The video for "Anybody Listening?" was my introduction to Queensryche. Before then I wasn't aware of them. This song kind of knocked my socks off, and I immediately looked into their back catalog. To my delight, their songs were consistently fantastic. They had the exact mix of ingredients to their songs that I hadn't really found anywhere else: Intensity, power, melodic harmonies, a heavy edge, good interesting and meaningful lyrics, dramatic build, stellar musicianship from all, pounding drums, and unparalleled VOCALS! They were the whole package for me!
Yea it’s tough … I like their harder albums like Warning, Rage for Order and Mindcrime … Empire was great just in my opinion started to go too soft mainstream rock compared to their earlier releases.
Such and awesome song. I'm in the crowd in the video (filmed at Madison, WI) and is still the best show I've seen ... tied with Maiden's Powerslave tour.
I had no idea that vid was taken in Madison. I grew up in a small town in southwest WI and QR was huge when I was in junior high & hs. Was the venue from this video at The Coliseum?
@@rexsephe yes, at the coliseum. Venue was large enough and they figured without a sold out crowd, there would be room for cameras and equipment to film. A few clips are from LaCrosse and/or Green Bay.
@@billwell9266 Wow! That is cool that The Empire album has ties to Wisconsin. Do you know which venue in Lacrosse was included in this vid? Was it the Resch Center in GB? Also, I'm so fricking jealous that you got to see some of the Power Slave tour! By far my favorite Iron Maiden album. Wasn't there a gigantic mummified Eddie head that floated over the stage after splitting through a massive stage prop pyramid? Listening to Rime of the Ancient Mariner would have been absolutely epic in that environment!
They had a magazine article. That said Empire was recorded so perfectly. That record producers were setting equipment to how that album was set for other bands.
Best song after Chris DeGarmo left is The RIght Side of My Mind from Q2K album. Live from the Moore Theatre in 2001 is a killer version where Tate is just incredible.
You've just asked us to pick our favorite child! Can't be done! The thing is both albums are wonderful in different ways. I LOVE both of them! But if I HAD to choose....I'd have to go with Operation:Mindcrime. I believe Geoff left the band in 2012. 🥺 A fatal blow! Also, Chris's departure left a gaping hole in the songwriting and performance chemistry. The FIVE of them TOGETHER were pure MAGIC! I really miss that lineup. No one could equal them, IMO.
DeGarmo was the soul of QR. The original lineup was the best live band I ever saw, and I'm ancient,. My firs Concert was Frank Zappa. The Building Empires Tour this Show was from was most of Empire and then then ALL of Mindcrime. Saw them countless times and this tour was the pinnacle of what a Show could be. They were one of the first bands to use headset mics, and no amps or gear visible on stage. Just them and some ramps and they all were showmen. If not for them there would be no Dream Theater. Queensryche developed an audience for bands like them, Fates Warning and countless others. They couldn't sustain this level like Maiden, but I saw both at their peaks, and Queensryche were better.
Please do not compare QUEENSRYCHE to Dream Theater because QUEENSRYCHE is in a whole other category... They are the Greatest Progressive Metal band of all time and YES I have no fear to Scream in Digital...
@@MetalHead-ks9zq Yes, but he was responsible for Hear in the Now, which not many supported. Of course things changed when Chris left, but they were already changing when he was still there.
Mindcrime is a masterpiece. Empire is only great. 😁 Side note: I'm pushing 60 and still spin Mindcrime 2 or 3 times a year in it's entirety. Mindcrime is in my top 10 all-time greatest albums. 🤘
During their EP, Warning, Rage for Order and Operation Mindcrime era they were known as the “American Iron Maiden” … then transitioned into the “American Pink Floyd / DefLeppard …. Even though I do love Empire I prefer their earlier music. After Empire I dont care much for their new music. Die hard early Queensryche fan over here.
Yeah that really became clear to me today. Been listening to the album since my 20s and I was thunder struck today. Searched the lyrics and yep.... Could swear on the album the lyric goes: 'Love our stage to flay upon'..... Every live version I've hear is: 'Love our stage to play upon' and the lyrics said the same...
Like, there’s no comparison between Operation: Mindcrime and Empire. Mindcrime is a masterpiece of a concept album. Empire is a totally different style, but just as good in its own right, and some say, a pseudo-concept album. How does one band change their style so drastically from one album to another, and make it work and still sound unique and like themselves? Thus is the mystery of QR. I agree with what @gaybarz posted below. I love Rage, Mindcrime and Empire equally, but for different reasons. They did nothing as excellent after, for sure, though they continued to make good music.
Which one of you's is the Musician.? cuz you both Jerks!... lol Hello! Ok, you dear Wife was absolutely right when the went flat during the duet/back up harmonies, towards the end of the song. Keen ear she has, and the rest ain't too bad either. Great work guys, I watch all the time, but hardly ever comment. I am a DT baby from 1995.. and now Mike's back. Kuttos
Great track/ video from a flat out stupendous album
Smoothest S&M song ever....
Besides vocals and guitars I think Scott on drums is under estimated.
You will love this band kicks ass, always a fan need more from this band ,IS ANYBODY LISTENING,is a good video to check out

Mindcrime 10 out of 10 times! My favorite album of all time.
Fan since 84 and I cannot answer that poll. Between Rage, Mindcrime & Empire I could never pick one over the other 2. I love each of them equally.

Miss the original line up so much
Mindcrime is their masterpiece, but sometimes Rage for Order gets me. Empire is great and has more mass appeal, but Rage was so different .
Two songs after Chris left: "Rhythm of Hope", and "The Right Side of My Mind" (Live)
"Rage for order" is all day long their best album.
The greatest band ever, if you want to learn about them, start from their original LP.

Not Manowar 🤔?

I've seen them live 4 times. One of the only bands that I can say sounds better live.

Geoff & Chris didn't miss... they sing that part the same in the studio version and live performances
Mindcrime for me there master peace
Love this.. do THE WARNING DISCIPLE OR 23 LIVE AT TEATRO METROPOLITAN CDMX 2022 OR THE WARNING EVOLVE AT THE 2023 MTV VMAs..
O:MC. Picking individual songs from that album can't compare to the narrative power and both musical and lyrical storytelling of the album as a whole.

The best hard rock/ metal albums of all time
1. Operation Mindcrime
2. Rage For Order and Empire tied
3. The Warning
3,1,2 is how I would arrange them.

After DeGarmo left, Queensryche kind of lost their way imho. That said I would say the "Operation Mindcrime 2" album is decent.
I think you need to listen to something from Promised Land before doing a song from their post DeGarmo era...
A couple great modern era Queensrÿche songs are Guardian or Light-Years. Both cool picks.
They were an amazing band…but they were not close personally…they never hung out socially..it’s weird they could collaborate but weren’t friends
Your comment goes against everything I've read and watched about them...🤔
