It had it’s funny moments but genuinely felt a sadness for Elisabeth at the end. I agree that this deserves so many award nominations especially an Oscar but knowing the academy they probably won’t and it enrages me to know it’ll get overlooked.
I feel so sad for the actors, writers, set artists and the director and everyone who made this art happen. It's so beautiful in so many ways you could imagine
It says a lot that Elisabeth doesn’t seem to have anyone in her life that TRULY loves her… not envies her, not admires her, but just loves and cares about her wellbeing (no one even asks how she’s doing). We hear her speak so little, because that’s not what the people want. She’s gotten so used to being just a pretty face to the point that she can’t handle any other reality. I think this movie is a great message for younger people in denial about getting older, and looking older… it’s gonna happen, honey. Prepare for that inevitability while you’re young so it doesn’t hit you like a ton of bricks
The question is how we overcome our upcoming older state like worn off of body limbs that can't no longer work properly Because it wasn't just the appearance that make young people afraid being older

I cried for Elisabeth Sparkle at the end. A woman in the movie theater reached over and held my hand. It was a very traumatic experience for me LOL. I'm so glad you guys watched it and I can't wait for Demi to get her Oscar!
I love the choice to cast Demi specifically because she is GORGEOUS. I’ve seen her in interviews for this movie and her skin literally is GLOWING. I think this really paints a powerful message that you can be a millionaire superstar that looks better than 95% of every other person your age and STILL be made to feel inadequate. Elizabeth WAS gorgeous, but she was also 50 years old and there’s NOTHING wrong with looking 50 years old. Culture and society really warps how we see ourselves, and denies the inescapable reality of aging. It’s natural, it’s beautiful the whole way through and no one should be made to feel like they are inferior for no other reason than existing for a certain period of time.
I don’t know if you read where Demi stated that she had to meet with Fargeat 6 times before she got the role. She gave her her instant #1 New York Times bestselling book “Inside Out” to read. That’s what sealed the deal. She has lived this life personally as an A-List celebrity who was once the highest paid actress in the industry. She turned 40 during Charlie’s Angels. “They didn’t know what to do with me” Demi has said. I’m a lifelong fan of her career. This is definitely her comeback movie. Although the Academy does not like body horror, she needs to be nominated. Just play the bathroom scene where she’s getting ready for her date & she will win the Oscar. I have not been this excited for a movie since “Requiem for a Dream”. There were quite a few references to it throughout the movie. I definitely thought this was an Aronofsky film when I 1st saw the trailer until Coralie’s name was plastered across the screen. This is personally one of my top 5 movies of all time
Elisabeth wanted so badly to be younger and Sue wanted to stay young cause she couldn’t stand seeing the way Elisabeth chose to live during her 7 days. As different as they seemed, they both wanted the same thing. Elisabeth resented herself and Sue felt the same.
The scene in the bathroom where she gets more and more insecure everytime she looks at herself in the mirror until she just give up and stay home hits waaay too hard
I saw this movie probably a week ago at this point and despite this being a body horror the only thing that disgusted me was the sight of Dennis Quiad eating seafood in this movie
The old guy who gave her the usb didn't warn her because he was his young self. Just like Sue acts completely different from Elizabeth, the same happens with the old guy. You can think of it like when you have motivation to start eating heathy,no more sugar etc, but the very next day, once the cravings hit, it's very hard to oppose and remember why you were against sugar in the furst place. It feels like you are two different people - a very shallow example ,but it might resonate with more people. Also, the motorcycle guy was rude in the morning because he saw Elizabeth - an old hag blocking his way - he was nice to Sue because she was pretty and he was about to get laid
The part that made me sad was when Elisabeth was trying to go out and enjoy some company, but she kept comparing herself to Sue to the point she was so insecure she bailed. That was triggering.
Saw this film at the SCAD Film Festival last night. Margaret AND Demi were both there at the screening!! They both did a FANTASTIC job in this horror film, and I fear I need more like it in the future!
The reason the young surgeon didn't warn her about it was simply because the clones don't care, sue wasn't the one withering away when breaking the rules so why would the young dude?
For those who remembered Death becomes her and love both those movies with passion😊❤ made my day to see this pop up Pumking season all the way!!❤ Forgot to mention "has she started eating away at you?" Perfect representation of body dysmporphia, depression, anxiety and other mental health issues.
There are actually a ton of body horror movies like this, it's a real sub genre of horror, but never has someone like Demi starred and had it be such an upfront critique of the industry. I really hope they reward her for doing this movie.
With all of the instructions they gave, I would have still fucked up The Substance. And body horror is a challenge for me too, but this film being an absurd take on beauty standards and self hatred.
That's Margaret Qualley under all that Monstro Elisasue makeup. There's some video and photos floating around the interwebs that have her goofing off in the makeup on set.
I am pretty sure they would eat normally. The goop pouches were the food to keep them alive while the body wasn't used. The active party was living normally, food, water, sleep etc.Sue was mad and affected by food because she was obsessed with her imagine and accomplishments. Elizabeth was binge eating and slouching around the entire week.
In this movie, you will learn that words coming from someone’s mouth can really change a person. She was happy until she heard that man’s words, which changed her life. You will also learn that you shouldn’t listen to your surroundings and that you shouldn't let your ego consume you.
The irony is that women in Hollywood in the real world would be paying ridiculous amounts of money just to do the crazy stuff and surgeries just to do what Demi’s character is doing just to look younger and beautiful, Madonna and the Kardashian ladies would definitely be that example
But you know what's funny? Kim Kardashian, whose large butt became a signature feature of hers, is gone now. Do you know why? Because Brazilian Butt-Lifts are more affordable and the procedure is spreading across the common people. The elite absolutely HATE when things they've done to themselves become popular among the "common" folk, so she removed hers. It's possible that the same will happen to lip fillers as well! That's why women should NEVER strive to attain the procedures/looks that famous people have, because they'll immediately toss them out and it'll become "outdated". It's horrendous.
This was my introduction to you both and I don’t think it could’ve been any better lol! Loved the movie and your reaction! I saw this in the theaters and everyone applauded when it was over.
I feel like what people don’t get of the moment when Elisabeth and Sue become separate or conscious at the same time, it represents the dynamics of a “celebrity”, that is their public face, and their true self, they usually shouldn’t be so different, as your public persona you would at least hide your private life, but here… Elisabeth tried so hard to not be her, that she made it, she preferred her public persona over her own self, she showed a face to the public (through Sue), that got sooo far from her true self, that there was nothing left of her, and that happens in real life to real celebrities, both faces could go around as two and no one would even consider them to be related, because she wasn’t herself anymore, she lost herself
Mother Demi was serving in this🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽…kudos to the stylist, MUA, prosthetics , set designer, lighting director. Side bar: Ms Sue please apply a little neosporin to your main body Sis😷…perhaps prop her up in some Imported Egyptian Cotton sheets…something😦
the mirror scene really hurts because body dysmorphia is really serious and people don't take it seriously; As a trans woman I experience that plus gender dysphoria and that scene really broke me.
I truly hope certain people watch this movie and really absorb its message. So many people are so shallow and vain, but the worst is when they're mean. And they think that they can be mean just because someone is famous, so they harp on them, say mean things, shame, to the point where the person just can't be themselves or even human, they have to do procedures even though they're already perfect, they ruin their bodies to fit into an impossible standard. Especially as someone who used to be very in touch with kpop and read a lot of korean comments online, those people are too obsessed. They judge even the shape of a knee, the size of a head, how large an ankle is. Things people can't even control or change! And whenever someone points out how shallow this is, they always justify things with "well, they're idols, they're celebrities, they should've expected this...", when those idols and celebrities actually start in the industry as little kids bc god forbid we idolize older people! We need idols who are still losing their first teeth to dance in front of us and apply botox even when they don't need it! Idk this subject has always infuriated me and even though when projects like this come out and people get all critical about its message, on daily life no one truly wants to commit to be a nice person. It's as if it's impossible for someone to not make a snarky comment about one's appearance or age. And if you don't follow suit, you're made fun of. Anyways, as pissed as I am, I'm grateful that you guys posted this. I can't handle gore and knew I couldn't watch the full thing, so watching censored reactions was the only way 😅 thank you!
South Korea's beauty standards are monstrous, that's for sure. Are you aware of the 4B feminist movement over there? If not, I suggest you take a look. But overall, my point of mentioning it is that I'd hope that the 4B movement would adopt the ideology of rejecting those insane beauty standards for women in the country. It ruins women's lives, especially when their appearance is a commodity for men and not for women's own sake.

Margaret Qualley honestly has a great aggressive scream. I still feel like there's a hint (or sound) of "horror movie victime" in her high pitches but she sounded amazingly frustrated in her screams here. I am considering her as a scream queen here, but a diff definition of the term

There’s a part in this movie where Elizabeth talks about how she was selfish and egotistical when she was younger. That’s one reason why Sue might have been so antagonistic when she was created. She might physically embody the best traits of Elizabeth, but not the best mental and behavioral ones.
When did she say that!? Was it in the movie or the script?? I’m currently reading the script & have watched the move 3 times. I don’t know how I missed that🤷🏻♀️
This movie deserves at LEAST one Oscar in any category m. I’d be happy for Demi to get best actress but I’m willing to put money on it that she will not win only because this is a horror film. But I feel like best original screenplay is a no brainer
Great reaction! ❤ This movie is very similar to Requiem For A Dream in the way it portrays mania, panic and distorted reality from a characters perspective. The Substance is an all time classic movie already, it's a game changer. ❤

@@liaspooked4980 It's so funny I swear 😭
If Demi Moore doesn't get at least a golden globe nomination for this movie in January I'll be livid
I love how at the start of the movie, they were like, “I can’t handle body horror. I can’t handle…” and by the end they were full on supporting Monstro Elisasue and her spouting blood at everyone. 😂
this is one of the best movie concepts perhaps i’ve ever seen? GIVE DEMI AND MARGARET THEIR OSCARS!
yessss😍 since i saw the trailer I was and still here for it
yesss and none for d*nnis 😊
It's in my top 5 all time. Fing fantastic.
I agree 1000000%!
It's basically dorian gray and lookism combined but yeah this movie is awesome, especially the music and cinematography
You would think at least one person would notice she went missing for 3 months, but we don’t see one person come and check on her.
@@Moretropes11 right?! She doesn’t have a single person on her side
The question is how we overcome our upcoming older state like worn off of body limbs that can't no longer work properly
Because it wasn't just the appearance that make young people afraid being older
@@darkman7009 Yeah, this is what scares me most about aging. I think I will be able to accept losing my youthful beauty, but I am deathly afraid of my body and mind deteriorating. I can't bear the thought of not being able to move by myself, or losing myself and the life I had and becoming a husk, becoming confused and scared. I've made up my mind that if that comes to happen, I'll pursue euthanasia. I refuse to spend my last days like that, you know?
@@Moretropes11 her whole life was the show. her only friends are her costars, her only dates are one night stands, her dining table only has one chair, as if she had never even thought of the possibility of someone going to her house to consume anything but her.
I cried for Elisabeth Sparkle at the end. A woman in the movie theater reached over and held my hand. It was a very traumatic experience for me LOL. I'm so glad you guys watched it and I can't wait for Demi to get her Oscar!
with this movie in the theater I cried, I screamed, I laughed, I felt every possible feeling and I left the theater wanting to see the movie again.
Wes's face everytime Dennis Quaid is on-screen makes me LOL!!
right🤣

"That foundation is not his color." 🤣🤣🎃
As a twenty-something , ever since i saw this movie , i have made it my absolute mission to hype women over 50 everytime i see the opportunity 💗😭✨️
Not her curling the one strand of hair 😂 that killed me. Also this movie was amazing and so insane in the best way
Around the end, my twisted mind thought of the end of “Death Becomes Her”. “Do you remember where you parked the car?”
The scene in the bathroom where she gets more and more insecure everytime she looks at herself in the mirror until she just give up and stay home hits waaay too hard
Sue and Elizabeth are the same person! They aren't two separate people
"I can't do spine shit"
Oh honey, you have a big storm coming 😂
I saw this movie probably a week ago at this point and despite this being a body horror the only thing that disgusted me was the sight of Dennis Quiad eating seafood in this movie
This! If I weren't already a vegetarian, that would have been my tipping point. 🤢
If Demi doesn't win an Oscar for this,
there is NO justice in the universe.
Ohh I never thought about that, I was like "that old man is an ass" but nope, the younger versions are the asses.
They both did a FANTASTIC job in this horror film, and I fear I need more like it in the future!
right ever since i saw the trailer I was and still here for it😍
53:12 "I think they are just jealous of her beauty. They can never be this multidimensional" 😂😂😂
If you take her keycard of 503 and turn it upside down, it could be re read as E O S…Elisabeth or Sue
7:19 "he's very... ominus"
"he was... and that foundation was not his color" lmaoaoaoaooaao i love y'all sm 😂😂😂
The reason the young surgeon didn't warn her about it was simply because the clones don't care, sue wasn't the one withering away when breaking the rules so why would the young dude?
For those who remembered Death becomes her and love both those movies with passion😊❤ made my day to see this pop up Pumking season all the way!!❤ Forgot to mention "has she started
eating away at you?" Perfect representation of body dysmporphia, depression, anxiety and other mental health issues.
There are actually a ton of body horror movies like this, it's a real sub genre of horror, but never has someone like Demi starred and had it be such an upfront critique of the industry. I really hope they reward her for doing this movie.
54:48 - Monstro ElisaSue serving some major "Do you remember where you parked the car?" realness.
With all of the instructions they gave, I would have still fucked up The Substance.
And body horror is a challenge for me too, but this film being an absurd take on beauty standards and self hatred.
bro imagine have to stich the spine of your old body
How would you?
That's Margaret Qualley under all that Monstro Elisasue makeup. There's some video and photos floating around the interwebs that have her goofing off in the makeup on set.
To the guy in red already stressed from the early scenes of the movie, I just kept thinking: Honey, you got a big storm coming
"They cannot be multidimensional like her" I cackled
Dudes, you cant love elisabeth and hate sue, or rule for one and not the other, THEY ARE ONE
Demi herself too, hats off to her for doing this movie and she’s been honest about her work done
Oh my fucking GOD I’m so happy you watched this, I’m so hype
this movie deserves every possible award that exists
3:14 That was my exact reaction on the theater, Demi really devoured the choreography 😆🔥

I feel like what people don’t get of the moment when Elisabeth and Sue become separate or conscious at the same time, it represents the dynamics of a “celebrity”, that is their public face, and their true self, they usually shouldn’t be so different, as your public persona you would at least hide your private life, but here…
Elisabeth tried so hard to not be her, that she made it, she preferred her public persona over her own self, she showed a face to the public (through Sue), that got sooo far from her true self, that there was nothing left of her, and that happens in real life to real celebrities, both faces could go around as two and no one would even consider them to be related, because she wasn’t herself anymore, she lost herself
This movie is EVERYTHING. I didn’t expect to love it as much as I do but it’s one of my favorites of the year.
"I'm at a loss for words...truly" describes the entire experience of watching this movie 😂
This score, those glasses, that walk, the jacket…the substance.
Ahhhh I'm so excited for this reaction!!! Y'all are my comfort creators ❤ keep up the amazing work!
The naked self hatred Demi portrayed is OSCAR WORTHY it is primal and raw and amazing. Wtf. Wtf. Ugh. Stunner.

Demi Moore deserves an Oscar nomination!
I cried watching yall see the ending for the first time. It’s so beautiful. Great video. Amazing movie
11:50 Not the Nickelodeon slime 😭😭
This is my first time on this channel. You're a riot! I could watch movies with you guys all day!
the mirror scene really hurts because body dysmorphia is really serious and people don't take it seriously; As a trans woman I experience that plus gender dysphoria and that scene really broke me.
That is the best way to describe this movie. It literally hypnotizes you.
That orange/red hallway and bathroom were definitely giving The Shining!!!! I just watched your reaction of The Shining today ❤❤❤❤
With all the top shelf Cronenbergy effects in this flick, I love that shrimp cocktail and a chicken wing both win by a MILE 🤣
It ruins women's lives, especially when their appearance is a commodity for men and not for women's own sake.
reference that i got was, Stanley Kubrick, Shinning (the hallway) + blood, 2001 (music), Steven King - Carrie with the blood in the teatern, the movie Fly with Jeff Goldblom
Margaret Qualley honestly has a great aggressive scream. I still feel like there's a hint (or sound) of "horror movie victime" in her high pitches but she sounded amazingly frustrated in her screams here. I am considering her as a scream queen here, but a diff definition of the term
Literally can’t stop thinking about this movie 😅🫠😵💫
The main villain of this movie wasnt the sue or the black market drug. It harvey himself and hollywood culture of ageism

This movie is definitely my favorite of the year as well! I’m actually glad I didn’t know anything about the body horror beforehand, because I would’ve skipped it for sure!
I love this for Demi. Perfectly aligned role for her!
