Pageantry is very popular in Vietnam, recognizing the sponsors and government officials(to get their approval and support) is a requirement and part of the pageantry culture in Vietnam.

The first performance (the first girl to sing) in the National Costume segment was by Miss Vietnam, while Miss Indonesia closed the show. It was truly a celebration of culture. I believe it's better to follow the entire pageant before making any commentary. Commenting without knowing the full context might not be fair. Additionally, just so you know.. Mexico, India, and Bangladesh were also chosen to speak at an event during the journey from Hanoi to Ninh Binh.
