I'm doing direct sales and I'm employed outside of my home. How would deduction of mileage work in this situation? If I sell to people in my office, would the drive to work be deducted?
The rule is commute miles cant be deducted. But the trick is... have a home office. Your commute is to your home office, than to your regular office at work. Now those miles are considered business travel, and are deductible.
To deduct home-office expenses, you must use the area exclusively and on a regular basis, either as your principal place of business or a setting to meet or deal with patients, clients or customers.
