In my case I approach girls fairly regularly, at least a handful a week, but I'm lucky to get a date every few years. So when you meet that girl who shows interest... It feels like you won the lottery. And even though you're trying not to come on too strong, she's lulling you into a sense of security by telling you how much she likes you, how she's never fallen for a guy this fast, how she can't stop thinking about you, and you can't help but tell her you feel the same way. Everything goes well for a bit. One night she texts you "goodnight baby, I have to get up early for my test, but I can't stop thinking about you, I can't believe how much I love you!" Then the next morning you wake up to a breakup text where she casually is like "hey, yeah I don't think this is gonna work, sorryyyyyyyy". If you have options, it's easy not to get invested quickly. But when every girl you're interested in is guaranteed not to want anything to do with you, it's pretty freaking hard when you finally find that one girl who is. If you have options, it's easy not to get invested quickly. But when every girl you're interested in is guaranteed not to want anything to do with you, it's pretty freaking hard when you finally find that one girl who is. Especially when realistically, it will be anywhere from 3-5 years before you get another chance.
