Speaking of Youngblood. I love coop games like this. But there just has to be more to the game rather than a fairly linear story with a semi-open level design. I super enjoy playing a game with missions and quests, and either starting a lobby to have someone join me and help me along, OR, if I'm a higher level, joining randos to help them along. The idea of a big online community coming together to help each other do missions, clear dungeons, etc, despite playing with randos, is really fun. In my time playing Monster Hunter World (before other games sidetracked me), I played a huge chunk of the game on my own, solo. Then I got stuck. At that point, I asked for help via the flare system. In comes a dude that's clearly at least a little stronger than me, and together we fucked up the Monster I was working on. We emoted in celebration, then parted ways. I wish more games did that. I would love to see more games adopt the "optional" coop idea. Have coop turned on, be able to put up signs in a lobby area asking for help, or send up a flare mid-mission to get other plays in on the quest. So much more immersive and just fun than having a generic lobby system. And way more fun than banging your head into a wall when you get stuck.(But of course still keep a lobby system in case you wanna play with friends..) Anyone got recommendations for games with that kinda coop? Only one I can think of off hand is the Dark Souls series with their glowy summoning markers.
Did Jane and I grow up in the same house? The first first-person shooter in my memory is also either Wolfenstein 3D or Hexen, because my dad plays games and those were on his computer. For the longest time, I didn't even know what Wolfenstein 3D was called, and only remembered the long, pixelated corridors and dog food.

My secret video game theory is that Sonic the Hedgehog and Crash Bandicoot take place in the same universe. Basically, Cortex studied under Eggman and learned all his animal control methods while working under him, but he loved animals too much to turn them into robots and instead went back home and hooked up with Uka Uka to create an animal army in opposition to Eggman's more city-based robot army.

I like when the Doom marine was just a guy, not some supernatural entity. We couldn't all be the Doom guy, but I liked the idea that somebody could rise to the challenge without being a super special creature sealed away in a stone sarcophagus. Also, the demon looking right at us on the box always freaked me out as a kid.

It's absolutely a Beholder. I loved playing Eye of the Beholder on computer when I was young. One of my first games. A truly great experience.
