G'day from Tasmania mate👍🏻. I'd never heard of Puha until a couple months ago.. when I saw the fresh plant I couldn't believe I've had it growing in my back yard for years and just been chucking in on the compost heap.. Have a patch specifically for it now. Just about time for a boil up😎
Thank you Rubber and his master, this is best identification of puha on yourube. much appreciated. now I can heat the pot of brisket and doe boys up and have a feed. Awesome neighbour.
Awesome mate. Love watching your channel catching fish or doing a boil up mouth watering goodness 🤤 😅 yeap you'll probably wont see the young generation strolling the banks picking puha unless they were brought up doing tht. looks lovely mate
Kia ora bro, I have never seen anyone else out picking puha or watercress. It's crazy with the amount of Māori living here .. and the price of kai.🤷🏽♂️
@@WekaDigitalMediaNZ I agree with you Mike unbelievable the price of things. Awww shame our ppl don't go out and look for wild vegetables. I was brought up on the farm mate my best memories growing up as a young maori boy was going with my mother on the farm while she picked watercress puha as my father was a shepherd one of those typical maori families mate boil ups fried bread tatakau bread Rewena bread wild pork venison eel trout rabbit hare young flappers right before they're ready to fly and I tell you bro they are delicious flappers better than any chicken brought from the shops and of course living on the farm mutton and beef but such a shame most ppl now are so used to the convenience of our produce wrapped up ready to go awesome stuff you do Mike 👍
What amazes me is that if I go out in my own yard in California or anywhere in nature, I see all the exact same plants. Not just the ones you are calling Puha but all of them. The buttercups, fennel, cleavers, blackberries, and even the giant grasses.I see one plant in your video that grows here too that you keep walking by that is called solanum nigrum, sometimes called black nightshade. The next time you are out in nature can you get a few close ups of that plant, especially the flowers and how big they are compared to your finger? Also, buttercups have an oil on their skin that causes some people like me to get a rash, so I'd be careful pulling edible plants out of buttercup patches or placing them on top of them. I do that very carefully, without touching the buttercups.
@@WekaDigitalMediaNZ Māori food reminds me of American holiday food. that's very similar to what we make for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Being from California I grew up with a lot of Hawaiians, Samoans, and Tongans, but have never tried Māori food it looks great bro, need to visit NZ and try it, much love
I love my puha after the third boil and the juice unbelievable thats the best strained slightly add mussels onions anything really I'm in Melbourne and I'm going to find me puha/watercress either way I'll get it!
Kia ora Mike. Awesome to watch your videos brother. Sunday mission now. Go out and gather some puha for a pork and puha boilup for Sunday night dinner.
Puha is a seasonal green winter crop and is there for a healthy nutritional food source in the cold months. Everything grows seasonal for a purpose like citrus for vitamin C also in winter.🙂
@@kristinreign8026 yep or milk thistle. id always grab some. Aussie's wouldn't touch it, wouldn't trust me😂 after seeing people selling bunches for $5 back home i said this stuff is like gold 😂
There is no Puha in Auz but there is similar to what's in NZ. Hence the reason they call it thistle etc. Yes it is expensive to buy here in NZ Aswel as watercress rip off best to go out & pick ya own if U can find the right spots 😆
You are so lucky to be able to gather puha and watercress etc. I have to buy watercress, baby spinach and cabbage in my boil up. I know that watercress and puha grows in the mountains and even the subtropics but I haven't found it in the Mediterranean climate in the hills near me in Australia. Also, were those other plants Italian parsley and dill or fennel?
@@WekaDigitalMediaNZ Cool. I would so haven't that I make a really nice fennel and chilli leafy green salad. But I am the only one in my household who eats fennel Also, searing the pork and adding garlic would make that boil up so tasty! 🤤😋 Can't wait for your next boil up or any cook up video 😊
Yum!!! Looks delicious, Mike! For me personally, my all-time favourite boil-up is whichever one I'm eating in that moment 🤣 I can't even imagine eating that right now though... it's been around 40°C here for the past 2 months 😭 How were those sausages? They looked really good
It is indeed hard work eating a warming 'boil up' in summer Nicole, I rarely do that lol. I like the pork and watercress sausages more than the pork and puha. Can taste the watercress and it goes well .... well enough that I might do a cook up somewhere for a video of its own.
Nice mike have found pork and puha and pork watercress sausages at pack and spend so I'm keen to try them as I have never had a boil up looking forward to a taste test lols , cheers , shaneo, nelson, 👍
Yarmmyyy pork an puha😋😋😋 and on a lovely winters day. The roast veggies looked great to! I would imagine it had that nice roast flavour rather than boiled in the pot👌👍awesome feed I'm going puha hunting now! Lol cheers Mike looking forward to your camping trip... have a great day.
Something different ay Lisa? I think there was better flavour from roasting the veges than boiling.. way sweeter. Plus the puha and meat was more flavoursome. I could be on to a winner 😬😅 Good luck with the gathering!

We eat the nightshade to but before they flower
Always great to see you out and about with Rubba and then enjoying your efforts with a good meal.

Tonnes in Australia, huge bunches
