Its only once in 35 years of calving that I've felt uneasy with a cow and its new born calf. I placed the quad bike between them before tagging the calf. Probably beef cattle been more isolated in the back blocks with less human contact could cause more incidents of stroppy mums?

Not necessarily. We had Hereford cross that were worked with daily and yet one had a calf in the dead of winter and I couldn't get near the calf. Took my Dad along to keep the cow off me and we got mother and calf safely in the warm barn. The only time we had a difficult cow.

  • @allanrowland130

Is that protective cow pure Angus? I thought they were supposed to be user friendly. We have a variety of breeds and have yet to get one being difficult. Although that could change as we have a Murray Grey due next month. They are supposed to be very stroppy with calf at foot. Also had an interesting sheep problem at the weekend. Had a hogget suffer Ring Womb over Thursday night. Nothing could be done and she has joined the circle of life this morning.
