This scene was the very first time I cried when reading Wings Of Fire. For 4 whole books, Qibli had been portraying himself as a lighthearted yet earnest guy who wanted to do right by the world and had the clever mind to pull through with it, and there were only a few glimpses of what he was hiding deep down that he really didn’t want anyone else to see, which raised several questions about his true character. But this one sequence from his childhood in Book 10 finally reveals all the answers: He is desperate for approval. Qibli spent the first 3 years of his life in a city full of thieves and assassins who would never care for a young dragonet. The only thing that kept him going was the false hope that his own mother secretly loved him, despite how often she conveyed the opposite. He needed to believe that someone cared for him. Otherwise, what reason did he have to keep fighting for such a miserable life? Qibli tried endlessly to earn his mother’s approval, and in return she literally threw him against the walls. Thorn may have come just in time to rescue the poor SandWing dragonet and take him away from the depressing nightmare, but his mental scars cut far deeper than his physical scars left by his mother. Ever since then, Qibli had the desire to make himself liked by as many dragons as possible, sometimes even dragons who wouldn’t give him a fair chance. All of this is to prove to himself that his mother was wrong for the many times she called him “a waste of scales”. His childhood stripped away any trace of self-esteem or self-worth he ever could’ve had, so the only way to convince himself that he matters is by being cared and liked by others. That trauma and insecurity took a massive toll on the poor kid and could’ve taken him down a VERY dark path if he didn’t have the mental strength and willpower to see the light and climb out of his inner darkness. I never imagined such a spectacular recreation of one of the most impactful moments for me in this entire franchise! The voice acting and the animations are all fantastic! I’m so delightedly surprised to see this because I rarely hear people talking about this scene in the fandom. I’m so happy that it gets to be brought out into the spotlight with such an amazing video to captivate it in all its charm! I don’t know how this MAP somehow slipped under my radar until 2 months after its release date, but I’m thrilled that I was eventually able to catch wind of it!
@@TrickyTalon23 I also love this scene a lot! It didn’t just traumatise Qibli and make him desperate for approval, but every part of his personality stems from his childhood. He doesn’t actually have a personality that’s not rooted in trauma. He’s smart because he had to be, he’s friendly because he’s desperate for approval. It’s sad to see how deeply affected he is by the trauma and even if Qibli heals from the trauma, he won’t be the dragon he would’ve been if he hadn’t gone through it in the first place. Another thing is how Thorn saved him, she didn’t just save him, but Sirocco and Rattlesnake in a way too. The only reason the three are alive are because Vulture wanted heirs for his crime organisation (or at least that was the reason Qibli was born, although I’d assume the same for his siblings) and Thorn was about to shut that down. Part of the deal she made to take Qibli away was to let them continue the talons of power. So if she had shut it down, Vulture likely wouldn’t have a need for Qibli and his siblings and would’ve killed Qibli, maybe his siblings too. She either would’ve left Qibli there and shut down the organisation, leading to Qibli’s death or do what she did and save him, let the organisation continue and there would still be a reason to keep his siblings alive. As bad as Sirocco and Rattlesnake are, they’re still young adults and were groomed into the crime organisation like Qibli was before being saved, so I don’t think they’re actually evil.
@@Sp-a-rk yeah that’s so true that every bit about Qibli’s personality can be rooted back to his rough childhood. For what it’s worth though, he turned out to be a pretty great guy in the end and was able to save a lot of dragons. I’m happy for the dragon he turned out to be. Although I don’t think that Thorn agreed to stay away from Vulture’s organization in her deal with Cobra, but rather just from Cobra specifically. Thorn definitely would’ve had to collide with Vulture several times during her rise to power, but she could afford to leave one assassin-for-hire alone as long as Thorn was one of Cobra’s top contractors. But Thorn possibly saved Sirocco and Rattlesnake a different indirect way. The whole reason Cobra even had children to begin with was because Vulture wanted a grandchild to inherit his power, long before Thorn and the Outclaws were ever an issue. Vulture only wanted one heir to his power, and Qibli was by far the most promising candidate due to how agile and clever he was. Sirocco and Rattlesnake could’ve been disposed of at any moment via Vulture’s command and Cobra happily would’ve gone through with it. But since Thorn took Qibli away from Vulture, he HAD to settle with either Sirocco or Rattlesnake to become his new heir. So he had no choice but to keep them alive until he could decide which one was less unsuitable for the role.
a mother that set up a gang and becomes a crimeboss to find her daughter. yeah that's some great mom traits. and as for her adopted son (which I fully believe that's how thorn sees Qibli) she's always supportive and slightly kinder with him, it's a crucial part of molding the sandwing into the hero we know.
@@FluffyKitty-t5wyour comment makes YOU sound like a child. If you are so opinionated on the way she sounds, why don’t you go make your own map? I think they did an amazing job and I’m proud of how this map turned out. Leave your disgusting comments elsewhere, or we will continue to make fun of and laugh at them in the discord.
HOW DID THIS FLY UNDER MY RADAR??? FOR TWO MONTHS!!! AND IT’S SO GOOD!!! I COULD’VE MADE A WHOLE ANALYSIS COMMENT ON IT!!! What the heck I’m gonna do it anyway
Yall did a great job on the video! The part where Qibli is trying to say, 'but I want my mom to care for me', and he is trying not to cry really stuck with me. I just wanted to give him a big hug😔🥺. I am glad that Thorn is in his life👍.
its unspoken but everyone can see Thorn is Qibli's true mother. in every way but blood, she nurtured him gave him room to grow and mature and care for his well being, and in return much like others Qibli felt he owed Thorn essentially a life dept. and to Cobra's comments about weak ordinary dragons never amonting to anything, Advisor to the Sand Queen, hero of Pyrrhia for his part in defeating Darkstalker, Hero of Pentala for aiding in deafing Wasp and the Othermind. Friend of the Ice Kingdom for aiding in returning their prince, and many more feats for a "Weak ordinary dragon"
Ooo, this map is so interesting. I’ve never seen a map with Cobra in it! It’s well executed! The participants did such a good job of conveying the conversation!
Couple MAP ideas: Album: Small Foot Song: Perfection. Maybe we could either make it Blue in the Hives, before Luna's Metamorphies, or the IceWings before Snowfall. I don't know, but when I listen to it, that's what I picture! Singer: Remy Song: Chasing Down Gold. This is basically what I think should be Arc 3. The refeneces to "finding your wings" I think either Blue or Luna, "swimming agasit the tide" is Tsumai and Turtle, and the line about truth can be Cricket. There is one song in the movie Wonka, not Chairle in the Chcoc Factory, the new backstory of willy called Wonka. During thr girfface scene, I think that should be Luna and Swordtail. Swordtail is defienaly Willy, while I think Luna would be Noodle. Listen to it and you'll see! I hope you listen to my ideas! Thanks! Reply
