Are Japanese allowed to do the same I've never got the feeling them pretending to be Korean would be ok due to historical things. Most foreign idols in Korea no matter how loved are still other to them even Korean Americans. I never heard of him before Tanaka, but I've only been following Kpop and Korean Entertainment for the past few years. As a Korean American all my schooling has been in the US so I don't know how things are in Korea, but I think if he's appearing on popular shows then it's pretty well received in Korea. Whether it is OK or not is up for debate probably. I think there is a fine line between impersonating and mocking. Also, I think if it was a historic figure or someone of importance he was impersonating it might be a different reception. I don't think there's any ill-intent, but I'm sure there are people who find it offensive, but humor is a very subjective thing.
