Lost my 19 yr old son this past summer to mental illness. Only Bruce has the song to help me get thru... as he has provided to us thru all of our lives problems .... thank you, Bruce. Please hug my beautiful son for me Clerence! Please get help if you are suffering from depression...Bruce would want that too. I can't wait to board that train at some point and reunite with my loving son.. and hear that sax. Get help if needed! SPEAK UP. Gs

I've listened to this song thousands and thousands of times and it is so inspiring and brings me to tears the majority of the time...but it is the inclusiveness that brings me to tears...so many aspects of life jammed into one powerful moving song. My favorite thing to do is put my sunglasses on and go do yardwork and I'll listen to the song over and over again and cry all the way through. But, it gives me oxygen & sense of hope in a comforting way because when your down it feels like there is no space on the train. The Big Man Clarence Clemons drives the spirit of the song right through you.

I'm a metalhead, but this is by far my favorite song (this version) of all-time. I vividly remember hearing/seeing this song performed for the first time when Bruce reunited with The E Street Band (my first of many Springsteen concerts). This song just reached into my soul and resonated my feelings about how we should live in this world. Long live the brilliance of The Boss, Bruce Springsteen. \m/

For me, is like a way of life, and I will never forget that moments with him. Thank you dad for showed me the real music, always grateful with you

2022 update: it is with a broken heart that I have to add to the original comments below, speaking not only for myself but for countless friends & (former) Boss fans, how utterly betrayed we feel by his partnership with Ticketmaster in 'dynamic pricing' for '23 tour..In his recent RS interview, the billionaire farm owner dismissed fans' cries about $600 nosebleed seats saying "if you didn't get your moneys worth you can get a refund after the show..." spoken like a true One-Percenter who has no clue how hard these times are, and how much his live shows have meant/would mean to struggling working class people. I am soon going to delete this message, as it no longer reflects my view of the 'artist formerly known as Bruce', but I do want to thank all those who took time to read my story. I will always treasure my live concert memories, but apparently tramps like ME are no longer welcome nor wanted aboard "this train." And no, not even great memories will allow him to, as the song says, "walk away from the price WE pay."
    #Vendu
(originally posted 2017) When Bruce opened his show with this at a 2012 show I was at, my first since the Big Man's passing, the complete stranger in front of me turned to me before the show and began chatting, and he told me this long story about how much this song meant to him & his dad..who, not long after the Big Man, had recently passed. I explained that my mom too had passed not long before Clarence did, & we bonded over the loss of a parent. When I told him I could see the set list from where I was sitting, & that this song was the opener, his eyes suddenly welled up, He said "I sure hope you're right." When the band broke into the opening chords, he turned around and reached out and gave me a big bear hug and was both crying and smiling at the same time. THAT is how powerful and great this song, band and artist are--I long ago forgot his name, but the memory of a stranger's pure joy all because of a song says all that needs saying. For that brief moment, we weren't 2 strangers..but 2 friends mourning loss AND celebrating Life. A pretty incredible memory.

When Clarence offers a little prayer right in the middle of the performance, when Bruce goes on and on with a simple C'mon, C'mon, C'mon, when Bruce lifts his hand as he declares Faith will be rewarded, but especially when he wails two notes from somewhere deep down in his soul... Satan stands back and has a damn seat!
I have been with Bruce since 1973 and I hope I go before he does. It will be too sad for me.
For me this song is an altar call for us all, whores and Kings. I want this video played over my casket at my funeral. Bruuuuuuce!!!!

Grab your ticket and your suitcase
    Thunder’s rollin’ down this track
Well, you don’t know where you’re goin’ now
But you know you won’t be back
    Well, darlin’ if you’re weary
Lay your head upon my chest
We’ll take what we can carry
Yeah, and we’ll leave the rest
    Big wheels roll through fields
    Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams
Well, I will provide for you
And I’ll stand by your side
You’ll need a good companion now
For this part of the ride
    Leave behind your sorrows
Let this day be the last
    Tomorrow there’ll be sunshine
    And all this darkness past
    Big wheels roll through fields
    Where sunlight streams
Oh meet me in a land of hope and dreams
    This train...
    Carries saints and sinners
    This train...
    Carries losers and winners
    This train...
    Carries whores and gamblers
    This train...
    Carries lost souls
    I said this train...
    Dreams will not be thwarted
    This train...
    Faith will be rewarded

I am 85% through reading his 2016 auto-biography, "Born To Run." I learned about two songs - this one and American Skin. For every fan of Bruce and even those who are not, I highly recommend this book - classic Bruce, he lays it all out for all to understand. It explains a lot, at least for me. Long live Bruce, long live Rock and Roll.
