I know what I'm about to say is obvious but sometimes hearing it from another source is helpful. I'm 65 years old, a high school public school teacher of English, single (never married though have a had significant relationships over the years) and enjoy short backpacking trips, weekly hikes, etc., without which I could never survive teaching.
Becoming a physician can only be done by attending a School of Medicine and once completed, the new physician can work in a variety of environments such as ER doc by contract 6 months, etc. Traveling from place to place eliminates becoming a physician. This means a four to 6ish years living a stationary life except for short get-aways. Doing work while one person in a partnership is in school (even though you have done sales work before) is, in terms of a lifespan, a short-term commitment. Just because you have done sales before does not mean you must continue doing that while your partner is in Medical School. I did one thing for a living for 16 years, went back to school to earn a teaching credential and have been a teacher for 25 years. I choose NOT to be a teacher when I wasn't and chose to be a teacher when I committed to the financial and time and energy commitment to achieve that goal. This choice and commitment did not result in emotional or love loss, but instead love gain. This change for both of you is an act of love and fear in a change...stepping into the unknown. Take the plunge...you can always rethink and re-choose. Always choose people/person over all else. But in the end as you reflect back on your life consider what do you value the most. Therein lies your treasure.

Thank you for the heartfelt and thoughtful advice @christinaelliot - it is helpful hearing it from another source.
You are right, a job is a short-term commitment, and ultimately I should chase what lights me up. - even if that means monetary sacrifices in the short term. Trying to figure out how to bridge that gap now. Lastly, I Completely agree with your final sentiment: take the plunge… choose people first.
Truth is, without Fal, there would go most of the adventure anyways. Being able to share these moments make them all the sweeter.
Thanks for your words, and I hope to continue to think on how to incorporate more adventure in our lives while chosing love first

I would say, time to part ways. You risk having resentment towards the other person if you have to change what you want to do with your life. Compatibility is no longer there, unless she will become a traveling nurse or something one day.

Thanks for your input, it's good advice. We have worked it out though, and continue to plan/go on travels-- just from a home base now. :)
