    I had a reaction to the Catherine Ellis chart when you flipped it. I have resisted all the Hands Across the Seas Samplers. I will do the sampler with the back colors if you chart it. It is truly stitching archaeology when you show us these videos.

      😮😮😮 Wow, thank you! I will chart it for sure and with all the requests it will be back and front for sure 😍 Thank you so much for your kind words!

      There are some "must do" samplers and then I am free to chart at will again. 😍

    Love all of the items that you showed us. The tablecloth is inspiring. Lovely colors, as is Catherine Ellis. I favor the colorway of the front, but I do like soft subdued color. I’m ready to stitch her and the day she is released I will be at the front of the line so to speak to purchase the chart. Enjoyed this vi dep very much!

    Thank you so much for the reveal of Catherine Ellis! How stunningly exquisite she is and how challenging and time consuming to stitch. The oak and acorn border sold me immediately, but then the sweet sentiment, and the birds and florals, what can you say? I intend to stitch this for my 70th birthday when you have it ready. No rush, though….

      @thewishingthorn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooooh what a great Birthday start idea! I love it. She is so beautiful for sure, I also love that acorn border - so lovely!

    Brigit, I love your videos! I really enjoyed your unveiling of the Catherine Ellis sampler. It is an exquisite piece! I hope you chart it and give two options of color choices for the front and more vibrant back.

    • @thewishingthorn
      @thewishingthorn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Margaret. See is planned for both sides. It will be quite an interesting chart, on the plus side there is not too much over-one yay! She could easily be adapted for all that don't stitch on linen.

    Oh, Birgit....you shared such beautiful treasures with us, but when you did the sampler unframing at the end, I swooned. The front has all the colors I love. Then the back! How richly delicious those colors are. Love the gorgeous teals and flower colors. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I can't wait to see this one charted. And yes, it does look like quite the charting nightmare, but no one does it better than you! P.S. I hope to finish my sampler in the next few days. It is so beautiful. Thank you again. hugs,Molly D

      @thewishingthorn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Molly!!! The front colors are why I bought the sampler ( for that future green & yellow bedroom 🤣) I was so surprised myself when I saw the back. I'm so glad you are still enjoying your sampler. When it's Kathy's turn should I mail it to your house as a little "revenge" 🤣🤣🤣

    I stitched models for Leisure Arts back in the 1980’s and 90’s. Lots of hand drawn and colored charts. I did some Paula Vaughn designs….lots of backstitching! I was kept very busy during that time. I still have a closet full of the charts and books they gave me. That sampler is amazing!

    • @thewishingthorn
      @thewishingthorn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for sharing your story! The charts were really something back then!

  • @jeanakimball5691
    @jeanakimball5691 ปีที่แล้ว

    Where to begin! The tablecloth was simply marvelous-it reminds me of early complex appliqué quilts (early 1800s). I need another lifetime for stitching alone, Then the unveiling!!! The colors on the back of the sampler made me gasp. The rich earthiness of the shades of every color is incredible. Those colors confirm brilliantly the difference between mineral (and natural) dyes and the artificial color of chemical dyes that came later. The back of this sampler is an education in itself! Thank you ❤❤

    • @thewishingthorn
      @thewishingthorn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you make some really great points that I haven't even thought of! Thank you for making me use my brain! 🤣 The first thing I thought when I saw that rich deep blue was Lazuli due, because I think indigo would not have been that brilliant. There is definitely a lot to learn! Thank you so much 😍

    Love the tablecloth and sampler. The work is extraordinary. Your stitching on your Mirabilia piece is just impeccable. I could only hope to stitch like that someday. Thanks for another enjoyable and informative video.

    I so enjoyed your latest video, Birgit. Catherine is just gorgeous!! I was so taken w/the muted colors til you turned it over--- what a wonderful contrast. Know this will take a while to chart but it will be on my radar to purchase when you release it. Also, thanks for the info re: Jane Greenhof's club. My friends & I were privileged to visit her home & studio--Pink Barns-- on our needlework tour in England in 2016. She & her husband were delightful & so fun!! We really enjoyed our afternoon there.

    Oh Birgit! I love the Catherine Ellis sampler! I hope this will be one of the sooner rather than later ones you chart. I am intriqued by charting reproduction samplers. I think it would be something I would enjoy. I am retiring soon and maybe I can find a small sampler to chart - one can dream, right?

    • @thewishingthorn
      @thewishingthorn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Always dream big! One never knows :) It is fun and tedious at the same time, and sometimes so tiny and messed up that it is impossible to see. Some of those girls have some wild stitching habits! 😂

  • @danaelkins2046
    @danaelkins2046 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love both of the Ellis samplers ❤ and I am going to keep watching, hoping you will chart and release them (please don’t let the amount of stitching deter you!!). My maiden name is Ellis and these are the first samplers (reproduction with names) that I’ve actually felt my breath catch when I saw them❤❤❤

    • @thewishingthorn
      @thewishingthorn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      so glad you like them! I am really excited to move forward on them. I do have to sprinkle a smaller design in between to make sure my small sampler lovers also get something new :)

    Love seeing the beautiful samplers you have, Birgit. The one at the end was stunning, and what a surprise the front and back colours were. Lots of charting fun ahead for you lol. I was surprised when you showed one of my favourite designers, Sharon Cohen, as I've never run into anyone else who stitches her. I started her Whitework Sampler many years back, but it got damaged somewhere I was living so I will have to restart it. and then I have a few more of her patterns to do as well. I look forward to seeing your WIPs. That purse will be such fun. Take care, and happy stitching.

    What an extraordinary sampler. The colors are magnificent! Can you share what music you use at the beginning and end of your flosstube? It sounds familiar, but I can't put a name to it.

    • @thewishingthorn
      @thewishingthorn  ปีที่แล้ว

      The music is called Wendy's Waltz but it you Google it, the wrong songs come up, I bought the license for this from a music company and that is what they called it. So i don't know....

    Love your videos. Not into the cutesy stuff, really intrigued by reproduction samplers, history of them, the unveiling you do, & the final reproductions. Can they be stitched on Aida? Keep floss tubes coming along with history.

    • @thewishingthorn
      @thewishingthorn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a mixture of both, Aida and just linen - I usually note it in the description of the pattern listing. And thank you for the compliment!

    Thank you for sharing the unveiling of the original colors. This is so beautifully designed. Do you think she did this all on her own, or was she likely guided by someone for color choice and design? I just think it would have been amazing that she would have had the maturity at age 14 to make this all up on her own. I love it.

    • @thewishingthorn
      @thewishingthorn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you and so glad you enjoyed it. By age 14 she was a seasoned stitcher, I don't know if she was in school or if she was a home with a teacher but either way she would have been able to do this on her own. Young ladies years younger would have stitched an equally beautiful samplers. I think the design & stitching of the piece had a lot to do with the means of what materials and education were available to her. There a much simpler samplers stitched by young girls from poor upbringing, that have more of a "primitive look - but are equally as charming.
