Idk if he’s thought about it (sounds like he hasn’t) but he has really truly helped A LOT of people, his music isn’t popular because it’s the sound of the year, it’s popular because he digs into his soul for the lyrics and that’s why they hurt so much or feel so relieving and uplifting.
