm thinking of the Okanagan Valley. I'm in NB now just until I get my second vaccination or when COVID is "over".. As tempting as it is to buy a house here, the cons and more than the pros so far. I was surprised they do not have generous home owners grant there for seniors.
All your struggles are the same across the country. Inflation, housing, family doctors. As for the opportunity/over education, pick a bigger city for more opportunity. You don’t move to a city with less than 100k population and expect top tier employment opportunities. Homelessness also everywhere. I lived in Winnipeg , Victoria Bc and have travelled many times to Calgary, Edmonton. These issues are everywhere. You didn’t talk about your tax rates in the maritimes. That’s one of the biggest factors that make people avoid moving there. Also it’s a sellers market not a buyers.
Hate to break it to you but the housing issue is across canada doesnt matter where in Canada you go there just too many ppl coming into canada and which makes it harder for canadian to even find a job or a place The government never. Really put this action to the test to see if canada was even ready for this change government needs to set up and get more place build since they went over their heads it not the people who come to canada fault and it needs to change we dont want to have the street pack with homeless so get places for these people and lets end. Homelessness in canada
New Brunswick people can’t afford to live here because out of province buyers are over paying for housing. 110 thousand over asking and they never looked at the house. It was sold to online.
The out of province buyers are creating the same problem they were leaving from. There wasn't really any need to offer so much, as they panic and think they are getting a good deal. Also it doesn;t help when the pretty much unregulated agents use the tactic of pricing well below comparables. It lures buyers that don't realise the home is out of their budget and tries to get them to max out. I've seen this and they try to discourage you to put in an offer close to listing price only to find out later the house got listing price or less. Out of province buyers beware.
I really like your videos Kindly tell about Crandall University for Masters of Management program. Is it good for job prospects. What about part time jobs scenario
Hi Sharma, thanks for stopping by. Personally I didn't study at Crandall so I don't have full insight about the school. I can ask around and provide you with any details I find. There are lots of part time roles available for students, mostly in retail and contact centers

*shrug*
Sellers getting more than the asking price is a sellers market.
Yeah true.
Thanks for the correction Craig 😊
But some homes are still extremely cheap, one across my street sold for 99k with a double serviced lot and a 7.5 room post WW2 with full concrete foundation, a new central heatpump and 2 out buildings.
Yeah. The east buying up. Watch them🙄
Thank you for the timely info, and encouraging words at the end! Cheers
Thanks John 😊
Hope you're fully recuperated now. God bless you, I'm always looking forward to your videos, just have a special love for you. Well done mama.
Thanks alot Ibukun. Appreciate the love and support ❤
About things getting expensive I think it's a general, over here in nigeria, each month I go grocery shopping, the price of something would have increased
That's true Emelia. I was watching sisi Yemmie sometime ago and she was complaining as well. We can only hope for the best
Same in South Africa. Grocery is getting more and more expensive. It is getting ridiculous 😒
I love your accent! 😍😍 The videos are great, they are really helping me. Thank you! 👏🏻❤️
Thank you Manoella 😊
It is a very explanatory video. Thank you very much Olu!! greetings from Perú!!
Chai thank you for this, I have seen shege, in this past month searching for a house in Moncton, I nearly cried at some point
I can imagine what you went through, hope you are settling in gradually. Please reach out if you need anything. Welcome to moncton 😊
The housing taxes in those provinces are worse than anywhere else in Canada. That’s what I was told.
Thank you so much for being honest and for sharing your experiences.
Thank you Cynthia 😊
We got a house here around 4000 but thr is property almost 1M in Ontario
Moncton is the best quality of life for family living than ON,Vancouver &Calgary.
Reg groceries while Canada/whole world are getting expensive now a days. Simple example from Ontario all supplier there and here are the same like Walmart, sobeys, Costco
They are the same prices.
Totally agree with your view Leah 👌
The buyer’s market last year was crazy last year everywhere!!! Vancouver was insane.
I hate to say this, but I think the reason housing and renting becomes expensive, price gone up is because people from Ontario, BC all over Canada move to New Brunswick and the east, because the housing and renting there has become unaffordable nowadays. It sucks the price has gone up.
Absolutely I agree
Thanks for sharing Rochelle. We can all hope for the best 👌🙏
Thanks for the honesty. I want to move there and want to visit
Hi Tram, thanks for the comment and so sorry to hear about the miscarriage 😥 hope you are feeling okay now.
Sending you all the positive thoughts 💕💖

great Information.. ma'am i am intending to enrol in NBCC but have not much information about City of Moncton.
Would consider this city is suitable for international students in perspective of part time jobs and studies?
Request for reply. Thanks in Advance
This is depressing news about the housing market there, but thank you for sharing the information.
Thanks B G. It is for sure depressing, however it's just a phase. With patience and perseverance, you'll get what you desire 😊
It just might be a trend, but Moncton is the most sought after city to live in in NB; time will tell.
These are great videos! Housing is insane, know someone who just sold for 70% over assessment, and 79,000 over asking. It is ridiculous.
😯😯 that's alot Dampcake. Thanks for sharing
The wage and tax always makes life harder! Not fair!!! Nice video because we won’t judge you after we move there. Thanks sis🙏🙏🙏
Thanks Kaleyma 😊
Well we moved here 4 years ago to get out of Ontario, and now It's feeling like I'm back in Ontario 🤔😢..... I'm originally from NFLD......I don't like how busy it's getting😥I watched same happen in Ontario.
So true. But I guess that's the price for economic growth and development.
Thanks for the comment 👍
Canada was colonozied by France and Britain - France and Britain were colonized by Rome (and England was also colonized by the Saxons - they were Germans)
So sorry. :(
I'll be there by the end of the year and the amount of time you said struggle has me wondering...
Your sister should look at the health care jobs
Public Transit is good but the buses do not go very deep into the subdivisions meaning a long walk to the nearest bus stop.
Good to know.
That's true Marie. 👍
Agreed!

I read somewhere that NB was a Familly oriented Province... Yet most landlords do not like Kids in Appt... reeally???? Such a contrast !
Nova Scotia is about the same unless you are thinking of the Halifax area. It's much worse!

Job prospects in NB has always been terrible. A lot of young adults move out of province to find work.
I am planning to relocate to New Brunswick still not certain whether to move to Moncton or frediction
Both cities are pretty cool.
Is it better to buy in Moncton or just 30 minutes out for the same price?
Thanks For the explanation... its so useful...
Thanks Thiago 😊
Which school do you recommend for an african international student?
Hello Olu, thank you for this informative video. I am planning to move to NB and as a musician I am hoping to connect with other musicians who share my interests. Actually I play Fela Kuti style afrobeat as a drumset player at a professional level. In my research about music in NB I have not seen much of this kind of thing. Perhaps you are in a position to know if there are people in your community who play or are interested in this kind of music. Thank you. Dan

While doing my research I found it so strange that so many apts don’t accept kids. I started thinking that they don’t like kids there in Moncton 🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
That's really bad. Hope you found your way out.
I think landlords think the kids will destroy the place. It is difficult for me who has children. Most of the time they will not tell you.
They actually love kids here. But the rate at which the province grew in thw last few years, nobody would have imagine it. And truthfully some buildings were not built to be child friendly. There are lots of apartment that take kids, its just that the demand right now is way higher than supply

He got scammed.

All your struggles are the same across the country. Inflation, housing, family doctors. As for the opportunity/over education, pick a bigger city for more opportunity. You don’t move to a city with less than 100k population and expect top tier employment opportunities.
Homelessness also everywhere.

Really put this action to the test to see if canada was even ready for this change government needs to set up and get more place build since they went over their heads it not the people who come to canada fault and it needs to change we dont want to have the street pack with homeless so get places for these people and lets end. Homelessness in canada
no rent control here !
I really like your videos
