      I've seen refineries in person and those pipes NEVER looked straight or even made sense to me, it always seemed that whoever installed them was charging by the distance and they took the shortest route possible!

    I found your channel two days ago. This video made me join as a member. Nuclear power? Breeder reactor? These were intimidating, but I managed to figure them out on my own. Oil? Especially oil with self- balancing outputs with a focus on hydrogen? It's been nothing but a headache every time I've looked at it, and here you come, riding in with a freely-offered blueprint that answers all the problems!
    Frickin' cheers, you earned the few bucks I've tossed in!

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you so much mate! I really hope this works well for you, Actually remember it has a flare for 'burning' off extra Hydrogen so pause that and use ALL you want! It was designed as jack of all trades yet master of none, so it should give you a LOT of hydrogen and also make sure that the fuel gas tank remains full for those things that just use fuel gas and don't have a hydrogen recipe

  • @Gyrono
    @Gyrono ปีที่แล้ว +5

    2 things I would add to the build: 1 is an exhaust scrubber to convert any exhaust in the system into extra sulfur, less polluting CO2 and free low-pressure steam power. 2 is while the thermal desalinatior does provide too much water, that excess water can be dumped so why not use one anyway for the brine.

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I added one to this system in a live stream and it can be done without to much trouble, BUT the pipes look like a mess, that is topped off with you then need to remove all the exhaust stacks and replace them again complicating the overall process and shooting of the video which honestly was already fairly long.

    Absolutely wonderful build here
    Definitely beats my oil build with how compact this is without spaghetti
    Also now that you mention powering by reactors I will make it my goal to hook up my fast breeder to it

    Brilliant piece of work, how you work out all the ratios and feeds is beyond me. Had issues when I first had it all built, it all stopped working because the sour water stripper was backed up with output water..... then a realised I had plugged the water feed tank into the system one step down so wasnt going through the balancer... corrected and now working perfectly... great job JD.

    I look forward to the devs adding coloring to pipes. Hopefully instead of coloring the whole pipe and the map looking like an easter egg hunt they use the ANSI standard with colored bands at connections and every x feet.
    Initially I ran my steam from assorted boilers thru a balancer to force the system to use fuel gas first, then naptha etc. But later once you have 2 ships bringing oil in... wasting oil is w/e.

    • @JayRay4924
      @JayRay4924 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Is it sad that as soon as I saw "coloring to pipes" I thought of the ANSI labeling standard before reading the rest of your comment? I might have worked in plants too long (and spent way too much money on pipe labeling)...

    Neat Rubber setup! Did not know about using 2 fluids in one building like this.
    For some Reason, I used Fuel Gas directly in my boilers and converted excess to Diesel.
    For ages now, I always used a 324 Oil and 77 Water to 400 Diesel Setup
    6x the Distillation I II III;
    4x Cracking Unit for Naphtha (optional Extraction of 0-100% Naphtha);
    3x Cracking Unit Heavy Oil;
    3 Sour Water Stripper;
    1 Cracking Unit Fuel Gas; 2 Boiler Fuel Gas (boilers prioritized over Cracking Unit) Setup
    I need to Adapt the Hydrogen Reformer for its improvement in power consumption and water usage.
    One thing I do not like in your setup is that sulfur and Diesel are interlocked. While Diesel is mostly constant and only changes early or if you start trading it to gold. Sulfur needs multiple adaptions and fine-tuning throughout the game. Early, you want to guarantee Acid, Rubber and Hydrogen fluoride, which heavily fluctuate. While only using excess for fertilizer and only in extreme cases dump it. Later, you tend to import Sulfur to keep up with fertilizer, since food is still one of the best trading goods. A clean Sulfur Setup with its own buffering and prioritization and easy scalability is a must-have in my opinion.
    Also, I’m no fan of its size. I think this setup might be too Small for 180 Vehicles (not sure about that). And it is definitely too small if you start Trading Diesel to Gold. Usually, I just copy my existing Diesel Setup then. Your setup includes byproducts you probably do not want to expand simultaneously with Diesel.
    "PERFECT" is a bold description
    Your Setup is really nice for early and midgame maybe even a bit overengineered (in a good way : P)
    But later on, I prefer separated Setups for each/most products.

    I worked on something like that at a little bigger scale and I was really happy with it! Game progressed, upgraded buildings and things looked great… until I realized I was off by one air separator. And of course because it was so tightly built I had no room to add it. But it looked so great I just ignored it 😉
    Well done! Thanks for sharing all you blueprints, great way to learn production lines. And explaining it all in videos for extra points!

    Nice work JD! I had a hard time making my mega oil factory like this on You Shall Not Pass and your build would have solved some of the issues (with gas, particularly) Can't wait to try it out with vertical pipes!
    I wish you would have split it in 2 down the middle with some ramps, to have more truckies going through it though!

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You would need a large bridge at least to split it in the middle, there are 9 pipes at the front, then a set of 7 pipes & belts, then another 2 at the rear!
      But being a modular build you could split it in half yourself quite easily

    Looks good! I'm going to use it for inspiration to build my own, since we can put balancers in the sky now. Also I'm thinking of importing sea water and to make the brine for the plastic, and letting the whole thing be clean-water positive and use that water for farms and other stuff.

    This is just ridiculously good content. What a great blueprint. Seeing that it is useful at each stage of the game was an eye opener. I relied on my own production until I had all the tech unlocked because I didn't realise you'd thought so far ahead. Great job mate!

  • @TheGrimgaw
    @TheGrimgaw ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You could make this build 'Perfecter' by changing the Hydrogen output balancer to make it prefer staying in the refinery instead going to storage (further production) as it's a positive feedback loop. More Hydrogen for cracking = more Fuel Gas = more Hydrogen. then by all means skim the surplus to storage (further production).

  • @DFWanderingKid
    @DFWanderingKid ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I'd been waiting for this from you. Lovely build, thanks. The rest is just discussion.
    I find it interesting that section 1 of the build starts with the steam for the electric build, basically. It's rather steam positive (not as good as it was in 0.4 unfortunately, you can't 1:1 anymore) instead of just draining off the Heavy Directly... I'm sure there's reasons that I'll see soon enough...
    Interesting. You discussed all the technologies, but you missed a HUGE one you need to make this work which is WAY down the chain. Pipe III... ah... there, you discussed it. Considering Pipe III is so important, I figure Storage III should be too. Anyway, trying to FIND those Level II's to upgrade them in the spaghetti is going to be a nightmare... and sending 320 oil down a Pipe II (4 refinery III's + the steamers) is going to be tough without it. Is there a secondary flow pipe in the build somewhere I'm missing?
    On your steam count for Sour Water, its 48 (4 Refinery III's) + 9 (3 Sour Water Stripppers) + 12 (2 Refinery I's). Yeah, not flat out though, as mentioned, but when accounting for the Refinery I steam it has to pay for itself too in the calculations. It's net steam production (per cycle) is 6/6.75 *48 + 1/6*48 = ~42.5 + 8 = 50.5/cycle - 6 for the Refinery 1 = 44.5 steam/cycle. You'll need both of them just to run the Refinery III's, but only 1 to run the refinery II's.
    I like the Dump canister for excess sulfur from Exhaust Scrubbing, nice touch. I typically stick it somewhere else but it's a nice place on the build. Curious: How do you keep it from going in a circle from the Sulfur outbound and going in a loop back into the system, besides the obvious Advanced Logistics?
    I'm confused about the calculation on the Heavy -> Naphtha -> Diesel conversion. I think the middle conversion is a loss because of the H2 costs due to steam + electrical. Might be worth it for convenience though. 36 Fuel Gas -> 42 H2 costs 3 steam. 3 steam costs 4.5 H2 (in direct pricing, you /can/ get it elsewhere). It costs 12 additional H2 to return 12 additional Fuel Gas, so that's net. However, when you include the Electrical POWER cost for the 1.5 H2 you're netting in the end, is it worth it? You have to convert the extra Naphtha and the extra Fuel Gas, which would be 2 cycles of Naphtha at 200kw + a change of 1 every 6 cycles for the Fuel Gas with Heavy -> Diesel to 1 every 2 with Hvy->Naphtha->Diesel, so 125kw... 325kw drain. With all the new power costs I'm just not sure on the new math. Yes, it's nit-picking, but we're talking about 1.5 H2 for doing extra conversions, so it seems appropriate.
    Thank you as always.

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you. As for your discussion points, I ignore the cost of power, thats simply how it is, Captain of Industry is so interlinked there is no way to take everything into consideration, you only mentioned power costs, but how about the cost of the people to run the machines? the maintenance costs? the cost of the construction parts the list goes on! and where does your power come from? is it from burning oil? is it from solar? coal? nuclear? how much does 1 KW of power cost you? well that is also another large variable that will change with each playthru and stage of the game!
      There comes a point when you just have to say ok this build given these constraints works and its the best its going to be without adding a bunch of edge cases or doubling up on all the piping to account for unique usage situation
      Oh and How to stop a Sulfur loop? Have the output box left with default settings, and have the input box ALSO marked with default settings, that way trucks wont take from one or deliver to the other. If they need sulphur they will take from the output box, and if they are picking up from say a exhaust scrubber else where on the map, they might put it into the output box (if there is space and as its belt feed i doubt there is space) so they would instead dump it into the input box instead!

    • @DFWanderingKid
      @DFWanderingKid ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@JDPlays RE Sulfur loop: ... and with that, I feel like an idjit. Makes perfect sense. Let them dump into either Sulfur reserve, you don't care... and shouldn't.
      Yeah, I get the idea of the additional variables. Everything else just added to the cost for the additional 1.5 H2 because of the additional machines. More manpower, etc etc. However, your point is well taken. Trying to absorb the entire ecosystem at once is too much for a game that you're trying to enjoy. :)
      Thanks as always for the discussion and great ideas!

    My first attempts were stymied by not having access to the later buildings so I didn't have a good way to plan far ahead for expansion. I _thought_ about going highly modular but as this game is wont to do to me, by the time I was finished all the _other_ problems going-on turns-out it's going to be easier to just redo the entire thing. If only I knew how big the large dock was. :(

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Large dock is 8 storages beside one another to account for the modules PLUS the little bit extra for where diesel goes in, I dont have a exact answer in tiles but I know on our discord it has been discussed many times. I also did a video on cargo docks with the exact spacing required! but I can never remember that number myself hence i re-watch that part of the video often!

    why not include acid production? imo it's easier to pipe acid over to copper than truck sulfer over for local production and "waste" diesel.

    • @DFWanderingKid
      @DFWanderingKid ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You end up using Sulfur a bunch of places, and in low quantities. It's typically not a big deal to just truck it compared to running huge pipes of acid all over, when you have to truck the sulfur around anyway for other things.

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I hadn't consider the power of the mixer 2 and doing acid on site, and previously as DFWanderingKid said you need sulphur in low quantities else where already so if its already on a truck why not truck it as well?

    Any reason why you didn't have multiple types of fuel/gas/oil going into a gas boiler, instead of the 1x boiler for each type that you used?

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Two reasons, 3 Boilers might of been enough but risked a issue where 2 fluids needed to be burnt off at the same time, and 4 fit better. Also if you wish to add scrubbing, then its much easier if they are not burning mixed fluids that output mixed gases, due to the lack of a gas filter. It can be done, but thats well outside the scope of this video!

    @JDPlays, here are a few things for you.
    1: The setup allows too many problems to occur; You're allowing pollution to escape when you reach the in-game, which is a problem; You cannot let such things happen, so having all that pollution Escape is not okay.
    2: I'm noticing here is the oil setup isn't using oil at its maximum throughput capacity; you're only using a partial amount to use 100% oil with a tier 3 pipe; you're going to need eight rows of processing and a complete setup to handle Mac flows of fuel you also need more fuel capacity to take the maximum number of trucks right now the design can only manage around 90 to 100 vehicles, and that's more of a mid-game point.
    3: Your system won't be able to utilize the fuel gas access that will occur; you probably need to recycle everything more reasonably. Also, the water lost will be minimal if you use it to process all the access to sour water, so your system needs to include a lot of stuff. But I agree you are minimizing your water loss to an efficient point but need to utilize everything correctly.
    4: Is that you are making it as a module system; It'ss doing what you wanted to do, but you are overstating this capacity, and it's misleading people into believing that this is the most maxed-out version of oil capacity production when it's not, and stating that you're not going to be using a lot of this excess stuff on the side but also releasing pollution since the sky with overflows and other setups you're just giving people a disaster waiting to happen.

      Hi Guardian, So to answer your questions
      1. I can and have allowed all that pollution to escape, that isn't a problem at all. It is only a problem if players have to many other Guardiand pollution sources
      2. I never said it used ALL the oil in a T3 pipe, not once. Also I have this exact build running supporting the maximum number of trucks in a live map right now being 40 Mega excavators and 75-80 Dump trucks with no issue what so ever
      3. I don't understand what your saying, it does handle fuel gas, as well as sour water
      4. See points 1 and 2

      @@JDPlays all right: I double-checked; I misunderstood what was said in the video, so you're right. It doesn't cover everything; It was just in all the one-purpose oil setups; I apologize for that.
      But I will make this statement this oil setup does not handle tier 3 vehicles due to the consumption rate of those Vehicles; They're much higher and do a lot more, so it doesn't take it, and I'm sitting on my gameplay with 180 vehicles.
      I tried something similar to the setup you have here for a blueprint, and it was not working out for me because the fuel demand I needed was too high for the setup.
      So keep in mind I'm running with 24 excavators and 84 dump trucks up tier 3. You'll discover quickly that once you start progressing from tier 2 to tier 3 vehicles, the dramatic difference in fuel consumption will be huge.

      Same oil build 160 total vehicles at start of the stream, and 180 at the end of the stream with 10K Diesel in storage. Please stop telling me that X cant do Y, this blueprint might not suit your play style or someone else's because they have a fleet of 100 ships and are forcing their T3 trucks to drive across the map! All I can tell you is I have tested this blueprint with over 100 T3 Trucks without issue. If it becomes a issue, the best part about blueprints is you can paste down a second one quite easily!

    you couldve actually posted your blueprint link in a 5 min vid instead of a 30 min vid and get same amount of views or more. there are blueprints in the game you can share with each other.

      I could have, and have done in the past. Then I have many comments on how to put the blueprint together as its not obvious to some people. Hence I show how to build it in a complete video so those who wish to have more instructions now can.

    Thanks for the video. But... why can't anyone talk normally as soon as they upload a video to TH-cam? Have you ever sat in a seminar for an hour where the trainee speaks like Mickey Mouse on drugs? No, because no one can stand that. Sorry, then I'd rather have a PDF with 100 pages that doesn't annoy me with a squeaky voice that makes you think you're hearing the fairground announcer on the carousel.

    You videos are very good, you explain very well and your tutorials helped me tremendously in my playthroughs. However, you speak so fast, it's insane... sometimes I have to back the video because I didn't get everything you've said. Slow down your speech pace dude. It makes me feel like you are on borrowed time and doesn't hacve much time left...... you know what I mean.
