Happy spooky season! I love that you included books that aren't just straight horror or thriller. I don't read a ton of either of the genres, but the most terrifying book I've read was A Kingdom of Needle and Bone. It's one of those that isn't that scary as you read it, and then you find yourself lying in bed, unable to sleep because you are thinking about the ENTIRELY PLAUSIBLE scenario posited in the novella. Or maybe that's just me, hahah.
Oh I've heard of that! By Mira Grant, which is a pseudonym for Seanan McGuire if I'm not mistaken. I've heard good things, I might have to get it on kindle. I love a novella occasionally. Reading a whole book in one setting is so satisfying lol
@@ShipwreckedLibrary Yes! Mira Grant is Seanan McGuire. I love the Mira Grant stuff because she researches the crap out of the science. So everything under that name isn't necessarily probable, but it IS possible. Which is terrifying if you think about it for too long. The novella is kind of told in a weird way. Much more narration than I was really expecting. Like, not a ton of action and a lot of telling us what happened. I think it worked fine for the story, but was definitely different than what I'm used to. And I love reading a book in one sitting. I feel so accomplished. 😂
I immediately bought blindsighted from Abe books 😂. Have you seen John Dies at the End movie? I didn't even know it was a book 🤯 ooo darkness, takes my hand sounds awesome as well! Great video!
I have seen the movie!! I LOVED the movie, which prompted me to get the book and I gotta say, the book covers WAAAAAY more. It's really good, probably up your alley. I hope you like Blindsighted! That book THREW ME.
Hi! [throwing you a comment] I just bought The Only Good Indians! House of Leaves has such a beautiful cover (I want it to read like a 'pick your own adventure' now =) I got The Troop a while back when you told me about it! I love getting in that spooky vibe when I'm dranking all alone on cold nights. The Guest Book has me so intrigued! Imma scoop that up too! Thanks for the recommends! =D
Hi Rachel! I just found your channel! I just started reading thrillers and am kind of obsessed. So Far I’ve read Ruth Ware and Riley Sager, so I’ve been looking for new recommendations. I am trying to venture into horror also. I just finished Mexican Gothic and am currently reading Birdbox. I’ll have to check out some of these titles. I look forward to seeing more of your content and chatting with you about books! Subscribed to your channel to support other small booktubers 😃😃📚
Wow thank you so much!!! I've been subbed to you for a little too (I have been getting really into fantasy booktubers!!!) so this is really cool!! Did you like Mexican Gothic?? It was one of my faves but I think it was super polarizing for a lot of people!
@@ShipwreckedLibrary I’ll be honest: I wasn’t a huge fan of Mexican Gothic. I don’t know what it was that I didn’t connect with. And thank you for the support 😄
Love this video. Solid reviews and recommendations. So much good stuff. I should mention that you likely got your love of body horror at a young age: Hellraiser, Tetsuo, Tokoyo Gore Police ...
i hate scary books bc they make me cry, but i’m here to support! i really need to read mexican gothic NOW!!! i tried ninth house a few months ago, but i couldn’t get into it. i stopped at 30%, but i didn’t dnf, i just decided to put it away for later.
If you don't like scary books, Mexican Gothic is PERFECT. It leans way heavier on atmosphere and suspense and creepiness than it does outright horror. I loved it. i don't blame you for dnfing Ninth House either, that book really isn't for everyone. I'm almost worried on my second read I wont like it as much HAHAH
@@ShipwreckedLibrary Im gonna put it on my TBR for next year since I’m jammed full for this winter and I want to be able to buy the physical copy cause it looks amazing!
House of Leaves has sat on my shelf for years...and years. I just can't bring myself to read it for some reason. Not scared of the story, it just looks like a chore to read it. :)
AHAHA You're not even wrong! I was just telling my friend how I want to reread it but its such a commitment. I think it's worth it, but it definitely is not an easy read and you gotta be in the mindset for it for sure
Damn. I am totally sold on The Troop.
YES. It is such an epically gross story that I know I will read it a third time just because of how nasty it is
Oooh spooky books🎃💀Love your glasses by the way!
Omg thank you :' )))) They were cheap and that's why i loved them
Ok the Karin Slaughter sounds like TOO MUCH. TOO SPOOKY. But John Dies at the End sounds amazing so... you're forgiven I guess.
John Dies at the End is DEFINITELY worth it, has a perfect blend of horror/humor if you're not TOOOOO into spooky stuff!
the one dislike on this video is from the director of the bye bye man
