    Transistor squad where you at?
    I hear you buzzing, a fly on the wall
    In through the window, and up through the hall
    Flying in circles, just trying to land
    I see you hurting, I do what I can
    But I won't save you
    I won't save you
    Maybe you're looking for someone to blame
    Fighting for air while you circle the drain
    Never be sorry for your little time
    It's not when you get there, it's always the climb
    But I won't save you
    I won't save you
    I won't save you
    I won't save you

    Supergiant Games is one of my favorite indie devs! Two of their games are listed here (Pyre and Transistor), also you mentioned Bastion. These guys are great in what they do 👍

  • @raxigar9176
    @raxigar9176 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It is wonderful to see Pyre on here. I can't think of a more misrepresented and overlooked game from the recent past. Most tended to reduce it to what they called NBA JAM-like elements, but it really offered so much more than that. I can't remember a game that I played in the last few years that offered that same sense of sacrifice. It deserved better than the reception it got.

    My favourite "overlooked" indie games of the decade (all on Steam):
    -Hell Is Other Demons (2019) - Single-screen platform shoot-em-up with a crazy aesthetic.
    -Demon's Tilt (2019) - "Bullet Hell Pinball" is what it's described as. A spiritual sequel to the PC-Engine/Mega Drive "Crush" pinball games.
    -Rym 9000 (2018) - Intense vertical-scrolling shoot-em-up that probably makes no sense at all to anyone watching you play but is otherwise perfect,
    -Thumper (2016) - "Rhythmic combat" in which you're a space beetle flying along a track towards a demonic face. One of those "in the zone" sort of games.
    -Savant: Ascent (2013) - Another rhythmic combat thing, this time with a wizard making his way to the top of his very tall castle, with a surprising cameo of a last boss.
    -Uriel's Chasm (2014) - This one gets a lot of hate for some reason, but there's really nothing else like it. If you get any sort of enjoyment from the likes of Earnest Evans on the Mega CD, this'll do you fine.

    And once again CrossCode is not on the list, which is a gem that YOU seem to have critically overlooked. Sadface :(.
    Game like Pony Island, VVVVV, The swapper, etc , are all great game that I played myself but they imo far shorter in entertainment value, price/length, Music Quality, and depth than crosscode.
    Transistor being there is nice, although Supergiant Games are hardly "overlooked" ever since Bastion
    For other games, I'd also add Baba is You, and Nuclear Throne. As well as Ion Fury and Dusk for the FPS category. Add a Hat in time/enter the gungeon for the edge of "overlooked".

I almost gave up multiple times during my first playthrough, but mastering the game is intensely gratifying and it's become one of my favourite games of all time. Please don't give up if you own it!
    (I referenced a couple wikis and looked at a movement guide or two... I got some spoilers accidentally, and I recommend going in quite blind, but if you're really stuck, definitely look into a movement guide, it's what'll help the most, and then let you figure out the individual mysterious elements of the world with less frustration, like not dying on the way to exploring them.)

    Great seeing Transistor and Sundered.
    I feel like Sundered got some hate cause of how it's designed and how it combines different game mechanics. It worked for some and for some it didn't. The player isn't supposed to breeze through the game, but rather "conquer" areas and hunt for upgrades. A major improvement over Jotun. I knew if Thunder Lotus focused more on gameplay and listened to criticism that they would make something truly unique. Their studio's visuals and sound are both stunning and I love the lovecraftian world they depicted.

    Rain World is a part of my 10 best games of this decade, because it is one of the most intriguing experimental titles. The developers set out to create a complex ecosystem of bizarre creatures, and in that regard I think they’ve succeeded quite well. It is something that requires you to come at it with a different mindset in order to understand. Instead of playing it like a video game, you have to put yourself into the head of an animal trying to survive in a harsh, unfair wilderness.
    I could write a whole lot about why it’s such a good game - and I did, in a review - but I’ll instead just toss in my own suggestion: Tangledeep. A game that takes the very confusing and primitive roguelike genre (the traditional, turn-based ones), and changes it into something that is all about accessibility. If you want to try those types of games, I think this one is probably the best option available. (There is even a mode without permadeath, which has apparently been quite well received.)

      Theres a presentation out there where they go in depth into the AI and the "skelettisation" of the enemy models, it's pretty great.
      Sadly Rainworlds mechanics put off a LOT of people (it's hard to recommend to non experts really) but I consider that game pure Art.

      I do believe that I saw the presentation you’re referring to. It further deepened that appreciation I have for the game’s intended design.

    Thanks for the video. There's a flash game called Phoenotopia, which lacks nothing from an action adventure metroidvania game. It's available to play for free on Newgrounds and I highly recommend it, as I'd definitely add it to the list.

    Great list, a lot of games I'm curious about now! Just wanted to add another top comment saying yay Rain World!!🌧🐌🐈Simply an incredible experience. In my dreams it will spawn Rain World-likes with regards to the ecosystem, AI interactions, the feeling of *actually* being low on the food chain, and so on.
    My impression is that it got a bad reception by critics, which is a shame... I wonder if it had fared better with just a little bit more handholding or exposition. I'm sure a lot of people stopped playing before they got to see ingame text at all..
    On the other hand I kind of love that they designed it in such an uncompromising way!

    At first I was going to complain "where is Dead Cells, Hollow Knight, Celeste, etc." until I remembered the title is OVERLOOKED games! With that thought in mind, this is a fantastic list. Botanicula is a great little game, and anything from Supergiant Games is a smash (really hoping we see Pyre and Hades come to Switch at some point). The only indie game I've played that I can think would be an underrated or overlooked gem is Baba is You. Couple others I loved from this decade, but not sure how "overlooked" they might be: Broken Age, Guacamelee, and Gato Roboto.

    You should try Ring Runner: Flight of the Sages. Start is a bit slow, but give it some time and you'll see that it's an amazing story-driven game with Asteroid-esque controls and heavy ship customization allowing wide range of playstyles, from stealth and target marking to brutally swinging giant space flail.

    I said YES out loud when I saw #1 pop up. Definitely one to go into as blind as possible. If you've played Ghost Trick, The Sexy Brutale is spiritually similar and a game more people need to check out.

    I don't want to start the good old "list" argument, but if a game got a sequel (Nidhogg, for example) or is from a highly established indie developer (like Thomas Was Alones Mike Bithell, Supergiant games, VVVVVV was one of the most well known indie games too). There's tons of underrated or unknown indie games that you could mention here.

    • @TadejVig
      @TadejVig 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GetIndieGaming Again, I didn't want to start the argument about lists, as of course they are subjective. My only criticism was that the title might not be really correct in this case.

    The Sexy Brutale is something I've wanted to try for a loooong time now, but was always postponing because I was accidentally spoiled about its ending and decided to wait for some time to pass. It's created by Tequilla Works who previously made RiME and it was a masterpiece... so I don't doubt for a second that this one is gonna be a masterpiece as well :D

  • @nicodemous52
    @nicodemous52 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Sexy Brutale had a pretty big marketing push, I remember it being advertised a lot, and I don't see many ads. I think the name is what made people dismiss it, I think most people assumed from the name and the marketing that it was something else.

    Really loved these two decade videos and although im not entirely agreeing with the lists and have some games i would personally have liked to see on the list like The Room Series, I find it quite enjoyable, but one thing that really bugs me is that its the wrong developer and publisher on Pyre as its a Supergiant Games game and that just bugs me as a huge SGG fan xD
