A salesman was telling about a farmer looking at pickup trucks. He looked at a 1/2 ton and a 3/4 ton and asked why the 3/4 ton cost more. The salesman told him because it can haul more. The farmer looked over both trucks and said,"The box doesn't look any bigger to me".

Family firm used to deliver bagged potatoes to stores, we had 2 utes. 1st one a 1/2 ton, 2nd one a 1ton. We could put 1 1/4 ton's on the 1/2 ton, but just 1 ton on the 1 ton. go figure.
The 1/2 ute was a GM Holden which had close to 600,000KM before the original motor was replaced. The 1 ton ute was a FORD, which had 300,000KM before the motor was replaced.
Both vehicles had a hard life, tho the FORD was the easier more comfortable one to drive/use. Both had a similar sized "box" load area.

Dude. I work a second job at a NAPA store. If that bracket was dry on one side and lubed on the other, you should definitely replace it, if not the whole caliper too. Brackets get distorted by heat so easily, and putting it back on will wear every pad you put in it unevenly. That truck's new enough you can still get a new, non-remanufactured, one. Totally worth it to address it sooner rather than later.

Take a piece of plastic jacketed wire rope and cut off 3/4 to an inch of the jacketing, spread out the wire strands, and then chuck it up in a drill. Makes for a great variable size wire wheel. Be sure to use gloves and guide it with your hand, especially if you make it more than a few inches long.

To clean the floating caliper mount pin bore: Use a strip of emery cloth and slip it between the legs of a small diameter cotter pin and wrap it up to make a flap and put the pin into a drill. Use a cotter pin long enough to reach to the bottom of the blind hole.

I recommend watching south main auto on doing your brakes. The small screw in the rotor shouldn’t be cranked on. It doesnt hurt to remove the caliper from the mounting bracket, clean the pins and lube them. If your in the rust belt use ceramic brake grease between the bracket and anti rattle clips to reduce rust jacking.

To clean out holes I use a short rod 1/2" round and cut a slot in one end (use a hacksaw or thin cutoff disc.) And slide the end of a short piece of Emery tape into the slot and then wrap it around the rod. The other end goes in a drill. You Can vary the length of tape to change the diameter.

Tip of the day; Get a small enough / long enough bolt that goes in the hole, make a cut in the middle of it, like with a hacksaw, then put 1 round of sandpaper on it, tale of it goes on the slot causing it to stay there. Then put the bolt on to a drill and voila you can easily clean that hole..

For the air bags they are actually designed to be stretched out they just don't want to be blamed if they break during lifting. And with the caliber brackets you can remove them separately from the caliper itself making changing pads and rotors much easier. Clean out the slide pin holes with a drill bit that just barely fits in the hole.

They don't help braking directly. They help when using the brakes with heavy loads or for extended periods of time. Keep gases from being trapped between the pad and rotor. Also help to dissipate heat in the rotor. You wouldn't notice the difference in most situations. Calipers would clamp better but doesn't help with heat fade at all.

Best way to clean out a dead-end hole, get a piece of round stock (something smaller than the hole), cut a slot in one end (top), put a piece of long-ish emery cloth in the slot you cut and wrap it around like you would a weed eater cord, put it in a drill and go to town.

How do you clean that hole? Try a 20 gauge shotgun bore brush.......should work great.

It's also a good idea to replace the soft brake lines as your truck ages. Had what I thought was a stuck caliper turned out the brake line started deteriorating on the inside and the inner lining was acting like a check valve locking the bakes on that wheel. If your caliper over heats rebuild or replace, it will not last long afterwards.

The line support brackets will rust between the steel and rubber and yep acts like a restriction or check valve.

Brass gun cleaning brushes are a great thing to have in the shop. A .22 brush does great cleaning female trailer plugs..

I really hope that you have better luck than I did with you rotors and pads. I can't stand them anytime I drive down a gravel road they squeak until I pressure wash them. I have put the anti squeak on them and no difference. It just packs the dirt in the slots.
Glad you all are feeling better my family is going through it now. I pray I'm on the downhill side.

quick advise for cleaning the inside of where the sliding pin for the brakes goes.
use a 200 grit sand paper take a bolt that has some room to move in there. make a horizontal cut in it about as long as the hole is deep. put the sandpaer in the cut wrap it around the bolt. stick the other side into a batterie power tool. and boom turbo cleaning. works really well ben doing it for years and never had an issue. dont forget to grease it afterwards

Now that's clever. I have been buying wire pipe cleaners used for cleaning inside of copper pipes fittings before soldering. I cut the handles off and put the wire brush into a battery drill. They come in a variety of sizes.

Hey Nick, Another thing you should do is a full brake fluid flush. It will help improve braking power. You can even buy a Motive Products brake bleeder. Great video.
