    Another great little tease about Capaldi is that he was filming World War Z when he was offered the part of The Doctor. His character in the movie was a doctor working for the World Health Organisation, so as a little in-joke he appeared in the credits as "W.H.O. Doctor!

    12:33 - My personal favorite piece of subtle writing is in Night of the Doctor: "Physician, heal thyself". Such self-loathing for his own regeneration - always telling others how to fix themselves, and yet he's the one turning himself into a warrior, the thing he hates.

    I love this episode! The best thing about it is that only 11 will remember Gallifrey being saved because he's the oldest, so the character development of War, 9, 10 and 11 (pre Day) remains intact. I also think it's really perfect that the Moment chose someone from the War Doctor's future that's guiding him and who better than the first companion the Doctor had post Time War? It's almost as if the moment was trying to subtly let the Doctor know that he has a future, that he'll survive. In any case, it's really superb writing from Moffat. This is just a brilliant episode all around!

      I love that his reason for leaving Doctor Who (and his bitterness) were never about the role but about how the crew were treated by higher ups. I think the benefit of time has allowed him to see how much his Doctor means to people and softened him a bit.

    • @urthboundmisfit
      @urthboundmisfit ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShadowyFox_86 I am actually suspicious it was not just higher-ups. I suspect he was pissed off at John Barrowman for Barrowman's bad behavior behind the scenes. Barrowman was literally sexually harassing women on the set -- yes, I know he's gay, I don't get it either, but Camille Coduri confirmed it -- and obviously didn't get fired for it, in fact got rewarded with his own show. Davies being the showrunner, clearly turning a blind eye, I bet that stuck in Eccleston's craw. I say this because pay attention to the interactions between Captain Jack and Nine. Eccleston always comes off a tad more sarcastic than I might have expected. I'm betting he hadn't wanted the kissing scene either. (There's a bit where Harkness kisses Nine.) There's a decent chance I'm wrong, I suppose, about Eccleston's immediate reason for leaving but the atmosphere Barrowman caused or intensified could not possibly have helped. Eccleston doesn't strike me as a woman-hater. Impressive since he's divorced, but there it is.

    Matt Smith's Doctor wont retain his conversation with the Curator, since the Curator is his future self (Matt Smith, being a younger version, will be out of sync). As such, even Matt Smith's Doctor won't be sure by the end of the episode if Gallifrey survived or not. The scene is there to tell the audience (& only the audience) that Gallifrey survived. Also, if you assume that Matt Smith's Doctor is aware of the Curator Doctor, then some things in the next episode won't make sense.

    Yes the slightly weak elements are the Zygons and Liz One, but really it is all rather magnificent. I’ve loved the War Doctor big finish, and most of Eight, if you get the chance to listen to them I highly recommend it. John Hurt only did twelve episodes before his death, but they are just top quality. Big Finish knew they had a special opportunity, with a legendary actor who would normally not do audiobooks, and upped their game, using their best writers and voice actors (not just my opinion, they stated as much on their podcast).
    Your dad caught the Neville Chamberlain reference, but not the John Rawls’ Theory of Justice veil, in the zygote/ human negotiation scene. Or did he just keep mum?

    I'm sorry but no this was not better than The Five Doctors or The Three Doctors, both had a Far better plot and actually had a villain unlike the 50th also it's monsterous that there were no classic Doctors, no classic companions, retconing a new Doctor out of nowhere all because Moffat couldn't get Chris and didn't think Paul Mcgann would've fought The Time War, and undoing Gallifreys fate all because everyone has to live, and as much as I love John Hurt, Paul Mcgann should've been The War Doctor role, and William Russell and Carol Ann Ford should've returned, in my opinion
