Thank you, Pablo, for such an excellent interview!! This is by far the BEST interview with Ben Monder I've ever heard. While I appreciate his musicality when I listen to him play tunes like 'My One And Only Love,' listening to him discuss his experiences, philosophy, and musical ideas in such an intelligent and eloquent manner makes me sense where his music is really coming from or going. I'm looking forward to listening to him perform live with the Bad Plus at Monterey Jazz Fes in a few days.
I knew he was gonna mention Leo Brouwer! Now i can sleep well tonight! Goofing aside, these interviews are invaluable, even for people who doesn't know any of these magnificient musicians. Can't thank you enough Mr. Held.
Amazing interview, he is so humble about his work and music, truly inspiring. Surprised that you never heard of Leo Brower Pablo, definitely worth checking out his music!

Beautiful interview! There's so little info on Ben out there, and you really did a good job of getting a view into his process. Do you have the handwritten charts he sent?
Hi Pablo! Great interview, congratulations! On the Bartók question about the Beethoven excerpt. In fact, Beethoven's Fugue in C minor (Op. 131) and Muss es sein? a recognizable version of his motifs (op. 135) is included in movement 2 of I. String Quartet.

Either he quotes a part of the score from the film The Unforgiven in Tredecadrome or he arrived at those notes randomly.
