"Does it bring you joy" was the question asked by my therapist when I spoke of my reluctance to buy things for myself. I said, "yes" and she replied, "then that's all that matters". Now, I think like this...when one is on their deathbed, do they think, "ooh I really regret that joy I gave myself". No, of course not. We regret the things we did not do, more than the things we did. Live for today because every extra day we get on this beautiful planet is a blessing.
Christy, that is beautiful! Thank you for sharing it! I have really started thinking that way with my daughter. She is in High School this year and I know that the time left as a child is so fleeting. I’m trying to make those road trips, spend that time making cookies, say yes to that hike and soak it all up! I am so happy that you have started treating yourself and living in your joy! ❤️❤️❤️
How wonderful that you still have the purse your husband gave you when you guys were in high school. And what good taste he had at that age! The purse is both stylish and high quality.
I love Quince! I'm actually not a fan of a lot of designer bags. I hate the logos with a passion! I had a friend who gifted me a Coach bag in 2010 with the giant Cs all over it. The style was popular at the time. I had a Coach bag loved that was leather with no huge logo, just a tiny, discreet gold embossed name at the top, center edge of the bag. All she knew was that I liked the bag so she thought she'd found the ideal gift. I hated it! But I thanked her profusely and I carried that bag a few times a month because I loved her and she was always so happy to see me carry it. I did make an offhand statement after a couple of months that I was sort of over the whole "big logo" thing so she wouldn't buy another one! 😂 I don't mind the signature logo so much if it's used on the clasp like Chanel and Gucci do or the YSL in the beautiful chevron bag. Not that it matters - I would never pay that for a purse with my quiet life. I'm just not sure the girls at Harris Teeter would even notice! I splurged and bought a Donna Karan bucket bag in the early 90s (yes, I'm old! 😂) and I loved it! I paid $150 (the same as over $300 now) and it was worth every penny. I carried it for a couple of years in heavy rotation, then put it aside for a year or so. Brought it back out and carried it often again with lots of compliments, then "retired" it once again for a couple of years. I did that repeatedly over a 20+ year span, disappointing people (even total strangers) who wanted to know where I bought it. It still looked brand new after 30 years the last time I saw it a few years ago. My daughter cleaned my house out (with my permission - long story) and I have never asked her whether she kept any particular item except a couple of things I wasn't sure she'd know the value of. So I'm not sure if she kept it (doubtful) or if somebody else was lucky to find it at the Salvation Army store. I don't think I want to know.
I have always found one that I liked, then carried it for years! I more than doubled what I own with this video - I think it is good to know what is out there! Thank you, Michelle!
Such fun with the bags!! I love a good tote bag and have found that in order for it to "clear" my shoulder, it has to be at least the distance from my elbow to my thumb (think Vera Bradley tote). The black bow is one of my favorites, mainly because it looks like the BV that I splurged on😊
I've never been interested in designer or like designer purses but took a look at Quince. Now I find myself in love with an emerald green suede bag! 😮 I'm still mulling it over. Love all the videos you have put out this month. Always delighted to hear from you!
I was totally thinking that a larger one would be perfect for craft stuff…keep it all in one place and will travel- the one in the video is the medium, they do have a large, though! goto.quince.com/OeejrG
I don't know how I missed this video! Purses make me happy! Get this though. About a month ago my daughter messaged me with a photo of a Frye & co Cellina tan leather satchel that she liked. It was 268.00 and out of her price range and she was sad. So I went through all my purses, sent her some photos and she chose a couple for me to send her. Two days later, she sent me another photo of the Fry & co bag. I asked her if she had given in and bought it and she told me that she had gone thrifting that day and went to a local veterans thrift store. She saw a bag hanging on a rack and went to look at it and it was The Fry & Co bag! FOR FIVE DOLLARS!!! It was Very gently used and the original price tag was tucked inside the purse! How lucky was that! I'd love more videos on purses. I love them. Heck, I'd just love more videos. See you soon!
Ooooh, thta was fun! Nowadays, I don't carry a bag unless I absolutely have to. I do have a small card carrier wallet that holds my cards, id and some cash. I have been wearing clothes with pockets to carry it and my phone. I do have one bag I bought for me because I loved it. It is an Anushka handpainted penguin bag. I got from one of the shopping channels. I have specific needs for my bags. There must be an outer slip (not zip) pocket for my phone, a zip compartment for change and the strap has to be long. Could you, would you do a video on belts? Finding them long enough and not too wide is impossible! I have seen you wear a few, and they were nice. I have not worn a belt since high school (and I just attended my 50th reunion!). I would like to try belts now, but cannot find them long enough.😀
Karen, I think that having specific requirements for a bag is what you should have! It needs to be convenient - and that's why they make so many!! I will work on an accessory video in the new year and show belts. Let me see which brand I normally buy on Amazon. Ok, there is a brand called Whippy - I have ordered several from them. These are about 1 inch wide and come in a variety of widths!
I have not used a purse/bag in over 6 years. I watched this just to support you. Yeah having rotator cuff issues and needing replacement shoulders makes giving them up easy enough. 12:06 edit to add stitch BIG ON STYLE on that tote
3 videos this week! ❤ I’m super boring when it comes to bags…. Have a navy one, and a black one….the same crossbody! I change depending on what I’m wearing 😂 I do have a crochet blue bag I use in the summer when I just need my credit card and phone, and of course lip gloss 😂 I also have a couple Lands End tote bags to carry if I need more! In my younger days, I always had a red leather bag, loved them! Now it seems having a crossbody is just easier! Thank you for sharing these! I actually love the tote…and the black bow one! Have a wonderful weekend ❤ ❤
Hey Vicki! Oh my goodness, I am so behind on videos and life in general. I am finally catching up and I’m so happy that you are still here for it- I’ve been so worried that I have overloaded y’all!! I did not carry anything but that Dooney for the first 10 years of my marriage. I more than doubled the number of handbags that I own after adding these 8 🤣🤣. I am enjoying shaking it up a little, though. I completely approve of your earlier-in-life-red-handbag 😉 Sending you hugs!
I do not know why they are not showing up as hyperlinks, but they do work to copy/paste- I’m trying to figure it out, because that is irritating! They have changed the design on the YSL looking bag. They have several quilted, that are very similar: goto.quince.com/099VAR I really appreciate you letting me know about the links!
As a married woman for over 50 years, I carry the smallest bag possible. Otherwise, I am subjected to "put this in your purse" syndrome. I dealt with it for many years, but when my FIL moved in with us, and he started loading up my bag....I put my foot down. My purse is now big enough to carry my ID and my inhaler. I am no longer the family pack mule.
Ok, that is brilliant! I feel like we get out of the car and EVERYTHING gets thrown in my purse… my daughter loves stowing her giant headphones in there! I may need to implement your smaller purse method!
But I’m single and I love a tote- as long as it has pockets for wallet, keys etc- especially on holiday- I love a city break and being a total tourist and just visiting all the famous sights- but I am also a magpie and am drawn to any shops or street vendors selling anything shiny, colourful or fun- so I need something that doubles as a shopping bag….
I too have a designer hand bag obsession. I actually don’t have a designer bag budget, so I buy used and I find great deal. I am very picky and will not buy unless I’m sure it’s authentic and the condition is up to my standards. ❤
One must always remember everything you buy (mostly) comes with different levels of quality. Marketing, designers, offices, stores and so on, all cost $. So when you buy a bag for $130 vs $2500 everything from the cost of quality to materials, who the designer is, marketing, and so on. So much goes on at all the levels of everything we buy. The consumer then makes the decision of what makes best sense for their situation. 😊
That was incredibly beautifully put! I especially like that you put emphasis on the consumer’s decision, because there is so much that is situational- the vast majority of people will never own a $2500 bag, and an incredibly significant portion of the population will never own a $130 bag. I am very happy that we have access to so many options!
Man. These are great bags! I loved the first one. Uno cards and laptop space are a must have in my work bag too! You never know when you might need them! 😅
I have 10 designer bags. The quality is so much better, the design of each bag is beautiful. My current bag is MK, it’s purple with braided handle, and 2 tassels. Very well made. It’s my current favourite. I even have a Prada bag, I bought years ago.
It sounds like you have a beautiful collection! I have several designer bags, but nothing as nice as a Prada. Mine are in the Dooney and Burke, Kate Spade, and Coach realm
I know that it doesn’t help right now, but this is my response from Quince (she actually saw a couple of messages about shipping before I was able to email) PS - also saw the comment on shipping to Canada and international shipping is something we are working on expanding to! We don't have an exact timeline yet, but the team is working on it!
I think it totally depends on the bag for me- my husband was laughing at the plastic zipper on the Marc Jacobs. For some reason the giant logo just does it for me there 🤣 I am 100% with you on the bargain front!
Hi, The bags did not disappoint. For myself the cream colored bag is virtually a year round color for here. Especially if you lean into the whole winter white that happens every winter. It reminded me of the DeMellier a bit with that clasp. DeMellier is a craft brand/luxury bag without the pricetag of a well known brand like Prada and Louis Vuitton. I haven't met this bag in person, but it's Tanner Leatherstein approved, if that carries any weight. Oh I almost forgot. There is no vegan leather of any commercial quantity and widely available at this time. It would cost as much or more than a very nicest of leather hides. Calling something vegan leather is something very many companies do for greenwashing purposes. If it's any form of plastic it should say so on the label and in the adds in my opinion. PU is polyurethane is a very not biodegradable thing, and I wish that all the vegans have that information from the get go. That way they have a choice of leather from the meat trade, and using a product basically made of oil. At least then they have the choice of how far they will take their veganism, which is a life philosophy and not a food choice, if the vegan is doing it right. They would also openly see how far companies will take their greenwashing. Okay, I'm getting down from my soapbox now. Yours, Ann
I got an all weather leather Dooney bag that I've carried almost daily for 40 abusive years. The leather is still good, the piping and straps are sad. Leather is not the same. Would the Quince bucket hold up like your Dooney? I looked at reviews of the Target tote and 50% said it fell apart in a week to a month. That's such a great design made worthless. I picked up a pu bag from Target that I used as a laptop bag several years ago that's finally giving out. It's hard to judge quality. If I want fashion, I'll buy shoes. My bag is function first.
I don’t t know if it will hold up quite ad well as my Dooney, but it is a very thick leather that is lined with a heavy canvas. The one thing that gives me a little pause on it is that it doesn’t have that leather piping. My Dooney bag’s piping is torn up pretty badly (actual holes in places) but I feel like that has protected the seems. It sounds like we both wear the heck out of our bags, so I think you will understand what I’m saying! Of all of the bags I have from Quince, the bucket bag and the little black bag seem the most heavy duty- the pebbled leather there just feels thicker. I don’t know that it is going to last like ours- for 20-40 years!! That said, none of these felt fragile or like they wouldn’t hold up. Now the design is different from the Dooney bucket- the back is more square, it could easily hold notebooks, tablet, small laptop. Then there is a divider and the front is like half of the classic bucket. Let me know if any of that doesn’t make sense and I’ll clarify!
@BigonStyle I think you get it. Fossil is a brand that's held up to some hard daily use for me. They used full grain leather, the type that looked better the more it was worn.
I have a Wilson leather bag I have had for over around 35 years. I will carry it forever. The quality is worth the cost. I have a Louie and I only carry it occasionally. My friend gave it to me. I have several D and B and love them. I do have several Patricia Nash purses. I don't plan on getting anymore purses at my age. But real leather and quality will make them last forever, or almost. Lol
Also, fun fact, I used to work in the handbag department at Macy's Galleria. You would have loved the Paloma Picasso bags: cherry lipstick red with gorgeous gold accents. Definitely my favorites. And Coach. Not the new fabric ones but the iconic leather Coach bags.
I bet that was absolutely gorgeous!! That had to be a tough place to work- temptation!!! Oh, I love this buccees cup- we bought this one and the red, and then I have one from work- I use the leopard one 90% of the time!
I know wealthy women who carry replicas. The main reason they gave is that they just understand the value of money and don't want to spend too much money on bags... so more people choose fashionable kislux bags. However, they do spend a lot of money on fine jewelry and other things.
I honestly can't say I've ever seen the point of spending thousands for a name on a bag. Does not compute (to me). I do see the point of buying a quality bag that will last and is a timeless style. My daily bag is a water resistant Baggalini bag, travel purse is a pickpocket resistant Travelon bag that will also hold a water bottle and umbrella. Biggest splurge was a leather bag I picked up in Italy because I loved the style, but even then, I didn't go crazy on the price. I'm way more impressed by bags that have enough pockets for me to organize/find things easily. But that's me, anyone else is welcome to do them.
I absolutely see your point, Jill. I have lots of girlfriends that carry very expensive bags, and like you, I would absolutely never disparage their choice- but, I can think of so many other things that I could spend that kind of money on! I also think that it totally depends on the bag- I want to have the reaction of ‘that is gorgeous’ before having the thought ‘gah, that’s expensive!’ And that is not always the case! I appreciate your help with the comment about responses earlier! I am able to look at most of the comments at lunch, but occasionally see them come through on my phone throughout the workday when I have a lull. I just wanted you to know that I appreciate you!!
@BigonStyle I definitely get it. The bag I picked up in Italy was expensive to me (more than I'd paid for a purse in the past) but it was so beautiful that I considered it worth it. I still love it and it should last a very long time. No worries on the other comment, trolls are one of the worst parts of the internet. Looking for attention, but don't you worry about what they said one more minute--I mean really, what's the official cut off point? What they say? Nah. Do what you have time for, I know you love interacting with commenters and it's appreciated. Happy holidays!
Quince has broken my heart! I have spent over a year watching all the influencers I follow do Quince try-ons and after looking at all the products on their website, drooling and aweing over them I finally made the decision to order a couple of items l could afford… Only to find out after filling out the online order forms that Quince.. Does not ship to Canada!😫😢😭 I have ordered from many US companies and even a small Italian watercolour paint maker from Assisi, Italy that shipped to Canada.. Please pass along my inquiry as to why they won’t ship to Canada? It’s not like we are overseas, we are literally closer than your US state of Alaska!😂
I just read that from another Canadian friend in hers, Laurie! That makes me so sad! I am about to send my contact there an email. If you ever really want something shoot me an email - you can ship it to me and I’ll get it to you! Very frustrating!
I know that it doesn’t help right now, but this is my response from Quince (she actually saw a couple of messages about shipping before I was able to email) PS - also saw the comment on shipping to Canada and international shipping is something we are working on expanding to! We don't have an exact timeline yet, but the team is working on it!
Thanks so much Meredith for inquiring for me! That’s so sweet of you to offer to ship to me! Our Canadian Postal service is on strike right now, isn’t that nice, right before Christmas.. I know there are other ways to ship, I would have to inquire about costs from Texas to Alberta to see how cost effective it would or wouldn’t be… I’m also scared about sizing and if the items don’t fit me, then what do I do…😫 I’m right in between sizing, I’m a 16 on the bottom but an 18-20 on the top depending on brands, fit, etc… I also have I un-proportionately big upper arms that make shirts, sweaters, coats, anything with arms, an issue…😂😂 Funny I just had some Kate Spade purses shipped from their outlet in Texas with free shipping…
@ anytime!! I love the Kate Spade Outlet! There is one about 20 min away - that is pretty cool that they ship for free to Canada. I think that Amazon has spoiled me so much that I just don’t like paying for shipping! If I can ever help, I’m happy to- I really hope that they expand to Canada soon- I have had 3 people inquire about it here, so I’m sure that there would be a huge customer base for them. I can totally understand the sizing concerns, too!
@ I have 4 replicas from them. I know some people are turned off by them. I have some designer ones also, but their prices are so high making it harder for me.
I am not a "purse" person. I would rather have something I can put in my pocket. I am not a "phone" person so the phone stays at home most of the time. Mine is a dinosaur and I use it only for emergencies if I remember to bring it.
Embroider, "Big on Style," with the youtube logo. Then you can claim the cost of the bag as a business advertising expense. While the bag is laid back olive canvas I think a golden thread might look nice like the viewer award that youtube gives out to top contributors. Or you could go with black thread to match the strap.
I would never buy logo bags . I bought a beautiful leather bag 20 years ago and have never had to replace any part of it . Cost was thirty pounds then .
I post at 7 right when I get to work, so I go snd respind to them as I have little pockets of time throughout my day. If I like them, they go off of my screen as ‘responded to’
"Does it bring you joy" was the question asked by my therapist when I spoke of my reluctance to buy things for myself. I said, "yes" and she replied, "then that's all that matters". I hugged my Valentino after reading this. Because, absolutely, it gives me joy.
How wonderful that you still have the purse your husband gave you when you guys were in high school. And what good taste he had at that age! The purse is both stylish and high quality.
Isn’t that wild?!? That was in… oh goodness, the Christmas of 2000! It was definitely made of good stuff - and he did a really good job! ❤️

I like the way you presented this.
Big on Style - embroider that!!
That is what I’m going to do!!! ❤️❤️
I've never been much of a bag person but now that I am seeing all these cute bags I think I could change my attitude!
I have always found one that I liked, then carried it for years! I more than doubled what I own with this video - I think it is good to know what is out there! Thank you, Michelle!
Thank you for introducing me to these bags. Love them!!!
I’m so happy that you do, Vickie! I’m very impressed with the quality! ❤️❤️

Thank you I was crying yesterday about having to go through this, but life goes on.
@ I hope that today is a better day!
I was thinking the same thing- it needs Big on Style on there!
I’m going to do it!
My dream bag would be the Birkin bag. 😍
I totally understand why!!
I love leather handbags 🤩

My pick is the Quince YSL bag. It has a quite luxury look.

I'm going to have to think about buying one of these bags.
I was really impressed by them! It is always good to know what is out there!
The Bow Bag! I think the YSL look alike would look great with a nice YLS scarf added.
That is a great idea, Rita, I’m going to look for one!

I had to copy them and paste them but after that they worked.
@ thank you for letting me know!
Quince does not ship to Canada!?
Oh, Susan, that stinks!!! I just went and read the shipping page, because I thought that surely that was a mistake!
@ … I’m pouting over here 😏
I know that it doesn’t help right now, but this is my response from Quince (she actually saw a couple of messages about shipping before I was able to email) PS - also saw the comment on shipping to Canada and international shipping is something we are working on expanding to! We don't have an exact timeline yet, but the team is working on it!
I’m a strange one as I prefer bags without the obvious branding of designer bags, apart from the MJ Tote! I do love a good dupe or bargain!
I think it totally depends on the bag for me- my husband was laughing at the plastic zipper on the Marc Jacobs. For some reason the giant logo just does it for me there 🤣 I am 100% with you on the bargain front!
You should embroider “my” tote bag
Maybe embroider “Big on Style”
I think that may be the winner!
@big on style I always thought this site was “fifteen” in Spanish. Are we sure it isn’t keen-say? Just curious.
I actually asked that, and was told it was pronounced 'Kwins'
Lol
Portland Leather products
My sister in law has a bag from there that is very nice, I need to go check them out!
Why can't I stop oogling that leopard Buc-ees cup????
Right back at you, Jill!! I wish this month would slow down just a little!
“NOT The Tote Bag by Marc Jacobs “ is my embroidery recommendation.
That is Exactly what I initially told Ross! Great minds think alike!
Quince has broken my heart!
I have spent over a year watching all the influencers I follow do Quince try-ons and after looking at all the products on their website, drooling and aweing over them I finally made the decision to order a couple of items l could afford…
Only to find out after filling out the online order forms that Quince..
Does not ship to Canada!😫😢😭
I have ordered from many US companies and even a small Italian watercolour paint maker from Assisi, Italy that shipped to Canada..
I know there are other ways to ship, I would have to inquire about costs from Texas to Alberta to see how cost effective it would or wouldn’t be…
I’m also scared about sizing and if the items don’t fit me, then what do I do…😫
I’m right in between sizing, I’m a 16 on the bottom but an 18-20 on the top depending on brands, fit, etc…
I also have I un-proportionately big upper arms that make shirts, sweaters, coats, anything with arms, an issue…😂😂
Funny I just had some Kate Spade purses shipped from their outlet in Texas with free shipping…
Beautiful bags, TFS.
If you don’t mind replica bags, I have some from COEE. They are gorgeous.
Love the Dooney, their bags age beautifully.
I have not heard of them, I need to look!
I wish that I was a little less attached to my phone! Sometimes I feel like a pack mule with all of the stuff that pack in my purse ❤️❤️
Ok, I love that!! I am going to send this to my husband and have him make the file for me! You are awesome!
A tote bag
Not Marc Jacobs
I like it!!
I would never buy logo bags . I bought a beautiful leather bag 20 years ago and have never had to replace any part of it . Cost was thirty pounds then .
Now that is some major return on investment, Jennifer!!! That has to be a high quality bag, and what a price!!
Light / bright lining. Black is the stupidest color for purse linings because you can't see anything that is inside.
Good point, Keri, I had not even considered that!
The bottom line. No matter the item, You only buy quality ONCE. Perfect example - your Dooney.
Very true! I’ve had to replace some things on it that had excessive wear, but it is nice enough that I was able to do that!
@@BigonStyle and most likely why there is ALWAYS a line at Wal-Mart. and hey! I'm a Houston girl too!
Hey, Houston friend! I’m sad that we’re about to be back in the 70’s!!!
True story on the line at Walmart!
Wow, I’m surprised you don’t like every one of your comments. You only have 37 so far, but you’ve selected only a few to like?
I post at 7 right when I get to work, so I go snd respind to them as I have little pockets of time throughout my day. If I like them, they go off of my screen as ‘responded to’
Trolls gonna troll.
No leather from animals for me.
I can absolutely appreciate that, LaJuana!!
