What a spectacular stunning location, brilliantly captured in your cinematography. There is a certain magic about these ruined buildings, like youselves i would be itching to explore those tunnels.👍❤
We absolutely love exploring the old slate quarries, like you say they have a certain atmosphere and you can really feel the history all around you.. Fingers crossed one day we can work it out to get exploring down some of those tunnels and caverns 🤞😊
Hi Em and Stu, My wife and I have been watching your vlogs for years. Your vlogs are definitely getting better. Nice editing, beautiful camera work from the ground and drone shots which are lovely and nice music. Your vlogs are informative, well researched and interesting and your presentation skills have come on leaps and bounds Em, very natural. We think you both do a really good job and make your vlogs good to watch and you both work well together. I have to smile sometimes when Stu is walking backwards filming Em while she’s talking and walking. I wonder how many times you have to practice that before you get it right. Anyway I’ll stop running on and just say, well done both, keep up your hard work and have fun making them. We’ll always be watching. Ian and Angie.
Thank you so much for such lovely feedback! We do sometimes watch our old videos back and feel we've definitely improved over the last 6 years so it's nice to know other people agree.. I've spent more time than I'd care to admit researching and learning the history of all the places we visit to try and make them interesting and Stu has done alot of practising with his camera work to make the presentation better, people often forget about how hard the camera man also has to work lol. We do often have to do alot of re-takes but mainly because I forget what I was going to say and yes there was definitely a fair bit of tripping over during our Wales trip especially at the slate quarries! Anyway.. I'm so glad you enjoy watching our videos. There's plenty more to come and many more improvements we hope to make in the future 😊👍
What a beautiful area with some fascinating history. I can imagine what the living conditions were like, poor people. It was a Welsh slate quarry like this that was used for location filming of 'The Five Doctors', the 20th Anniversary Doctor Who special in 1983
So many abandoned quarries around this area we really were spoilt for choice! Its sad to think so many people worked and lived in such poor and dangerous conditions around here.. Had to look up about the Doctor Who filming as it wasn't something I was aware of and yes you are right, they used a few locations around here to film.. I might have to give it a watch! 😊👍
Another stunning location with more great footage and information. It was after watching one of your earlier vlogs that we visited the Dorothea Quarry whilst in North Wales last week. Keep up the good work folks.
Thanks Leigh, these old slate quarries are so fascinating especially Dorothea, we'd love to go back to that one again as there's was still plenty more for us to find. Thanks for watching 😊 👍
Thanks, we'd love to get into a bit of caving in the future especially around the Derbyshire area, shame we don't really have many caves or mines around Norfolk 😕
As well as tours exploring those gated tunnels there is actually a hotel down there. Takes a good few hours and going over steep ravines (so not for the faint hearted). You stay overnight in decent bedded huts & in the morning do reverse of the way out. They are always booked up way in advance and there are vlogs on TH-cam showing peoples experiences staying there. The secret garden was abandoned decades ago after the former miner who created it unfortunately passed away in early 2000's. It was quite lovely in its heyday. If you walk on the otherside of the lake there are remains of another chapel, was impressive remains but started to fall down. Also another managers house in better condition. Lots of mines to explore just a little further along. Oh and being pedantic the mountains are the Moelwyns, Cwmorthin is the lake and River that that Quarry got its name from. The Wrysgan Quarry up there is interesting, down from the village / lake below you can see a very steep incline and the otherside is the Quarry so can see the tunnel incline on both sides. It's just up the mountain from the slate cottages you visited.
Yes we've watched videos of 'the worlds deepest hotel' down there, it looks like quite an experience! We had hoped to carry on past the lake and up to Rhosydd and Conglog Quarries to see the other chapel and Managers house as well as so much more up there but sadly we ran out of time that day and being blighted by awful weather for the rest of our trip we didn't manage to return 😔 Thanks for the info about the mountains, if and when we return we'll be sure to remember. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 😊👍
That's a great spot, nice views and cool structures. Good to see so many structures still standing.
There's so much around here we really only scratched the surface but it's a good excuse to return in the future.. Thanks for your support as always 😊👍
