Steve I have been watching lots of videos where you are one of the drivers, and I must say you really have a handle on your car, from the starting line to wheeling back around..your car launches and accelerates so fast !! I thought I was fast back in the early to mid 80's with my 1st car,a 67 SS Camaro with a 327 I built..it was fast for back then but my god your car and others are so badass ! Keep it up and stay safe ! I am hoping you guys come to Ennis,Texas at the Texas Motorplex sometime so I can check you all out ! Thanks for the awesome video here !
Steve, you forgot one import step in your program. While tossing out the gap band, at about the 1000ft mark you failed to mention “hoss’in” the gas. Hahaha
Lots of people don’t understand how much work is involved to drive one of those things. And the amount of concentration you need to have. Great video. Thanks
This was amazing to watch, never see the whole process before and imagine there are a million other tricks to master to get a good, safe run. Great explanation.
Its alot to take in. Ive never drove quicker then 10.30, ive been around 8.50 cars intimately, and i totally understand this is a process. Although a little long winded, this was an awesome real life description. Also as he indicates, different drivers do different things...i mean, imagine that! Most important to me is when you bump in top bulb, you care less about other lane. U got a job to do. Do your own proven thing going all in, and react. I like what he said about not staring down the tree. Pro tree you stare down the center of the top bulb. If you bracket racing its not much different, but for me stare down the center of the 3rd yellow. Nothing else matters. Im no expert and i enjoyed this video!
You sir are awesome thank you for a great inside look i am a 61 year young man that got into drag racing in 1995 as a photographer. I met a guy with a pro street car we had fun but never got the grasp of there was more to it than go to the track race a bit load up drink beer and go home. In 2004 i hooked up with a boss from work and we won a I.H.R.A. World Championship together. I later was on a funny car team with a 1948 fiat Topoleneo and a JR. Dragster which in 2008 i was awarded a Trophy for crew chief of the year in the Jr. Dragster part of the team. In 2011 i joined a T/A Dragster team and our first run set a track record at home of .98 sixty foot and a 4.98 188 mph in the 1/8 th mile but do to the job thing i had to leave that venture. Hope i didnt bore you but i would love to see more and wish you the best in 2019.
What a great watch and listen to the crazy process you go through. As a former Top Fuel Harley rider, there are a lot of similarities if focus and concentration but you are really busy in that car! I truly appreciate your speaking on focus "way down the track and well beyond the finish line" You go where you look. Thanks for such an interesting and precise presentation!
Stevie , your are a true professional racer. I've lived in Augusta for the past 35 years and have been to the track in Jackson over the years and never seen someone with your professional attitude at the track. You truly can tell you LOVE what you do. I"m a Fire Fighter and I love what I do, so I bet that you feel the same way about racing as I do about Fire Fighting and that is When you love what you do, you will never feel likes its work. YOU ARE THE MAN.
Bar none, that was the longest E.T. in a Pro Mod in a Qtr. Mile run in the history of drag racing, but the most informative. Love your enthusiasm, the sport needs more like you.
I love your attitude about everything..good luck next year.. Hope someone will make a Foxbody promod. The original shadow was my all time favorite car.........
Great for the sport bro!!!! Awesome to have someone taking the time to do this for everyone. I'm sure there are a ton of people who are 'afraid' someone might spot a weakness or give away their 'secrets.' You putting yourself out there and showing everyone what's involved and how much goes into this is the best thing any driver can do. Good Luck this season! Give them all the five finger discount double check!
Incrediblely awsome vid SFJ. I watched you race a couple of times in the past 5-6 years. After taking the time to do this vid...a fan for life. Phillipines in 1945....i was there, lol. Stay safe, drive hard, you're the man.
After watching this I swear my blood pressure and heart rate jumped 50 points. Great info. Only bad part about it is it just makes me want to do it even more. Good luck to you and your team in the future.
This is awesome! This kind of technical stuff is great for fans who want to dig deeper into how these things work and what it takes to drive them. Thanks for taking the time to explain it in depth and not doing an easy 5-minute video.
Thank you Mr. Jackson and team for this, enjoyed it beyond words and a huge thumbs up to the gentleman who asked the question that led up to the video itself 🙏🏻
Great video Steve! That was the longest run in history... LOL Loved every minute of it! It took you 30 minutes to describe probably a 10 or 15 second pass. Really made it understandable. Thanks!

Absolutely incredible, being someone that is building a casual street / strip car and has never been down the track yet this really puts things into perspective. I will now start to educate myself on how to do a proper burnout , safety, improving on my driving skills and proper track etiquette. Really liked this video , you did a great job! You’re my favorite pro mod driver hands down !
Thanks for taking the time to post your videos! Very informative and interesting!! A lot more to it than the average joe will ever know. Congratulations on your recent win and stay safe!
I can and have , sat and watched your videos all day instead of being in the garage like I should wrenching on my junk. Your personality just draws people to you so much. After that burnout video talking about toasting 60 grand worth of motor to win a $5,000 contest, you were instantly my hero! you said "you cant take it with you , so ill blow every damn penny of it". I knew instantly I had found my new 1990's John Force. His interviews won his fans. World champ over and over but still so excited it was like his first top fuel ride ever, talking 100mph and so excited he couldn't even focus. I see a lot of that in you my friend. Someone who truly does what he loves every day of his life. It's no jib you can tell its a whole life. I honestly pray I get a chance to meet you in person someday soon. What a fun guy to watch!!
TUTORIAL???...This is more of a "Documentary" !.....WOW !!!....I RESPECT YOU SIR !!! Warren Johnson could NOT have done a better job...Great articulation and communication skills with spot-on information that I'm sure answered a lot of questions people had been inquisitive about but were afraid to ask. Most fans know you guys are at "work" when you're at the races and find "question(s)" as inappropriate. BTW ...I used to run this class back in the late eighties with a Don Ness Camaro before "Pro Mod" was added under IHRA sanctioning. At that time, The class was labeled as "Top-Sportsman". Pro Mod was added later on to relinquish the "Quick-8" category of Top-Sportsman. Fans wanted to see the Nitrous elites of Top-Sportsman on Sunday, But the Quick-8 shootouts were ran Saturday nights and ALL of those guys was only there for the Quick 8 purse to begin with so they intentionally go out first round Sunday...There goes half of the show right there !!!...Great times 👍👍
Just saw your video.. .. A really great detailed view of what happens in a high powered car. I was hoping to go for my 1st run down the track in 30 years and 25 years before that is when I was racing. A lot has changed in 55 years. Biggest thing is... I'm old! But I am still hopeful to take 1 more run down the track.. Thank you so much for the lesson!
Mr. Stevie Fast... I’m a little late to your video, but that’s awesome! We’ve been trying to get the Pro Mods to Pomona for the finals! Love this format and it needs to be expanded!
One of the very few drivers that actually takes time to answer questions and explain how things are done....others should take notice and follow suit...thanks for the videos
Thanks alot man. Answered alot of my questions. The average racer doesnt think about the small things like making the front end light while burning too much fuel on the starting line. Or how much actually goes into driving one of those things. Seems like yall have it down to a science. Like I said in my previous post, Good Luck next season.
I can only imagine if the chutes don’t open the o sh.t feeling that must be , this video was the best watch I’ve had in years thanks for explaining so much and answered all the questions I had
Stevie, loved your lap tutorial in the Shadow 2.0. Watch a lot of your videos on whatever is spinning around in your head. Congrats on the recent win in Florida.
This video illustrates perfectly why drag racing is the best form of motorsports in existence. Could you imagine a NASCAR, Indy or Formula 1 star taking the time to make a 30 minute video to give fans an inside look at everything they do from start to finish? Drag racers are by far the most fan friendly of all the race car drivers. It is amazing to attend a drag racing event and take a stroll through the pits. You can actually walk right up to the cars and can talk to the drivers. And they embrace the fans, rather than treating fans as a nuisance. It is simply a different world. For anyone that hasn't gone to an NHRA or PDRA event, you owe it to yourself to experience this just once. If you do, you are hooked for life.
This just pooped up in my playlist again. Brilliant video and great description of the complexities involved in driving one of these cars. Top skills . Thanks Stevie 👍
Thanks for "skimming" over, for a half hour, things I never knew I had to think about. And that's just to get to the start line. Next time I'm at the drags I'm going to pay more attention to the driver in the cockpit. Appreciate it. Drive well. 👍🙌
Very cool!!! It’s not what I thought st all!! Man that’s a lot to remember & do right and at the right time!! I’m not a drag racer at all but I enjoy watching it. thank you!!! Dan
Thanks, I really appreciate your explanation. Love pro-mods. They're fun to watch. I started going to drag races over 50 years ago and still like going to see the guys and the machinery.
Great video, having never driven anything like that it is interesting to see the differences from my slow stuff. You did a great job explaining it all. Stevie, I am the guy who came by your pit on the Monday afternoon after the Vegas event and met you for the first time. You really are a credit to the sport and I wish you the best of luck.
Stevie, huge fan. Thanks for always keeping the fans in mind and number one. Can you please talk about safety equipment, belts, suits and helmets. What layer suit and shoes. What brand belts and how are they sowed and how are they mounted. Give us a in depth look at Safety. I feel a lot of ppl Over look this topic. I see it all to often in the Deep South grudge seen. Thanks. Keep the vids coming. P.S. Send me one of your old helmets. So I can see what's it like to go fast lol my car would haul the mail with Stevie fast on board lol
Thanks for your time Stevie!! This was one of the most informative videos I've seen in years! I was actually anxious, heart pounding, ready for you to pull the chutes @29:00! LOL
Thanks for spending the time and all the details. Very very impressive. Good job. I learned a lot about all that is involved in a Pro Mod start up, launch, race and chutes.
All that work, time and effort for seconds of outcome and do it all over again. That's got to be a hell of a ride! I've never been a part of a drag racing crew but I have with a couple of dirt cars. 3/4 midget and a late model and I know how much work goes into them so I have an idea. You definitely have to love or be absolutely obsessed with what you're doing to put yourself thru what it takes!
That was awesome to get to hear and see what it takes to pilot one of these badass rides Steve! Your attitude is great and super easy to understand. I wish I could get the chance just to ride along in a car like this one day. I know I'll never get to drive one haha
Thank you very much for this video Stevie! I didn't know about all the things you talked about and really how much goes on inside that rocket before take off. Really cool to see this and learn a couple things.
good stuff Stevie It's hard to explain what it feels like to people . I will never forget my first time trying to make a pass key word TRY in a Funny Car . You know how people are I wish I could drive that . Well you will know real fast after they strap you in and start that beast up and you said it best this thing wants to EAT you and you have to push the pedal to the floor and hold it. Man you start thinking man what am I doing. you will find out real quick if it's for you or not. I loved it after I stopped freaking out. But it's about the money . Best of luck hope you can keep the money coming in. As they say No Money No funny as Paul Smith would tell me.
Hi Stevie, just fascinating and such a good video. Your explanation was fascinating. I'm in England and have been a Formula 1 fan since I was a kid but with a few trips to Santa Pod so I've seen some good quality racing which I love. I hope that you and your family all stay healthy and safe and that you get some good racing in 2021. T
I love it, talking about experience when things go wrong. knowing when to lift and shut it down, with Stevie Fast!!! so please explain to all of us just WHAT point you consider lifting and shutting the car down. From the man who never ever lifts or ever shuts the car down no matter what haha. Anyone else watch these videos and right before the trans brake lets go my heart is starting to pound like I'm sitting on top of 4000hp about ready to unleash the beast haha I love these videos so much . it would be a dream to feel that launch 1 time. probably more nightmare but damn what an experience it has to be.
Stevie Fast My Uncle is Tony Thorn who has been building motors and racing for the last 30 yrs and he's become really well known nationwide for Grudge and recent No Prep Small Tire Wins. He's never had sponsors other than local here in Dallas and he used to be sponsored by Royal Purple but he says that shit trashes gunks up motors now. Just wanted to thank you for the walk through and i would love a chance to become a pro mod pilot!! I'm looking for a miracle and i think your that miracle Stevie lmk man i would love to get any help possible from YOU!! Love your Aggressive Approach and how well you can hold your composure knowing your fixing 1.00 or whatever 60ft and run a 3.60 something 660 ft! Talk to me man i'd love to get to speak with you
This is what drag racing is all about!! Go back in the pits during races and these guys and gals will come out and talk to you if time allows!! Imagine ANY OTHER type of race car drivers doing this and you’re crazy!! Just won’t happen! Awesome video!👍🏻👍🏻
That was a great run through on the process. When he said he was staging shallow for a good reaction time, that kind of threw me. We always called it staging deep. (Not necessarily deep staged which got people talking bad about you.) Great video, thanks!
Excellent Video. Its good to see you preach safety as it seems to be the most overlooked thing in the sport today. I see it all the time...1000 HP BBC on 3 kits and wearing minimal safety gear. Been a fan since the House of Hook Grudgefest about 10 years ago. Good luck in 2019
I truly appreciate all of you guys questions, compliments, and feedback. It’s one of the reasons I get out of bed in the morning

Thanks, that was awesome. There is a whole lot to master to get a pro mod down the track consistently fast.
Very good detailed insight & information! Thanks so much. I feel lazy driving now!?!
That is IMPRESSIVE!!! Great video.....Who on earth would give this video a 👎 ????
What an awesome look at what it takes to do this at the highest level! Sick video.
Fantastic video. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain your process!
Thank you very much for this video Stevie! I didn't know about all the things you talked about and really how much goes on inside that rocket before take off. Really cool to see this and learn a couple things.
Thoroughly enjoyed
That was super interesting! Thanks a bunch.
What a absolutely great explanation Stevie 💪💪
That pass at the end is badass!
good stuff Stevie It's hard to explain what it feels like to people .
Thanks for the ride !
Talk to me man i'd love to get to speak with you
Thanks for the great stuff you guys do for us
This is what drag racing is all about!! Go back in the pits during races and these guys and gals will come out and talk to you if time allows!! Imagine ANY OTHER type of race car drivers doing this and you’re crazy!! Just won’t happen! Awesome video!👍🏻👍🏻
The King of drag racing 2019 no doubt! Long Live The King!
"...perfume that smells like methanol..." - HA - million $ idea.
Or nitro!
That was a great run through on the process. When he said he was staging shallow for a good reaction time, that kind of threw me. We always called it staging deep. (Not necessarily deep staged which got people talking bad about you.) Great video, thanks!
That was really cool! I always wondered about a lot of this stuff. Thanks for making this video!👍
Excellent Video. Its good to see you preach safety as it seems to be the most overlooked thing in the sport today. I see it all the time...1000 HP BBC on 3 kits and wearing minimal safety gear. Been a fan since the House of Hook Grudgefest about 10 years ago. Good luck in 2019
Great Video Stevie Fast...always one of thr best
STEVIE FAST LEGENDARY !!!!!!
