      Thanks 👍😀. Yes, pretty good condition, which is always nice 😀. It has been 'worked' on at some point and the soundbox does seem to be missing some parts.

      Thanks 👍😀. Glad it was of interest. I hope to be able to service the soundbox on it at some point and have a closer look how that is put together.

    That sound box appears to be an over engineered marvel. Sounds great though and that is the important part.
    PS Mrrgstuff-the man with two watches! 😁
    PSS crack repair? Fascinating! That old black magic was written by one of the greatest lyricists ever by the way😀

      @mrrgstuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the soundbox looks to be very over engineered, though I think the missing stuff really won't make much difference to it. It does sound surprisingly well, but I need to fix it better on the tonearm and also check the gaskets inside. The 2nd watch is a fitness band, but yes I do have 2 watches!
      I think I have 2 or 3 records with cracks, so I hope to be able to do a video showing how to repair them using a 3D printing heat tool or soldering iron.
      Thanks 👍😀

    Think the term 'lifebelt' refers to that horseshoe shape at the front of the soundbox. Have seen lifebelts of that shape on rare occasions, certainly easier to swim into for someone in difficulties! Think the secret of the loud & pleasing tone is in that soundbox. They've certainly gone to some trouble to acoustically isolate it from conducting unwanted resonances to the tone arm. Would love to see one stripped down. Expect there'd be some interesting design features.

      It's a complicated little device, certainly 😉. I did wonder if the rubber ring was the life belt, or maybe the missing plate and springs 🤔. Anyway I will probably do a video of servicing it so you should get to see the insides. Thanks 👍😀

    Good sound. I love the soundbox. I use bog standard selotape instead of the ptfe stuff . Often a single turn is enough.

      Yes, tape of some kind would be good, but PTFE tape I think is too smooth. I do avoid putting adhesive tape directly on platee parts though as it can lift the plating. Haven't yet decided how to reattach this soundbox though. Thanks 👍😀

    That portable Sounds great. I've seen so many where the sound just comes out the tone arm and off to an opening at the side, but this looks like the HMV 101 type horn where the horn goes round the motor. I had that zonophine record once but sadly broke it! Very loud portable machine, love the styling on the soundbox!

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the horn does seem to be similar to the 101, though I have not had a proper look at it yet. I think the whole machine was a competitor to the 101. It is very loud also though. The camcorder I think auto adjusted the volume so it doesn't seem as loud in the video as it did in real life! Soundbox is certainly the most interesting bit, and I will hopefully service it as some point and see more how it is put together 🤔😉. The record was a something from the big box from "All My 78's". Due to the twisting of the soundbox it struggled to play it all, but it does seem like a good record. Thanks 👍😀

      @@mrrgstuff the condition looks great on the portable too. The first machine I got me into 78s was a selectra branded portable. Nothing fancy, just an opening for the horn. It was in great condition at one time, but when I found it out it was riddled with woodworm :(. I'm going to save the motor etc.

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shame about the woodworm. I was going to do a video on something the other day (not a gramophone), but when I unwrapped it I found traces of recent woodworm, so wrapped it all up again. Certainly worth saving the motor on yours too. My first machine was a Decca 100, which was pretty good, except the isolator for the soundbox which I redid. It was very loud too! Thanks 👍😀

      Yes, it's not all polished up. I think the Celebro has been properly serviced, though, as it runs and plays very smoothly. Thanks 👍 😀
