    I’m brand new to felting and got a basic online kit from my children for Christmas. This is the first video I watch and I think this is exactly the craft I’ve been looking for. I am a weaver and I have tried spinning (not my thing), but looking forward to trying this. My budget needs to recover but I love these nomes.

    Thank you for doing this. I am working on a robe out of a wool blanket for my son. I'm using a photo of him spinning fire and the way you did the gnome is going to be helpful . I've never felted before, so I'm encouraged to try this. :c)

    Hi! I've been off doing the acrylic pouring scene and being a little resinista for the last 12 months, Now I'm ready to go back to felting. It feels good to be back watching your videos and getting so inspired. So, I guess I'll unpack the shed and see what I still have then start ordering supplies from you again. But, your knome video is what did the trick. Thank you for such beautiful work!

    This is such a good video! Thank you for taking the time to do this. I am having some issues with the needle holes showing through the design. Is there a way to get rid of that? Would washing this hurt? I want it to look the best for when I give it as a present. Thanks!

      Hi Miranda, thanks for this question. On a well felted item, needle marks can be minimized by doing the last 10% - 20% of felting with a very fine needle such as a 42 Triangle. If you can bruch your hands across the piece and the fibers rough up...it is not felted enough...so keep felting.
      Once all fibers are compacted...on a "flat" 2D felt, you can steam press it with an iron. That should really help with needle marks.
      MOST OFTEN, we see needle marks in a piece that is not felted enough. When it is well felted, it just needs a good working over with the finer needles.
      The fibers you work with do play a role. Straighter, finer fibers can be a bit trickier to needle felt as the needle has a challenge grabbing and interlocking the fibers. Our MC-1 is short and crimpy, and needle felts very well.
      You can wet felt a needle felted piece...but we still recommend that all fibers are compacted first so they do not smush out when you wet them and mess up your design proportions.
      We do not recommend the washing machine UNLESS you planned for this in advance. See our #pumpkinspicetablelinens video

      I hope this helps!

    Could you use a water soluble sheet...the pattern is simply traced on it. Then needle felton top, Soak the finished project in cold water, which dissolves the sheet, and then just tack any little bits if neccessary. The cutting apart of pattern pieces like that seems a bit laborious.

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Give it a go! :) We suggest making a small test piece first to see if you like the result. Cutting out the pattern took less than 10min :)

      LivingFelt ahh, I was thinking of more intricate patterns with this technique. Cutting out the pieces just seems laborious. Transferring patterns to wool to needle felt seems like an area ripe for further exploration. By the way, How thick is that felt sheet?

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@occipitalneuralgia2339 Definitely! It is 1mm thick.

      Hi Kathy! We did not get that far, but really just stretch out the white where you want it and needle felt it down nice and flat. We started with the mound under the gnomes feet, and made sure to have snow in front and back of the tree. :) Have fun!
