    Never knew the large cooling tower is more efficient than multiple small ones. Thanks. Looks like you get to keep the like this time. 🙂

    Thermal desalination 2nd recipe 12 used steam in 24 water out plus 9 salt water which can be used or dumped pollution free. Combine this with exhaust filtration and you can double your water. I got 8 exhaust filtration plant feeding 16 desalination plants providing 144 water surplus.

      Yep tying recipes together can give great bonus, I just setup exhaust filtration myself for steel, and it makes enough clean water to power itself and also provides water for copper smelting

    I've never though about using reusing depleted steam for desal, I always just run it back through a cooling tower. I might need to rethink future power setups for this then.
    Also, personally I think the waste treatment is pretty important because keeping that 160 waste water out of the ocean massively cuts down on pollution. Important for health and diseases.

    I do love this game. It is daunting AF now that I'm trying to build research level 3 stuff. The sheer number of recipes and how everything is produced and consumed is eye watering. Also, I don't know why I couldn't find this video on my own literally yesterday as I was trying to figure out the best way to do this, but then it finally pops up on my feed.

    Very well prepared and presented, thanks! I also like your playthroughs but your tutorials are awesome. Just for the sake of completeness, there is also an outpost with a groundwater well, worth to be mentioned in the context.

      Yep I forgot about the water trade, I thought it looked alright, but after actually using it in game, I don't think it provides enough water for its cost.

    Nice Turorial JD. I love your content and you energy. To be really accurate, i think you should add up workers and elecricity consumption of sea water pumps and dumps when you compare systems.

    Question, i saw that you were putting the excess clean water into the liquid dump, could i just put a water storage on the end of the pipe balancer so i can use that water elsewhere on my island?

    I've been running vacuum desalination with all my power plants it's so much more efficient than just running desalination on it own, my nuclear plant have 27 vacuum desalination units each, 24 for the primary cooling loop, and 3 for the emergency loop, emergency loop is high pressure steam compared to the primary loop that is depleted steam, each nuclear plant makes 72 water/setup extra, so chain 3 power plants you have 216 extra water, so each nuclear plant uses 288 water and makes 360,love this damn game😂😂

      Thats awesome Ill get to nuclear eventually!

    Wow I'm ashamed I didn't notice the large cooling tower I've got a huge factory that has a ton of those small ones

  • @RigItRay
    @RigItRay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Could be useful to have a power plant generate water. I remember nuclear needing tons of water in beta.

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well if you need at least 5MW of power at all times, it would be nice if that output always made water for you :)

    Hey JD, is it possible to have different fluids running through the same pipe? EG I want to dump various waste fluids through the same system... I thought this was possible but it seems to cause fluids to back up?

    • @thefactorymustgrowlarger3947
      @thefactorymustgrowlarger3947 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      a segment can only have 1 type of fluid at any time, so low quantities works okay, but as you have noticed things will quickly back up.

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not really, one fluid type in a pipe at a time, I guess with some tanks and a balancer you could force the issue. But In the lets play I did manage to use the same water dump for 2 liquids, but it was 2 pipes with a connector right at the end which went directly into the liquid dump, Connectors buffer some items, which meant when it swapped liquids it tended to dump quite a bit before swapping again

    • @SuperSaddlers1990
      @SuperSaddlers1990 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      could be possible with sporadic amounts i suppose using a balancer but not sure in what situation this would be preferred to using multiple liquid dumps?

    i have a nuclear plant directly connected to 24 desalination plants and that is producing massive water outlet.... at the cost of meltdown every so often because it outputs more steam than they can handle (I did the math, you can check my math, it should work) however it does need to be connected in 3 sets of 8 for it to work correctly or else SOMEONE will back up and cause a meltdown....
    so yes, Nuclear is fun, nuclear is so much fun it gets excited for no logical reason other than it wants to be excited...
    So, I put a vent at the steam so that it can vent excess steam, it's happy now... I guess...

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I setup one like this during a stream, My also melted down once, turns out it was a backup of clean water and/or brine

    • @SkashTheKitsune
      @SkashTheKitsune 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JDPlays I set it up so that it's 8x8x8 all isolated from each other and it still melts down, each block of 8 has it's own waste water, each block of 8 has it's own seawater, each has it's own line going into the large tank... and the steam backs up...
      But when you have the flute to vent overflow at the start, you push out more water than the Murray!

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh 8 at a time thats your problem. You need more sea water than a MK3 pipe can move, Mine is setup in 4x6 for Sea Water and 2x12 for Brine

      Its one of my test maps. Testing max dig depth. which means there is a lot of rock to dump on the map somewhere. But it had a LOT of straight coast line which is what i wanted!

    Speaking of mining, why can't we build mine shafts?

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because you cant mine underground? Also you would need a VERY big elevator to get the excavators in and out!

    • @mihaipuscasu7357
      @mihaipuscasu7357 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JDPlaysthere is no need for escavators. Just workers. Could work just like the wells slowly depleting the resource. It is quite hard to mine deep deposits and the islands are too small for proper surface mines.

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you just need workers i guess the world mines could be considered mine shafts then

    Just coming along to say this video is super helpful and you can keep the Like. That being said, water makes me not want to play at this point. It's frustrating to try and advance with how much water is required, and how frustrating it is to produce. Especially since you need water to make water! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
