The only reason democrats are upset is because this makes it so much less controversial when Trump pardons all the January 6 defendants.
I am not sure how he can pardon all of them because most of them already took plea deals and no longer have cases. Biden got in the way of him pardoning them when they needed to be pardoned by winning the last election. One of them got 22 years but the rest were only in custody a very short time period or just paid fines
