As someone with deep skin, I find it humorous that some of the qualities you don't like in the blush and lipstick in terms of pigmentation are the things I'm looking for. Same with the mascara because I wear glasses and sometimes have teary eyes and need one that stays put no matter what. Nonetheless, I found your review really helpful because I like how adequately and thoughtfully you describe the products and what they do/how they behave. ❤
Ik same. Most of the colors Hannah loves look terrible on my skin tone 😭😭😭 but I love the content so much, her perspective and grace is unmatched.
As the opposite example, I have Hannah’s skin tone, but my other go to reviewer is Alicia Archer. Because of Alicia’s in depth knowledge, beauty and spirit. I love this beauty space for this reason. It’s so welcoming and supportive. ❤

Yes!! Halsey created these products to be used as art supplies on the face. I love that people are being artistic with them, but I also love how they can be used naturally and more toned down

2:44 The plastic packaging is also compostable as well! Halsey designed it so that it could be. So all of the packaging that is on the products is 100% compostable, When I first ordered from them I was also nervous about the packaging since it was this clunky package but when I checked sources and the website to see if it was and was relieved to find that the packaging is recycleable.
I just want to mention that even if there is a recycle symbol on a product (it doesn't mean anything), your municipality may not recycle it especially if it isn't cleaned out. Some brands like Deciem will collect skin & beauty packaging for recycling. I hate excessive plastic like where a cream is a tiny amount but there is a thick wall of plastic around it (Aveeno, Neutrogena).
3 things... 1) I'm completely with you about the "not covering as much" or preferring a more natural skin look. I find I can no longer stand looks with no pores and filter-like finishes. You CAN be glam, or sophisticated, or sublimed AND be less "heavy". 2) Your TH-cam has become my favourite beauty and fashion channel. And I don't even share your style. I appreciate your professional honesty, voice (physically and figuratively) and sincere love of beauty. I found a kindred spirit in that last part. 3) You are inspiring and helping me and others in our "spend less" efforts and THANK YOU for that. Keep up you amazing work!

Oooohh, Hidden Garden! We have the same skin tone, but different hair colors and preferences for sure. My natural color is pretty desaturated/grey leaning, but I dye my hair bright lime green, and Hidden Garden is such a nice brow color for me. I used it as my brow product for a while, one of the only things I’ve found that is grey enough for me, and the green tone went with my hair/undertones/eye color. I also just REALLY love that specific color as a base for looks. It’s such a unique olive leaning gray and it goes with almost everything I tend to enjoy.
Your videos are a master class in how to present material in an approachable thoughtful way.

I would love to work from home. If it’s any consolation, driving in traffic and going into an office and dealing with office gossip and politics only served to remind me of how peaceful my work from home days were. Not to mention how much money I saved on gas, auto maintenance, clothes, hair products and make-up.

It's a little difficult to describe this content to other people, your reviews are perfectly wordy and somehow soothing. A unique combination for a beauty brand review. The lens of responsible consumerism through which you present cools my heels in the best way and I appreciate that you always mention it as a primer for the rest of the video, it feels very zen. You give us so much info without unnecessary hype or disrespecting the product. I feel better educated about the brand without pressure, it's a lovely balance. That said, I love the look you created and I'm looking a little harder at their eye paints for when I'm ready to expand my collection again. Cheers
Just thought I’d chime with some appreciation for Hannah’s comment section. All my favourite TH-camrs have pleasant comment sections, but this is the only place where I regularly dip in and read a bunch. I assume this is due partly to Hannah working at maintaining a lovely atmosphere. But I have this maybe-silly idea that the other people in the world who enjoy this channel are probably people that I would be lucky to know irl. Anyone else living with this little fantasy in their brains? 🤣💕
I totally agree! I think beyond positivity, what really stands out to me in HLP comment sections is the amount of thoughtfulness I see in people’s replies, where they’re often sharing some of themselves instead of just reacting to the video itself. I’ve definitely learned a thing or two from some of the more substantive replies :)
Oh heck yes! HLP's comments section is the only place online where I get the feeling that I'd be thrilled (and LUCKY) to meet the majority of participants IRL. I've never attended (nor felt any desire to attend) any kind of meet-and-greet or in-person event, but a meet-up for folks who resonate with the HLP vibe? I'd consider it! ❤

I just purchased the matte eye paint in “Smell Before Rain” and it’s honestly changed the whole game for me! As an olive skin medium to light I’ve struggled with pigmentation around my eyes. It has a great amount of green in it to just make such a flattering base that doesn’t crease and I imagine it would be so beautiful on a pale olive! I’ve been just putting that on and being done sometimes. Highly recommend! Thanks for this review Hannah!
I’ve got that shade too… it’s FANTASTIC. It works as a primer under powder shadows too, but what I love most is how comfortable it is. I’ve worn liquid shadows that flake or feel cruddy as they dry, or emphasize texture… these do none of that. I’ve only got the one so far, but am absolutely picking up more.
A makeup artist i worked with recommended the purple blush for me because i have a medium skin-tone. She said the purple would actually work great for deep and dark skin tones best, so it’s certainly something I wasn’t aware of before. She also referred to it as a cream blush, she said almost exactly what you did regarding the texture. Can’t wait to run out of my old stuff and add this to my collection!
I am not a "you need to go buy this right now" kind of human. Earlier this year though I tried the matte fractal eye paint in smell b4 rain and thought "wow so this is what liquid shadows are supposed to be able to do." such a lovely neutral-leaning color (and not at all orange! yay!) and so EASY TO USE

This is such a great color… and the formula is perfection. They aren’t fussy, as long as you apply one eye at a time it gives you time to blend the edges, and doesn’t flake. Completely comfortable. I adore this shadow.

I really like when you do do these one-brand focused reviews, demos. To me it never matters how old something is to enjoy a video on it.
I've only tried the blush because, as you pointed out, its presence at Ulta makes it very accessible and I've been looking for a lilac cream blush for two years. I wanted a cream blush because of my newly-dry skin, and for some reason, it dries down and blends out to a total powder finish. It really does have a very narrow shade range, and I'm lucky it has one I can work with. I hope they broaden their shade ranges, and I'm glad to know what the lip and brow/lash formulas are like! Thank you for all the time and effort you put into this review!!

I'm so excited for this video! I have two liquid lipsticks from About Face that I love - the color Serrated Bite is just the most stunning red. Their colors, their names, their packaging, I'm so into it. I can tell Halsey really has a passion for colorful makeup. I'm thinking of trying more from the brand, so I'm super interested to hear your thoughts!
Also LOVE the liquid lipsticks… they’re super pigmented so I use a lip brush and a very light hand but one of the deeper shades is completely “my lips but better” and it just looks amazing. I also think they’re quite comfortable for a liquid lip. I’ve only got one of the matte fluid eye paints… a greenish grey that is FANTASTIC to use under powders as a base to make things last. Am going to pick up more of those for sure. They’re a bit like the Danessa Myricks color fix tubes in the way they dry down and feel like nothing, but do not budge. Essentially bombproof.
I love the eye paints also. The square tube is new packaging, it used to come in this super weird tube with big flaps on either side. It was a nightmare to store with other products because it didn’t fit anywhere, and was so awkward to hold and use. So much better now.
Hi Hannah. Particularly when makeup is going up in price quite a lot...like everything else with the cost of living crisis...discerning shopping is even more important. So thanks for reviewing more drugstore brands along with the more high end products.

I really love about-face. Their liquid highlighters are so beautiful and totally agree with the lip paints! The only liquid lipsticks I’ll wear. You know, I’ve noticed a lot of desaturated blush colours in Judy Doll, which is a Chinese beauty brand. You might want to check it out

I am super interested in the matte ones after I finish most of my matte eyeshadows (which will be a minute). I just have gotten to where I feel nervous about breathing in powder every day when I do makeup. So I am slowly transitioning to creams as I finish powder products

I have one of the AF liquid shadows (the one in Lost Unfound) and I love it so, so much! It's a really dark blue but it blends super nicely and it's very sturdy. I'd like to try a few more of the colors when I have room in my budget for them.

I have a BUNCH of the matte liquid eye paints and LOVE them! I’m so tempted to try the fractal ones! I have so many sparkly, beautiful eyeshadows already though.
Thank you introducing the concept of saturation! I am fair skinned but, opposite of you, my skin tone is (now i know) actually saturated 😅 I NEVER understood why I could rock a fuchsia lipstick, but never a pale pink.
Me too! Brights work so well for me and muted tones make me look ghostly.
I’ve been loving this brand!! You would love the shade Refract in the fractal eye paint because it’s that perfect platinum silver that doesn’t lean blue at all. Hidden Garden is probably my favorite shade I’ve ever put on my eyes because it matches my irises perfectly!! I’m just a sucker for cool tones and greens. The Vinyl Effect eye gloss layered on top is gorgeous too, very much Terry Barber vibes 😍😉
Something I really don’t like about the liquid eyeshadows is the inconsistency in formulation from color to color. I first bought the olive green eyeshadow and it was great! Amazing pigmentation and easy to blend so I went and bought 3 other colors out of which I was the most excited about the royal blue one. Well…. That shade is extremely patchy and kinda watery and literally doesn’t even build up on my eyes🙃
I also dont love the fact that the packaging doesnt always match the actual shade. I bought a deep wine shade (that is what I gathered from the packaging as well as the model photos) that actually turned out to be a greyish eggplant which was just SOO unflattering on me (I'm medium olive)

I was going to say this as well. I bought Blue Monday (like a Robin's egg blue), Replicant (teal), and Everything Now (lime/spring green). I used Blue Monday first and it was just a disaster. Wouldn't blend out and definitely did not give me a gradient, patchy on the lid, and when I tried to layer to fix the patchiness it flaked off, so ... I don't know. I'm kinda scared to try the others.

Do u think you’d ever do tutorials using the fluid eye paints ? 😅 i love it but at the same time i don’t think i have the confidence in my “ makeup skill “ to just throw it on . I swatch the ones in my collection all the time and i’m in love but AH how tf so i do this on my face without looking insane

I love the bright and fun vibe of about face marketing images, then have to remind myself that I work in a corporate office and those bright pinks and sky blues wouldn't see a lot of use from me. Still love hearing about the brand though, it's the only celebrity makeup line that really pulls my attention!

After trying a number of mascaras I didn't love over the past year, I got the About Face one recently and actually really enjoy it! Although, I get what you mean about it being an ordeal to take off, so I'm not sure yet if I'd buy it again. I've wanted to try the cream blush, but I agree and wish they would release more colors. The eye paints look amazing, as well, but even though everyone says they're easy to work with, I'm still scared of liquid eyeshadows lol. Thanks for the video, Hannah!

I LOVE the Fractal Glitter Shadows. Fracture is my favorite. It’s a perfect neutral glitter shade. The mascara is one I wanted to love. I love the way it looks on my lashes but the amount of effort it takes to removes makes it not worth it for me. The blushes are a fave for me as well. I love the pigmentation. But I love a good “blush moment” l. And Kiwi Fuzz has been a go-to for me lately.

I think drug store type makeup is in plastic so that you can see the product/color because there are not testers. (But that’s just a guess?)
I love their shadow sticks, lip pencils, eye liners, and lip color butters. I wasn’t crazy about the eye primer or mascara. I plan to try more from them.

I tried the purple blush and I really like it. It mostly looks pink on me, but in the more concentrated places where I first put it on it is a little purple....I love the matte eye paint, but the one I bought (smell b4 rain) is so pale it doesn't show up on me. I use it as shadow base for trickier shadows and I really like the formula. I'm willing to forgive a lot about this brand because I love the price point and the packaging. It looks and feels more high end than it is...I'm really surprised you didn't try the eye gloss. That seems like a HLP catnip to me...

so interestin, I had a really hrd time with the matte eye paints! I found them weirdly tacky but somehow also super creasy and hard to blend! may I need to revisit. the fractal ones I love though, but I have in the old packaging which was comically hard to store! so happy they changed that.
Also AF94 I think? Is about Face’s true drugstore brand. Love the price points from both lines and looking forward to more reviews of these brands! ❤

I’ve been at this stage of not covering everything up for probably a year now. It’s wonderful. It just doesn’t look right when every blemish, scar or imperfection is concealed. It looks like there’s no life in my face! But now I just wear a green primer for my redness, a tiny bit of peach concealer for my blue under eyes and very little powder foundation or translucent powder to down down the shine, but there’s very little coverage. I don’t worry about sweating off my makeup anymore, no more cakey issues, no more worrying about the skin around my blemishes flaking anymore. And I look better!

I keep seeing adds for Thrive Cosmetics with .... cream shadow sticks. They have a taupe shade they're using in their ads that looks fabulous. I'd love to see your thoughts. In the past, I've not loved this kind of product because the shades are usually so sheer. I usually just use them as inner corner and brow highlighting products because I need a bit more depth for it to be a 1 eyeshadow look for me.
I just want to calm my red down, light mascara, blush, lip. Natural. I watched a video of yours and picked up L'OREAL magic BB cream, reduce redness today. Ps...I have no brows.☺ I'm actually excited to try a little makeup again. You got to me. Only been 30 years.☺☺☺

Yay, you're trying the eye paints! I'm kinda surprised you didn't get Smell B4 Rain. Was ulta out? It's the hue that I thought might be the most interesting for you to give a go. It might seem pedestrian, but I've seen it has a distinctive undertone. Smell B4 Rain & Freaked are the ones I will eventually pick up. Want to try a butter or two but I splurged on the RDF plump creme lip oils, so I'm holding off.

I just ordered some matte eye paint from Ulta. I wanted a matte grey taupe color, so I ordered “smell before rain” maybe that is also the color for you.
I love the Cherry Pick lip but yeah that scent is a bit much. Also, the Replicant shade gives me the most perfect Endora from Bewitched eye look. Got me calling Dr. Bombay!

In case you're searching for suggestions, what I would LOVE to see at some point is a review of foundations/skin tints/base makeup that actually has desaturated shades. Our compleion is similar and it would be so helpful to see in one place some of the makeup players out there that are actually making those greyish colors. I've been using the tarte maracuja tinted hydrator in the lightest shade only because it was the greyest bb cream type thing I could find (and it is decently grey but I'm not out here losing my mind over the product) and I would love love to see a catalogue of what else might be out there! Just percolating on some thoughts

Girl what are you talking about? Those Cherry Pick lip butters have a faint Fruit Punch scent. At least the shades i own. And that Cheek Freak blush is def a balm. You cray! 😂
You know I’m feeling like you these days. I’ve develop some melasma and the need to cover it and have the most even tone possible and when I look at my face in the mirror that is all I see. I love this video and I’m intrigue by the brand. The possibilities. I like the way you explain the product and how it behaves cuz those are the things I want to hear. I was/are interested on jones road more so after your review. I would love to hear what you think about thrive causemetics.
I’m pale but I think I have a different undertone because the lip & cheek products look great on me. That’s interesting how it just depends on each person and their uniqueness.
After I just bought a couple of products lately to play with. I’m a guy so I want grungy. I got a bunch of the lip butters on discount for the ladies in my family and friendsZ I got the same one you’re wearing for myself. It smelled like peach to me and I liked it but I’m not sensitive to smells. The lip gloss was cool too.
Aside from Danessa Myricks, About Face is, by far, the most interesting and innovative newer makeup brand to me. I say new… I mean they’ve both been around awhile, but what they’re putting out are things that are pretty unique in a sea of sameness.
The formulas are all so good, (what I’ve tried, I see not everything was a winner here, but honestly that’s going to happen with most every brand) and the pricing is really reasonable for items that can be used either as staples or for more editorial “Euphoria” type looks.
I wish we had About Face here in NZ, there's a couple of things I'd like to try.

Do the eye paints dry out after a year? That's what I've heard about liquid eye products.
You are hard to please! Your face looked absolutely beautiful today, and I did get the idea about it. Did Ulta NOT have a way to test the colors first? I think you are a great reviewer, but as a hairstylist for decades, people really don't know what looks best on them. But, true, YOU have to like it, but again, you looked so good today.
Your eyes look so pretty with that mascara I’m so sad you don’t like it!! But I totally get it I also don’t want to end up ripping off my eyelashes lol
That Shadowstick looks an awful lot like the ELF eye stick in Magnetic Pull, which is basically my favorite product of the current decade.
Do you think the lip butter could be a dupe for glossier vinylic lip?
