    ABOUT ME:
I’m a former sugar addict & emotional eater who was known to binge, hated her body, and loathed the number on the scale. Finally, in desperation, I turned that whole mess over to the Lord and He healed me in a way I never thought possible. Now I’m passionate about sharing the message that Christ really can calm our minds, heal our bodies, and transform our health if only we’ll give Him a chance.

Sugar is so destructive. I have battled with such a serious sugar addiction for years. I had failed at so many attempts to stop eating it. I would promise myself I would set standards for myself but I would always fall. I noticed though when I would stop eating it that my severe depression and my mood swings and my irritation and overly emotional episodes would lift in such dramatic ways that I realized sugar was causing all of these issues. I do still suffer from sad or depressing days, but it is in no way on the levels that it can be when I'm over indulging in sugar. It's also a serious migraine trigger for me. But on my own I have constantly failed to kick this incredibly overwhelming addiction. There are times where I don't even want it but my mind wants it, it's that mental addiction to it.
About a year ago I begin a program with the Lord. I cut out sugar and chocolate and caffeine for 6 months, and at the end of that 6 months I allowed myself to have things again but once again it got out of control. So I began to go month by month with the Lord setting a regimen of how many days a month I could have sugar or chocolate or caffeine and giving my word to him that I would stand by this, because when I give my word to myself I WILL FAIL, but I know how serious God is about making vows to him so I give it to him and honestly when I'm doing these month by month regimens I don't struggle like I would if I was doing it on my own. It's amazing. I would love to be able to completely overcome the addiction, because I know that even doing this month by month regiment the last year the addiction is still there, the desires for it when I am able to have it is still there, and that is what I would love to overcome.
on a side note it's interesting because when my husband, who also is seriously addicted to sugar, eats sugar he says that he literally feels a high from it, like it literally makes him physically feel a certain way. I personally do not feel like that when I eat sugar.
But sugar in itself is so destructive to our bodies and I know this, and even the chocolate, like you said, yeah it's a real problem.
Thanks for making this video and sharing your story because it is a very real thing and it is incredibly hard to overcome any type of addiction, even food.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I related to every single word you said. Who could ever believe we could battle so powerfully with something simple like sugar? For so many of us, it's destructive and overpowering just like you said. It's mindblowing how we keep going back, even after we see how it's destroying us. The pull of addiction is real. But thankfully, the pull of the Lord is stronger. I'm so thankful you've felt His strength and how He can help you. Blessings to you as you continue to walk this path! I know He'll be with you every step of the way!!

Oh I know exactly what you’re talking about! For me, it’s not just sugar it’s carbs as well. But when I’m at my lowest is when I hit the sugar and then I cannot get enough I’ve been in 12 step programs for probably 40 years as long as I work them and I work the steps. I keep the weight off and I stay off the sugar and the carbs, but now I want to do it with Christ with a 12 step program and I’ll be damn if I’m gonna say I am a food at it or a sugar attic because our words are powerful. I want to say I’m a child of Christ that has issues with sugar and flour and I want the strength to come from Christ only and I want to learn how to do this so that I can share it with other Christians, so I’m gonna look into this. Right now I have five days of abstinence and it’s by the power of Christ but by the support of the 12 step program on the phone for food addicts anonymous. But I want to rely on Christ not food addicts anonymous what makes it work for me the support of the people that understand what I’m going through that have lived it themselves. this is for me if I’m truly sincere about helping others I’m not going to charge them to get started $40 is a lot of money for the first book and I don’t even know if it will work for me or from going to want to use it the 12 step program is free. Why is your program not free? I’m tired of people making money off this disease or whatever you wanna call it!

I’ve been listening to your podcast I just finished season 2. I can’t begin to tell you how jaw dropping this has been for me. I’m in ReGen a recovery program that is available y through our church. It covers a multitude of possible reasons to join. My was body image and bulimia. The bulimia is a by product of my sugar addiction. Until I found your podcast I had not heard that sugar addiction is a real thing. I’m going to start taking your classes. I may purchase the book and try and read that first. I had no idea there was other people who have my sugar addiction. I was always the girl who wanted the end piece of the cake with the most frosting. Praise God I discovered you. The amount of material you have is incredible. You have put your heart and soul into helping others. Thank you! ❤️🙏❤️

I had never seen that book "Potatoes not Prozac" As I started reading it, the thing that bothered me a LOT was that it keeps emphasizing the sugar sensitivity is not our fault. It even says alcoholism isn't your fault. If this if FAITH based coaching. I think God would say that Alcoholism and Gluttony are sins. I understand that sugar is addictive and has an drug like effect on our brains, but so does sex etc. So it still comes down to self control although I have noticed that nearly cutting out sugar for me, will stop the intense cravings for it and make me feel more satisfied with less food. Our flesh (whether physical or spiritual or both) definitely drives us to sin, that is for sure.

    • @JaciWightman
      @JaciWightman  ปีที่แล้ว

Interesting views, thank you for sharing. 🙂I think, for me, the sin wasn't so much that my body got addicted to sugar, it's that my heart chose to turn to it for deliverance instead of turning to the Lord. I made it my idol and my savior whenever I had a hard day. That was the biggest area of repentance for me. Once I dealt with my heart's spiritual infidelity, my flesh was much less inclined to drive me to that sin, but to God instead. ❤

My doctor put me on a very strict sugar detox, it was so painful the withdrawal I had a 3 day migraine, was dizzy, weak and cranky!! They made me give up all sugar including tropical fruits, honey and maple syrup. I crumbled and couldn't keep doing it. It was too much too quick. I like your approach so much better.

I meant to write a quick thank you for this. Then the Lord put the following words on my heart. --
Thank you for this inspiring message. You are a very special person & Im sure your family all know it! Sugar is a drug.
Father in Heaven, we ask for your shield of protection against Satan’s attempts to have us unhealthy & overwhelmed. We know we cannot do this life thing without you & saying no to our sugar addiction feels beyond our control. But we know that nothing is beyond your control! Please carry and lift those of us who know we cannot do this on our own. Please quiet our minds throughout our busy days and exhausted nights. Lord, remind us to spend quiet time with you so that you can fill us with your Holy Spirit. Please protect us, our families, our homes, our neighborhoods & schools from the evil one who seeks to destroy our hearts & minds. Direct and to the point is how you made me God so I ask that you fill us all with your Holy Spirit so that we do not want sweets anymore. Help us to walk away & turn to you only. In Mathew 4:4, we read that Jesus said that ‘Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ Please help us to remember that daily. If we have not filled our hearts with your words and follow your commandments, then we are weak to those temptations called “addictions”. We know that sugar is a drug. It does horrible things to us physically and mentally once the “high” wears off. We cannot beat this alone. We need you now. We will continue to pray to you as you answer our prayers. We do not expect immediate results lord but we would really be overjoyed if it happened! Our hearts are full of joy and gratitude for hearing our pleas for release of this addiction. We only need you, and praise you for leading us all here with your loving hands. Father, we ask for a hedge of protection to be placed around us when it feels like our world starts closing in on us, when a family member is unhappy or needs something, Lord help us to remember to give it to you. We are your children but we tend to want to FIX everything and everybody and if we don’t….. we have guilt! We know that is not from you! Thank you for removing the blinders from our eyes to see this & take the first step. We ask these things in Jesus’s name, Amen. ♥️♥️♥️♥️ (I have a lower A1C level now. God helped me to be totally satisfied with 1 serving & fruit options for a treat. I fell down on my knees literally, on a cold winter day with no job & teens who were not handling the school at home well).
Give this all to God the Father, Son & Holy Ghost. Just talk to him like you would your Grandpa. You don’t have to have eloquent fancy speech. He knows you & made you perfectly!

I believe it’s actually a key place to come to - to finally admit like you said that you can’t control it, and that you honestly can’t overcome it on your own. Honestly, often the Lord can’t really do anything until we fully admit that. Cause it’s then that we’re finally willing to stop trying to fix it and just hand the whole mess over to Him. 🙏

I've prayed for help on this -- with NO answers.. and I'm about ready to do my uncles solution. We were working in the tobacco field one day and he asked if I smoked or anything, and I said NO. He shoved a tobacco leaf in my mouth and it made me so sick I thought I'd die. I've NEVER been the least tempted to smoke or any of that. I've since used that on other things. I think I'll buy a bunch of JUNK- Little Debbie and I may have a fling this weekend. If i eat enough to make me sick- I won't want it again.. Maybe that will work. I AM a sweet addict -- SUGAR is MORE of an addiction than any drug. You're RIGHT- don't need any stupid STUDIES... it's truth. I know the WORD is truth- and I know He heals- but I've asked for help- and NOTHING-- so maybe I'm suppose to solve this myself..

If I think about learning more for myself, I just feel bad because my husband and son eat a lot of sugar and my husband does not want me commenting on what he eats. But I must have junk food in the house at all times for him. But why can't I just think about myself without worrying about them.

Julie, I had the exact same experience. I wanted change for them too, plus I didn’t think I could do it with all their junk always in the house. But the Lord had me focus on healing myself first. It really is possible so to His help! ❤️🙏 In this video, I talk a lot more about the family issues: th-cam.com/video/5km2amGQlBI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tFjDWHdy5JB1uS8q

I relate. I worry about my family too, and I am praying for them a lot, as I believe it’s generational. It also seems to be an issue on my husband’s side. None of my family are believers yet, so I often feel really alone! God has been getting me to fast a lot, (intermittently) but this has been a massive struggle for me. The fasting is still really difficult for me, even a year and a half later! However, I am feeling like less sugar, so I believe my taste buds are changing, slowly. We can do this in Jesus’s name. ❤️

actual brain science studies - in human and animal models - show that sugar is highly addictive. that is - for those who are addiction-susceptible. about 1/3 of people are not addiction susceptible (to sugar, illicit drugs, or any other substance or activity), about 1/3 of people are medium-level susceptible and about 1/3 of people are highly susceptible to addiction. I realized that even though I am not “fat” I still worship food. The Holy Spirit had been poking me about it but I thought it was me just over thinking and being too spiritual. It was confirmed through this video that I am disobeying by way of my thoughts about food sugar especially I center my days around food chocolate bar every night. Thank you so much for this video

I do CARNIVORE now-- medically- can't eat anything else.. without getting sick- breathing issues- terrible pain etc. No grains, no fruits, no veg, no dairy (even though dairy is ON the approved list for carnivores -- my system can't handle it).. but the carnivore helped a lot-- and helped in a FEW things-- the pain is almost gone-- and I breathe well- but havn'et lost any weight at all- over a year.. I thought IT would lead to NO addiction to sweets-- but so far- NO LUCK.

Honestly David, even after 20 years of walking this road and eating clean, I can tell that my body will always be addictive with sugar. I’m like an alcoholic with alcohol, only it’s with chocolate 😌 But the Lord has shown me how to stay “sober” if that makes sense. Carnivore may be a part of His plan for you, so just keep following His lead. ❤️

@@JaciWightman ME too -- Unfortunately- I was an only child for first 10 years on this planet and my folks were always 'rewarding" me or bribing me with JUNK unfortunately...ha.. I did eat what WAS considered healthy food too- loved my veg, meats, and all that- then found out my body can't process SOMETHING right so using CARNIVORE- and if it doesn't start working soon- I'm going to add suff back in one item at a time and see if it was somehting ELSE causing the issues.. BUT sweets and chocolate are stuck to me like glue. NOW- I have used FASTER EFT and got rid of allergies and more- so I'm using that on this now- and it seems to help a LOT.

I focused my recovery on sugar at first. Once I had that under control, I had to look at all the ways I use food to cope (even including healthy food). It definitely took time and a lot of the Lord’s grace! 🙏💗

I know, I went through the very same thing. Just remember that you don't have to fix it all at once. Start with yourself. Rely on the Lord, let Him help you slowly make some small changes. The Bible warns us about " their god...is their belly ...and their swift end destructtion...." paraphrased.... the Bible warns us to steer clear of junk food ... to eat healthy...Daniel in the Lion's den...young men in the Bible ate fruits and vegetables not from the wicked King's table.... sugar and junk food is idolatry!!!!!!😮

Im sorry but your story does not sound like God delivered u... it sounds like u had to work a lot and do something that a lot of people cant do! Im not saying that the Lord didnt help u, buy the Lord is able to deliver people without programs.. and without making us pay money for it!
If u received healing free, u would give it free...but this is bussines for u and I dont think thats ok..
What u are saying- "u need to find a program and pay for it because God will help u go trough this"
    That sounds very wrong..
God is not a respecter of persons and also He is able to deliver us for real

Hello 😊 Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. I understand these issues can be very real. I actually provide tons and tons of free content both on TH-cam & in my podcast because I know for many of us, money can be tight. I wish it could all be free but it costs me $ to host my website and my podcast, which are my tools to share the message of healing in Christ. Also, I see your perspective on needing to buy a program, but personally, I knew if that’s what I really needed, the Lord would provide the $ for me to do it. Also, I know some are instantly healed of their addictions, but I was different. Like an alcoholic slowly finding sobriety through Christ, my story took more time and patience. Prayers for you on your continued journey to find true health 🙏💗
