- Today on Experts Play we have US Navy Pilot David Gregor in to try out Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. Having already reacted to Ace Combat 7 last year we thought it only fair for David to return and try out the game for himself and put his skills to the test. Whilst flying David gives an in-depth overview of how realistic the game feels, how the plane handles, and other key details. Be sure to let us know what you thought of today's playthrough?
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, like the rest of the Ace Combat series, forgoes a realistic flight model in favor of arcade-like gameplay to make it more accessible to gamers. Furthermore, players can select Novice or Expert control settings; the latter allows them to perform realistic aircraft maneuvers, such as rolls and high-G turns. As with previous entries in the series, most of the aircraft are real-life licenses, although some fictional superplanes are also included.

I think he could've handled normal difficulty, and definitely expert controls. It would also be useful to let them know what units the HUD is displaying.

An actual fighter pilot is handicap by normal mode instead of expert. I am just cringing that he is not do his thing.
I also would have liked to see him be able to use the cockpit view with all the instrument panels and get his thoughts on that.

@@samuelmoua1366 Casual controls are a handicap always. Every play against someone using them online? Turn-fighting simply doesn't work. Especially if you get them horizontal.

would be interisting to see him react to the falkens, the vr cockpit is cool but would be actually that much better? etc.
The F-35 basically does the same thing, just without removing the glass canopy; removing the glass canopy isn't worth it, because the glass is treated so it doesn't inhibit stealth, and the visual improvements you gain aren't substantial enough to warrant the risk of motion blindness, camera failure, or additional maintenance the cameras would require. Besides, you might as well just remove the pilot altogether when relying entirely on cameras, because the pilot is going to have the same vulnerability to electronic warfare as a drone, and the drone has more benefits in flight.
In Ace Combat's case though, the Falken aircraft are using a neural interface that makes a glass canopy useless, because the information is going directly to the brain. How useful that might be is completely beyond us to guess, because it would be several generations ahead of anything we have, so like an Me 262 pilot trying to anticipate what war would be like in Vietnam.

Glad to see David back. You should've enabled expert controls for him though. Based from all the stunts he did, he could have easily handled it.

Bruh why yall give him normal controls. It restricts so much movement. He's a real pilot im sure he could handle expert controls
Everytime playing Ace Combat, always turn on "Expert" control in game setting. This is how to make Ace Combat feels good to play & watch since anyone can see what maneuvers used by players. Without turning on "Expert" control, every maneuvers performed by players very bland to see & feel. This also makes enemy missiles hard to dodge.
They should have named it "Beginner Controls" and "Standard Controls"
Want realism, play war thunder on realism or simulation

Yeah as someone who's got the platinum trophy and thus spent well over 50 hours on Ace Combat 7, gotta say Gamology dropped the ball on this one when they didn't give him expert controls.
Overall he still got the gist, AC7 is definitely arcade-y and not meant to be treated as a flight simulator like DCS, but I just think he would've enjoyed it a little more if he was on the realistic controls.
Maybe you can get him to come back and try out the F-18 in VR!
Honestly if I were him I'd be debating coming back at all. Every time people only showcase just beginner controls it sells the game way short. Beginner controls are ubisoft flying levels of clunky to me
I hope the people who are gonna make the next ace combat game watch this video.
He's given alot of very interesting ideas for game play mechanics...
Engine Failure: where you have to maneuver the plane without thrust until you can restart your engine.
Single engine failure on a multi engine plane: where you have to maneuver with half thrust.
Location damage: where depending where enemies are hit it could result in them losing maneuverability or having engine failures of their own
Different Detection and UI to match the generation of the plane. (Never made sense how a cold war era plane has the exact UI and computer system as a modern super fighter jet.)
That'd be a cool mechanic in 8. It could be an unlockable "realistic" mode you could unlock after beating the game on Ace difficulty. Y'know, so you could add some spice after you've run through the campaign like five times.

I'd agree in principle. Problem is, I don't think most Ace Combat gamers have the patience to play a full sim. Especially If you take away the Ace Combat gimmicks that aren't present in Sims like DCS and such. But I do like this cat David 👍🏾
@@theguylivinginyourwalls I was worried for 7 because in past titles Ace meant if you get touched by one missile you die. I started medium, then found out it only really changes enemy aggression levels so I ran through on hard and I don't play under Ace anymore. I like it when they present a bit of a threat

This man deserves respect. He's able to recall an entire university textbook's worth of knowledge while performing fast paced takss that require a high level of hand eye coordination

I mean that would be the case for any field that requires certain skills to be hone to the Max. You study a specific field to master it’s knowledge and skill
@@solismax65 True except that fighter pilots have to tkae that to the extreme. Those fighter pilots have to do complex math equations in thwir head and perform complex maneuvers as fast as humanely possible

Most of the features that Gamology needs to feature on the part 2 of the Ace Combat 7 video:
-Post stall maneuver
-Special weapons (air to ground, air to air, air to ship, electronic countermeasures, railgun)
-Cockpit view
-Expert controls on the entire gameplay+ David flying other varieties of planes such as the F/A-18F and its block 3 version, F-35C, and F-22
-Carrier takeoff and landing sequences for some planes that have that feature
-Aerial refueling
-David analyzing the fictional planes
-David analyzing the special weapons
-FLARES
Should’ve given him the F-35 to play with since this game has it and he literally pilots them

All the comments saying “Give the lad expert controls” and they’re right. I think he would’ve enjoyed it more, could’ve done more maneuvers, and explained all if not most of them. Also at least giving him some toys like the F-15C, A-10, maybe some SU/MiG aircraft, and the Eurofighter Typhoon? That is sort of a big ask considering plane costs in game though to be fair….
If we only had the dislike counter so that next time you'll have him use Expert Controls and show him the cockpit view.

I always enjoy listening to an expert speak their experience IQ to regular people. It feels almost like a puzzle solving game where you try to make sense of what they are saying, how it applies and understand why they do something or dont do something. It is completely useless information to an average person, but I think of it as like a thought exercise in evaluating and navagating a challenge and it really could just be any challenge. Even a challenge as simple as a conversation which is not always that easy to navagate.
It’s all fun and games until you hear

He's fun to watch his instincts won't let him go in low and fast and double tap every target because knows the real consequences of that behavior. Also the commentary is very informative and interesting I hope he keeps it up.

I hope they bring him back to talk more about the aircrafts themselves next time. Maybe giving him choice as to what aircraft to go with based on the mission for future missions
It will be nice to see David react to DCS or War Thunder. DCS is more sim-like with up to full control in cockpit while War Thunder is an accessible, half-simulator-half-arcade gameplay but the damage models are amazing for a game.
You should show him the crazy stunts people pulled off in the game.
Also, the reason why people are pissed because Expert Controls grants more freedom.

I remember last time the editor did him dirty so I am glad he's back. Though this time Gamology did as least edit as possible I still appreciated it. It is hard to help the audience catch up with his fast talking saturated with that much information.

In his previous video, people ranted because he didn't react to a gameplay with expert controls. Now you LET a REAL PILOT play with novice controls? WTF? This is painful
Whoever was in charge of that honestly has to go. Just fire them at this point. Why so harsh? Because everyone that only presents the game in beginner controls makes it look boring and uninteresting to anyone watching. These shitty videos are actually killing the Ace Combat community.
Of all the things you guys made him play ace combat without expert controls and at normal difficulty, beside that ace combat should have been at mid place or at last to play. Instead gamology should have made him play DCS, War thunder and IL 2 sturmovik in VR or at least track ir first. Want him to play ace combat at higher difficulty with expert controls and in vr.

I understand that you wouldn’t want to give him an expert controls level from the get go, since he could be not very used to controllers - but it becomes obvious that he could probably handle the expert controls + cockpit view. It would have made it even more interesting.

It's like someone who is perfectly healthy and fit being told they have to sit in a wheelchair for the duration. Except you can actually have fun with a wheelchair.
F16C carries 510 rounds of 20 mm and carries about 6 missiles. I use to work on F15 weapons during my time in military, literally the 16 is a smaller version lol

I just discovered how a pilot acts different from a regular player. One of the things I find many pro players do is to loop-to-turn, while this pilot did a regular, horizontal bank turn. I wonder why those players would prefer loops.
