Hi Gringopig, Thanks for picking up a LIONHEART-LOUDPEDAL ,doing a great video and your kind comments! We appreciate it when people take the time to do honest reviews of products they have purchased themselves! Keep up the good work! One thing about your comment on the BOOST switch, you correctly point out that it functions in the same way it would if it were a conventional amplifier. When you change from one channel to another the status of the boost does not change. This is one of the reasons why we made the LIONHEART-LOUDPEDAL midi equipped. To have complete control over all the switchable features on the LIONHEART-LOUDPEDAL use your pedal as part of a midi enabled looper/switching setup and use MIDI CC commands to switch whichever switchable features on the pedal you want active with a single button press. Total control over everything you could want to switch. This is exactly how Tom (Q) uses it in his rig. Have fun.
Ha! I knew there was a clever way to use it. MIDI is so useful. I'm a simple guy though and pushing 2 switches isn't the end of the world lol. Best thing about the loud pedal is the sound. Very valve like. Plus made in the UK. Big selling point for me that! Thanks for the comment! ❤️❤️❤️
@LaneyAmplification It's a lovely little bugger that eats most of the competition for a snack for sure, particularly the mad things at Tonex etc....congrats!
Hello good morning! One question... is it possible to use that pedal directly to an audio card? like a focusrite? Or does it only work as an amplifier going directly to some speakers? I have that doubt especially because of the fact that it has a power amp inside. Thank you!
Yes. You can use it both as a line out with cab sim IR to an interface or directly as stereo to DAW via USB C with one channel behind direct and one channel being preamp. Not got that function to work yet though.
@@markbteeps you certainly can. It's not like a valve amp where it sounds better at loud volume with the valve output section compressing and adding to tone, it's a class D power section so just goes loud only. The tone is in the preamp section. So easily tamed at home
@@gringopig great, thanks for sharing your experience with this. I'm in a rabbit hole of many nice looking Laney amps now, trying to figure out which one is best.
I know the feeling! I wasn't looking to buy one until I tried it. It sounded like a nice valve amp and I liked the portability and the fact you don't have to worry about blowing valves or have them shatter in the neck of a car lol. I'd say to try them before you buy as only you know what you like!
Hoping for a Tony Iommi signature Supergroup Loudpedal. This sounds good though. Convenient form. Thanks for the demo! Very thorough exploration of its sounds.
If you want the Black Sabbath sound, Laney is still making their Supergroup amps, including a 3W tube version which has a reactive load built in, so you can use it without a speaker.
Have you noticed that when you put stuff in the FX loop that the overall volume drops? I put some pedals in the loop for the first time today and the volume dropped like 3db or so.
Seems I was right about mentioning the boost on the unit could be problematic unless the user hooks up midi switching when using it on stage live, the usual Charlie stuff I suppose at such a level? I've got lot's more friendly jokes if you're interested?
@@Iamjeffhingpis ah well yes they are different things. The Friedman is a preamp whereas the Laney is a 60 Watt amp. It can be used alone just plugged into a cab. You would need a power amp with the Friedman or go straight to desk. Plus they are differently voiced. I like Friedman stuff but I haven't used the IR-D so I can't say really. Try both!
Quite convincing piece of gear, Paul ! That said, I admit stompboxes with plenty of knobs and buttons can make me dizzy. Yet they also help us to keep on keepin' on, and not murdering our neighbour. Which is good.
Honestly feels like a valve amp. It's got a bounce about it that I associate with valve amps and after 10 minutes you forget the sound is coming from something so compact! Plus it's really loud lol. Luckily controllable at home though. It's got a headphone out for silent playing but I've not tried that yet.
Yeah there was bleed. I tried to do selective muting but gave up lol. I did another with no chatter to make up for it. I wondered when that would be spotted lol 🤘❤️🤘
Ha ha no worries lol. I'll have to do it another way next time. The no talking video gives a better sound with both mics on the cab. Always look forward to your videos 🥇❤️🤘
That's a lot of work for sure. I was going to do it but I get ants in my pants sitting doing editing. I was busy chopping up the vocal mic track then thought F* it lol. I would have got away with it too had it not been for you pesky kid! Haha 😆
Seems as if they forgot the importance of the boost function getting in the way switching mid flight on this unit, great alternative though to keeping it lighter than lugging around any heavier real deal, I think the reverb is good for most tones available via it's main function, it's a good size and looks robust etc, I reckon they've captured it's ability to replace most smaller tube-types with it pretty well, in these days of modellers it's still fairly limited without hooking up additional toys via the platform which tends to somewhat disturb the potential for particularly live use, fun unit though if left as a set and forget. I wonder what the alternative model sounds like too, especially for the harder tones if preferred.
Yes the boost is an oversight I think. Hard to switch between roaring boosted solo and back to clean. The upside is that it's simple and built like a tank, has an FX loop and has got onboard reverb. I suppose you could just set the gain channel to be louder as a boost and use the guitar volume too. I'm not a fan of menus and scrolling so having everything as an actual knob turn is cool. I was told the other one is higher gain. I was offered a chance to try it but I just like the tone of the Tom Quayle one. 👍🐷👍
@@gringopig Thanks for sharing it with anyone considering acquiring one, it is a very fine unit indeed, one of the more accurate tube-type for sure, nice playing too btw. 🏆..you'd never believe what I'm playing via to scare the crap out of the big boys, they want my secret sauce settings and gear revealed, -I wish them luck!

You could maybe make a vid fully exposing why it's more important to listen with ears than eye's...some seem to have missed that bit??? blind tests sort the girls from the boys pretty quickly ...in an instant actually! 👍
The other problem with most modellers and pedal boards these days seems to also be the fact that just because you don't have to lug old school kit unless you're a pup? you're poor old aching back is still getting a whack bending over heaps to adjust the contraptions...😂 not to mention the fact the older experts need to wear glasses just to read the screens whilst trying to look cool mid gig and getting all the babes in the crowd! bummer!!!!
Glasses! Too right. I could barely see my feet never mind some tiny wee screen. Don't get me started on bright LEDs that are like tiny suns blinding you and making it impossible to see what knob your are attempting to turn lol
The small form factor is always nice, but there is no rational reason to have anything on the floor except footswitches. Luckily it does have midi. I am still waiting for the first 2U half-size rack guitar amp and 2U half size multi effect ;)
@martijn_yt Someone I know has a Black star 100 Watt unit and pops it on the cabinet just like a normal amp. It's just easier to take to gigs and it's more reliable than a valve head. Especially when being bumped about on Edinburgh roads. A pothole could take out a power valve easily!
Thin, scratchy treble, dull, muddy bass and and horribly unbalanced overdrive are not my idea of a great amp sound. Sounds to me like a wrongly assembled fake-Tweed amp, which tries to sound like a Plexi, but completely fails. Would be an instant return from me, just like any other Laney gear, I had up to now. Dont't know, what they do, but they seem to have a talent, to make almost everything always completely wrong soundwise. At least for me. Not at all my world, sorry! Heavily overpriced for these tubeless tones too in my opinion.
I have a Two Rock Classic reverb, Friedman JEL-20, Mes Boogie and a vintage Fender Tremolux and I can say that this Laney sounds as good to me honestly. Just my opinion though. Everyone has different takes on gear though. Thanks for the comment! ❤️❤️❤️ I feel the same way about Marshall as you do about Laney lol
@@gringopig Apart from the JEL all amps, I never wanted to play. The JEL is the maybe best Friedman, I ever have heard, but alone, because it is a Friedman, I never bought one, as I do not want to support a guy like Mr. Friedman with a purchase. But I anyway have enough (tube) amps or pedals, which give me the sounds I like, also tried several Laneys, mostly Ironhearts, but for me they always sounded wrong. But of course this is my personal impression, if others are happy with them, no problem.
A agree a 100%. It DOES sound terrible. Reminds me of the old Palmer Pocket Amps. I own a 1st series Lionheart by the way and it has been my favourite recording amp for over a decade.
