    Harry Potter: Immerses you in the Wizarding world you've seen in the movies with practically everything being recognizable and faithly recreated. Absolutely amazing rides with unique drinks/food.
    Galaxy's Edge: A shopping mall on a planet that no one has any emotional connection to with none of the places or characters we loved. One very medicore ride, and most things costing an absurd amount of money (lightsaber, Droid, etc.) it's stinks cause I LOVE Star wars but man just another case of Disney ignoring fans and deciding they know what's best. So much potential :(

    @disneyland4-ever this is not a comparison of the two places. It’s a biased fluff piece for Disney. You seem to nit pick Harry Potter with your critique. For example you blast Harry Potter for not being able to maneuver in the shop. But gloss over the Disney critique of price. You know $200 for the lightsaber experience is a little steep. Especially when you have a family of four. Plus $100 for building your own droid. Not to mention having to but money on a plastic card to make purchases. That can be a bit of a hassle. In addition, how does one Americanize British cuisine. On the topic of rides Harry Potter has four rides to Disney’s one. I’m just curious when did the Falcon seat six people. Also, didn’t the gunners sit in different places and not the cockpit.
    Now let’s talk about the elephant in the room. At Harry Potter land you can wear a costume. No matter what your age is. Which totally adds to the experience. Galaxy’s Edge you can only wear a costume if your under 14.
    Also, Harry Potter land allows for the fans to visit Hogwarts. Star Wars fans wanted to visit, Mos Eisley, Endor, Hoth, Bespin, and the Death Star. So in a nutshell Harry Potter fans get what they wanted.

      People go for the experience of living the franchise they love. Harry Potter ticks all boxes. Galaxies Edge, chewbacca and the falcon, are the only reference to the original trilogy, no one cares about rey, kylo ren maybe a little more, but they're still based on a trilogy for the most part, isn't received too well by fans. If we had mos eisley and vader walking around, and the original cantina, now that would be pretty epic.

      @@eduardorodriguez4177 it's a shame really, Universal attracts Harry Potter fans and non-Harry Potter fans while Disney has clearly no idea what they're doing?

    Ok so hold on, your a self proclaimed harry potter fan. You teared up walking around galaxys edge, when you have no emotional connection to it like harry potter, yet you didn't feel any emotion when you go Into the wizarding world? Ask me, how much have Disney paid you 😂

      Yeah like I am a massive star wars fan, and I like the Harry Potter movies but I haven't read the books, and even I will admit that wizarding world of Harry Potter is a lot closer to recreating Harry Potter then galaxys edge did with star wars, without the millennium falcon, youd struggle to know what world your in. I do love galaxys edge, only been in it once, but Harry Potter, nails it

    Haven’t been to either but I’m a big fan of Harry Potter and huge fan of Star Wars. Just based on what I’ve seen via TH-cam videos, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter looks more interesting. Everything there is instantly recognizable. Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade, Hogwarts, etc. Galaxy’s Edge is completely different. Aside from the Falcon and a few other ships, nothing is recognizable. I’m aware that this is supposed to be featured in Episode 9 but honestly, who cares? Galaxy’s Edge looks rather generic and therefore, I cannot see how it could be immersive. There doesn’t seem to be any connection to any of the iconic locations. Been a fan of Star Wars since 1977 when the first movie came out so its disappointing to me to see that Disney went generic with their park aesthetic. At this point, if I had to choose, it would be Harry Potter.

    • @Disneyland4ever
      @Disneyland4ever  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, it's something that needs to be experienced. You are right that Harry Potter is instantly recognizable but I think Disney felt that keeping things more generic allows the land to grow and change over time. If it were a specific locale they wouldn't have that freedom. That's my thought anyway. You make excellent points.

    • @eduardorodriguez4177
      @eduardorodriguez4177 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you got the point! I thought they would recreate Coruscant, Tatooine or at least an indoor place like a futuristic spaceship, but the reality is that it looks like a film set or another Morocco pavillion, for me it is a 0 in inmersion but a 9 in theming.

    • @Disneyland4ever
      @Disneyland4ever  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So you know, when I use the term "immersion" I'm referring to not only how well executed everything is but how well non-related elements are kept out of view. I understand what you mean by the term, but I wanted to clarify what I meant.

    Thanks for the comparison video. Have been to Harry Potter with our son, daughter-in-law, and grandkids (5 and 6 years old). Really enjoyed the experience! Spent hours playing around with the wands, browsing the shops, and drinking warm butter beer (on a cool and rainy afternoon). Rode all four rides, some several times. It was a real kick!!! Really a great way to spend the afternoon. Have not been to Galaxy's Edge yet and can't wait to try it out.

    Another new video, loved it. I haven't ever been to Universal Orlando or Hollywood because I hear that most of the thrill rides don't allow for larger guests to fit in a lot of the ride vehicles. So I can't really compare the two. I also was surprised that Disney would launch the blue and green milk to not great reviews. You said people either love it or hate it, that part seems like a big miss for Disney. I hear people saying they love butter beer the debate is hot or cold. Thank you for sharing, I like that you are always honest with the viewers about how you feel about something.

    The reason Wizarding World succeeded where Galaxy's Edge failed is that the shopping experience is pre-built into the world of Harry Potter. The shops & restaurants are specifically mentioned in the books dozens of times because that's where the characters all go. Hogsmeade is where the Hogwarts students go to hang out, so it makes complete sense to visit Hogsmeade on your way to ride Forbidden Journey and buy some food or a wand. It doesn't feel like you got plopped down into a shopping mall, even though you did.
    Also, Disney made a big mistake by opening the land with only Smuggler's Run. Rise of the Resistance is jaw dropping and that would have given those earlier visitors the wow moment they were really looking for.

    While I'm not a huge Star Wars fan I think Disney took the right road. Making it generic so that it can expand and grow along as the franchise grows. My main gripe is that they opened it unfinished. It's like opening a billion dollar new land that includes Pirates of the Caribbean and Dumbo the flying elephant and only offering Dumbo! That being said I think hands down Galexy's Edge has it over Harry Potter and once the new ride opens it will blow it away ( I hope). My final word.... Why couldn't they keep Big Thunder Barbecue? I mean come on they can make room!

  • @timothygenewong

    Thanks for this video. I've been thinking about this a lot and I think the nature of each IP really influences what you can do with it in a theme park setting. Overall I feel like Harry Potter feels more like stepping into one of the movies, while Galaxy's Edge feels more like having your own original adventure in the Star Wars universe. Subtle difference in experience, but a notable one. Harry Potter is a more emotional experience for me. But Galaxy's Edge is a more exciting one.

    Really appreciate this video (trying to plan a trip to Orlando or LA to go to Galaxy's Edge and Wizarding World - I'm a big SW fan, and my friend is a big HP fan, but the two of us still really like both). Do you think b/c you're a bigger Harry Potter fan, that your expectations for the Wizarding World were higher; hence more disappointment? Also, can you do a comparison of the Wizarding World in Orlando and the WW in Hollywood? (assuming you've been to both)

    • @timothygenewong
      @timothygenewong 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would say that if you have a choice and can accommodate the cost, definitely go to Wizarding World in Orland. They have two areas between Hogsmede and Diagon Alley, so much more to explore and more attractions to see. Hollywood feels a bit more like a theme park just because there is less to do. Also, the sight lines are not as good.
      It is worth while to visit both Galaxy's Edge and Wizarding World, but I do find that Galaxy's Edge merchandise is very specific and niche for the super fan. If you don't get the references, you will find yourself wanting to buy less (outside of the big items like the lightsaber and droid).

      @@timothygenewong Awesome! Thanks for the info. It's one of my mom's literal bucket list items, so I think it's worth the extra cost.
      I've hear Galaxy's Edge can feel like just a "merchandise land" - which is why I at least want to wait until both of their attractions are open. Thanks again.

    Immersion and merch go to Universe period because I can buy robes and wear them in the park which means others are too. Immersion also is helped if you can get lost in the world Diagon Alley had my head spinning from all the known locations, Galaxy's Edge has the Falcon and that's it

    I’m a Pixar fan.

    For me, sometimes Harry Potter is winning.
    But then. I see star wars land and I’m like. Well maybe
    So I don’t know, I mean Harry Potter land has so much detail. But so does Star Wars. Arrg. I’ll just say both
