      Remember how Hillary and her supporters (mostly her supporters) called Bernie and his supporters sexists and sexual harassers? I sure as shit remember... funny how the biggest supporters of her are the real sexual harassers/sexists and they used it as a crutch to try and deflect from REAL criticism about Hillary....

      Stephen Mason No, one of the women said he preformed unwanted oral sex on her. That could have been rape..it might not have been, that statement is a bit vague. Another said he forced her hand on his dick, so sexual assault, if she's telling the truth.

      Apologize for what you did outright.

      Arun Mangrulkar or the excuse "they didn't say no or object". The question shouldn't be that but did they agree to it and whether he used his power to influence that decision.

    • @Wannabechefguy
      @Wannabechefguy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      I think people knew back then that rape was bad, but what defined rape back then is different. So, being raised up on the idea that just coercing women into sexual or intimate situations isn't the same as tackling her and forcefully having sex would lead to the mindset that Weinstein has. Not saying his actions aren't wrong. They are, but I wanted to at least give a tiny bit of insight to how people could think that way.

      I don't think Harvey meant any person. It was a lot more prominent of an issue in the 60's and 70's to see young actresses having sexual relations with producers or directors to get ahead. In saying that I don't believe it to be a viable excuse to sexually harass a woman or anyone for that matter

    To me, the Harvey Weinstein situation is just another example of an individual letting their influence and power get to their head and make them believe that they can do as they wish without repercussions. The excuse of him being from 60-70s generation is complete crap, it all comes down to how having power and influence warps an individual's morale compass or not, in his case it did.

    This is not a gender exclusive issue, and not Isolated to a single horrible person. It's both males and females who are being abused by a lot of powerful people in Hollywood. Corey Feldman wrote a very eye opening book a few years ago about the abuse that he, and other young actors were confronted with, as young and vulnerable entertainers.

    Yes let's build a 400 million dollar stadium (for free), then charge everyone who wants to view the games $10-$2000, charge $10 for parking, and sell overly priced food and merchandise.... Just to save the owner money? Who benefits from this... The owner, owners family, and the NFL copyright

    • @fogease
      @fogease 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      100% agree that this isn't where public money should go, but it isn't free. The stadium owners still have to pay back the debt and interest to whoever buys the bonds, but some or all of the profit made by the private investors is made tax exempt, subsidising higher taxed incomes who buy the stadium's debt.

What??? That's probably one of the lamest alibi and excuse that I've ever heard. The difference between the 60's-70's era and 2100's is that the people today are now more courageous to expose immorality from powerful men like you Mr. Weinstein, and the power of social media serves as the backbone for exposé.

    In this age where people are so quick to anger and call for the heads of whomever it is that has offended them. It's shocking to see a company actually handle it properly. They made a response that her view does not reflect those of the company that they have warned from further using her social media where it can be misinterpreted as ESPN's view on controversial topics. She then proceeded to do it again and told people to boycott advertisers who without a doubt advertise on ESPN or might. She was then suspended as per the warning they gave her. Will she get fired after the suspension? Maybe but it is great to see a company actually handle itself like a company should and not break under the weight of public outrage. I can't believe I am talking about ESPN.

    • @Callas4409
      @Callas4409 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Garfunkas Actually, she directly stated that she Was Not calling for a boycott. Also, she is on her own personal social media platform. Unless she's under a contract with ESPN, she can say what she feels. Unfortunately, that comes with consequences because you never wanna piss off the advertisers who write the biggest checks.

    • @BaanthVir
      @BaanthVir 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, she was using her own social media. Like I said she was asked to stop stating things that can be negatively reflected back on ESPN things that did not fall in line with their views or were too controversial while she was listed as an employee. She was warned not fired immediately. She then went right back at it after advertisers. Advertisers who without a doubt gave ESPN a call, where they decided it was best to remove her and maybe shock her into realizing they aren't kidding about the warning.

    Oh my God. This is terrfying. Imagining a young person who can not say anything against a person who hurt him or her only because that person is lower in the food chain. I know this happens. Happens to everyone in most businesses. But this is a whole new level. I am worried for my baby brother and sister, and for my nieces and nephews when they grow up. I'm afraid for the safety of everyone's children. I really hope this stops of not for the women and men who have been damaged this time, but for our children. I normally don't pray, but I hope that this never happens to anyone in any business in any position.

    • @SUZAKI955
      @SUZAKI955 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rick Harris I wish man. People need help. But there's a problem with that too. I have seen cases where victims would speak up, but then they were shunned. Most of them either lost their jobs, their families and friends. That's what happens when you are in a lower position. There's not much you can do because if you move, someone greater will smash you. No wonder why some people wait until they establish credibility before saying such things against their attackers. The only problem with that is people will start to wonder why the victims didn't say anything before hand. It's....horrible. All of this.

    • @SUZAKI955
      @SUZAKI955 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Davel Dasilva I cannot speak for these people, but I know some people who could not say anything or do anything in fear of ridicule, discrimination, and pure hostility. A close friend of mine was beaten by the spouse since the start of their marriage. Said friend could not leave because the sposes family threatened my friend. Now after raising four children and getting all of them through college and by having many many maaaanny jobs, my friend left the abusive spouse. It's just....when a person is weak, and he or she is violated by someone of high power, often raising a voice against is a sure way to not only lose a job or a family but ensures in losing everything else that one might hold dear.
      At this point. I am not sure what to do. How to we stop problems like this? What do we do? Limit women from venturing outside? Stop kids from going to school? I don't know anymore.

You are also right about the revenge part. I really can't say why some of victims didn't say anything, but I cannot speak for them. All I can say is that whoever is wronged will be righted. Whether by the Justice System, one's own willpower, or God. I hope and pray that things will be better for everyone.

    I think it's important to remember that when it comes to calling out high-profile celebrities for sexual misconduct, survivors almost always need to some sort of power or influence, too. And, if they don't have that, they'll need about 5+ other survivors to be able to corroborate before ANYONE would listen. I, for one, could out a LOT of people of influence who did utterly heinous, atrocious things while I was a child passed around in a dangerous ring of abuse -- in entertainment AND politics. But, I'm a nobody. When it comes to the unknown or the poor, the story becomes "They're in it for the money" and/or "They just want to get famous". They couldn't pooooossibly be being honest. This keeps countless victims silenced bc zero good can come from sharing. Your own life gets picked apart, new trauma emerges from countless corners, character assassinations get made, people don't believe you anyway, you RARELY see justice & you tend to become the villain more than the perpetrator.
    *It's great to see so many using their voice and speaking up, but its also important to remember they're only getting support bc they have influence and/or a fanbase, too.*

But I wouldn't say their lives het ruined lol, it's not like people actually hate the victims and shit, but the publicity of it can make things very hectic, which could ruin their lives, but I don't think it's the result of "rape culture" or because people actually hate the victim and support the rapist.

      It should still be made known, so that those who do believe you can at least do their part to boycott the celebrities. Also it'll start a rumour and may bring more supporters out. After all I only have to mention Richard Greer for so many people, and that rumour is false. That said I understand that it's difficult to come forward for many reasons, but I would 100% encourage ANY survivors of sexual misconduct to come forward.

      All it took was someone to actually be in it for money or fame and it ruined the while thing. Do not blame the public for having suspicions. Not to mention our legal system is SUPPOSED to be "innocent until proven guilty" But when it comes to things like rape it is "guilty until proven innocent" and THAT is wrong as well, a lot of men had their lives ruined by women who had consensual sex and regretted it, so what better way to get past it than to say it was rape? That is not to say it is all cases, but an alarming amount of them are like that.

I trust you to figure out what is true and what isn't, so please please please cover it. So far every other thing I hear online or on the news isn't true, and even attending my town hall meeting did not help. Please cover it, cover fire names and locations, where it's spreading. That's probably one of the lamest alibi and excuse that I've ever heard. The difference between the 60's-70's era and 2100's is that the people today are now more courageous to expose immorality from powerful men like you Mr. Weinstein, and the power of social media serves as the backbone for exposé.

      it has to speak to too much power in the hands of actors, directors and execs. They get to carry on like rockstars and have the personal connections to gatekeep on having a career. It has to undercut the protections against abuse. I doubt these businesses are built in a way that HR can take a complaint and sideline a director, exec etc. (it's a business where individual and relationships at the top might be worth hundreds of millions, while an emerging actor can be bought off, replaced, etc).
      I just think they could stand to make things more professional. To have abuse, you have to have a system that has an inbuilt tolerance for abuse. These women were maneuvered into meeting HW in hotel rooms! How does a business function that will create that situation repeatedly?

    If someone was raised without contact to the outside world in a home that taught that murder is okay as long as you're really angry enough, and then this person struggled to not murder people when trying to integrate with society, there wouldn't be all these bullshit excuses about how the way this hypothetical person was raised makes their murders any less wrong than any other murder... There are lots of people who were abused as kids and then go on to abuse their kids, and all of us know that "I was raised with values misaligned with society" is not any kind of excuse for beating their kids. This is the only situation where some people seem to think that this is a valid excuse, when they were "raised in a different time". ... So the fuck what? How does what year you were born make your crimes any fucking different? People need to stop with this bullshit

    So basically Hollywood protected Weinstein until they couldn't any longer? Does anyone else feel like not reporting sexual harassment is a real shitty thing to do? That's like not reporting a rabbid dog in the neighborhood that's running around biting people. You know he's going to continue until someone reports him and the authorities can take action. I think they protected him to save their careers, which is sickening weather or not they were harassed. Both can be true, you can be harassed and be a shitty person. That's just my take.

    • @johnsonjerrad
      @johnsonjerrad 7 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Side note: I realize that reporting sexual harassment can be traumatic, but isn't it more traumatic to be harassed in the first place? By going through some trauma and reporting sexual harassment, you can prevent a person (or persons) from the more traumatic experience of being sexually harassed in the future.

      I understand your sentiment, but a lot of the issue is that they're very likely not to be believed and will be twisted by the media to look like they are lying. We've seen how far these companies go to protect their money sources, so it's very possible that Weinstein would have put out a hit piece on the victim to discredit and humiliate. And with the internet as vindictive and gullible as it is, that harassment is probably something the victims don't want to deal with.

      Jerrad Johnson I dont think you understand how the world works, my boy. But we humans are selfish creatures. None of us do anything out of the kindness of our hearts because, by nature, we are evil. People in the media and in Hollywood wont speak out against people in higher positions because they can benefit from it. No human being is thinking about others, not friends, not loved ones. Thats the same reason I dont believe these people should be seen as heroes for speaking out. Some of them for 10-20 years, they allowed this guy to continue assaulting more and more women, and only decided now, at the opportune time, to strike back?
      In the case of why they dont speak out, its usually because they dont want to be ousted as the whistleblower. Basically, theyre scared of how they might be portrayed. Which, lets be honest, is completely stupid.

      The goal is to pick a person closest to the center; so you get the one in the center of the first half, and in the center of the second half, and see which one happens to be closer to where the two halves meet. It's retarded.
      If you know a bit of math, it's essentially finding the median by checking whether the first quartile or third quartile is closer. There's a reason no-body does that.
      Democrats say trump is a shit president elected by retarded Republicans, and wonder how someone so far from center got elected; yet they can't seem to understand that, evidently, Clinton was even farther from center than trump.
      It' rarely about which side has the better candidate anymore, it's all about who was worse.

    I do just have to say that ESPN did a great job of handling this situation. We're seeing more and more lately, and Phil even mentioned it recently, that people's jobs are the first place the public goes to when people say something publicly, which puts a lot of companies in awkward positions. In this case, ESPN did a great job of explaining that Jemele was entitled to her own opinion, even if it wasn't shared by the company, but that to post that opinion in a place where she represented ESPN was where she went wrong. She apologized and they forgave her, and it was a great way to handle the situation, assuming the rumors about replacing her were false. Then she turned around and almost spit in the face of that leniency by doing the exact same thing again. ESPN was completely justified in suspending her and I'll be surprised if she has a job after all of this.

    • @tdosage
      @tdosage 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree but this is not true for other situations. The person who worked for cbs last week was fired for saying something over Facebook. She wasn't a public name for cbs, but on her Facebook page, it stated that she worked for them and only through digging did people find her full connection so they bombarded cbs saying she represented them causing her to get fired. Not that I agree with her or don't honk she deserved punishment for what she said, but in these situations, saying things publicly online seems to immediately connect you to your job no matter the level of public representation and so companies are finding themselves in awkward positions like this more and more and I just feel that ESPN did the best job of covering themselves while still not necessarily punishing someone for what they do in their personal lives.

I myself was abused sexually and manipulated by a gay woman, and have been ridiculed for speaking up about it. As for Jemele Hill.. ESPN must REALLY like her. She must do an exceptional job, because they could have easily fired her. Simply from looking at how other public figures are treated by the companies they work for, she got extremely lucky. The first tweets were already bad, then she comes back and does it again?? She needs to start playing the lotto.

      They're also between a rock and a hard place. A black woman on a sports show? If they fire her, there's going to be outrage out the ass. If it were a white dude saying this, he'd have been canned after the first tweet.

      If they don't follow their suspension/termination guidelines to the tee they open themselves to multi million dollar wrongful termination suits

      SBCannon more like it would hurt the company to fire her . They don't want to risk a lawsuit and PR disaster .

    ESPN gave her a warning, and she didn't listen. She deserves the consequences of her actions. That's it. She should be thankful ESPN didn't fire her in the spot like other companies have done before. She should have been thankful for a warning, and she blew it.

      So by your logic Trump should be fired too for telling people to protest, right? Oh wait she's black so she isn't allowed.

      What are you talking about? This is an employee breaking the rules two times inba row and being punished for it. That's it. It has nothing to do with skin color. And I have no idea what the Trump protest nonsense is suppose to mean.

      The Dude some could say women are protected more because "diversity". And because she's a black woman, I could understand why they wanted to keep her. However with her actions, I probably would have fired her the after her first offense.

    Are the 70s a valid excuse for Rolf Harris and Jimmy Saville also?
