  • Lets have a look inside the Freestyle Libre Sensor and what goes on inside. I've been using the system for about 10 months and think it definitely the future of glucose measurement.

    I have not done this ever. I like libre as it has eliminated frequent finger pricking from my life. which is very painful. Gradually I found libre is incomplete without a cgm device as every time scanning the sensor is not easy. I found Blucon Nightrider a third party cgm device which gives me sensor's reading every 5 minutes without scanning the sensor. Most important which I felt that every diabetic would like is that alarms. Blucon saved me on various occasions when my BS went too low and the sound alarms woke me up from sleep. Thanks to Blucon and libre sensor

    Thanks for the video, I am using the NightRider with the LinkBluCon and there is no need to scan the sensor any more. I get reading updates every 5 minutes, alarms, and food insights. Food insights help me know how food I had impacted my glucose in next 3 hours, it helps me in choosing the right food. Also, all the premium features in the LinkBluCon app are free.

    I believe that Freestyle Libre 14 day is a snapshot reader-triggered measurement. The reader detects the trend (hence the arrows) to generate a graph based algorythm. The rise angle between previous scan can create false sense (based on my engineering statics 101 training) can throw the streight line flattening of the graph versus time.

    Good teardown video.
    Maybe you could try a small amount of petrol around the unit's seal. Wait 5 minutes and see if that helps opening on the sensor body.
    I use this method on opening wallwart power supplies and laptop power supplies with great results. I just use a few drops out of my 4stroke lawn mower can.😁

    The other good thing about the meter that came with wifey's sensor (sample) is that you can buy regular sticks over the counter @ Walmart pretty cheap. We've got a problem with insurance not allowing any prescribing of sticks or her original meter over 3 / day, and since she's on a dual therapy, she needs 5 or maybe more / day.
    Prime example of what annoys me the most. Anyway we can afford the OTC sticks to close out the shortage whether she gets this or not. Now checking what amount the INS will cover. This one leaves them no room for cover since they time out at a certain number of days, so they can't prescribe it all if they don't cover it fully.

    • @lightnthings5541
      @lightnthings5541  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The battery still has heaps of charge left after the 2 weeks, sensor expiry is done artificially either through the reader or sensor.
      Reuse is mainly limited by the fact that you can't re-insert a used sensor (not that you'd want to), the electrode part that goes into the skin also may degrade and be less effective after the 2 weeks.

    We have had one (wifey uses it) sampled to her by a doc. When we installed it it bled out of the weephole quite a bit. When we quizzed the doc about it bleeding, he said that it should not bleed at all. No idea how a spike this deep wouldn't bleed. I've personally had much shallower spikes (metal shavings, etc.) that stuck me on my foot and it got to blood. This thing goes in at least 3/4 as deep as her injector pin does.
    Anyone have that happen? what to do? Next time I'll have the video going to show the doc anyway. He claimed a lot of patients and no blood. I a doubting it.
    Will have to tear up the one we have and see if there's any hacking possible. Wish foone had one to get doom running on it :-)
