    I just got into chickens a few months ago, and I am researching the American Breese. Looking forward to getting some.

    Are you hatching pullet eggs?

    Wish you were still offering free shipping. I’m about to make an order and it’s $65 for shipping.

    Will they breed in that small pen?

    • @The.Recreational.Homestead
      @The.Recreational.Homestead  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes they have and will. I don’t love these pens it’s just what I have right now, I am looking for something different but haven’t found it yet. The roosters don’t have to stay in they 24-7 so that help because they are to tall for the pens anyway.

    Man, I can't wait to see what I end up with. I like them white ear lobes and that smaller comb your roosters have.

    • @The.Recreational.Homestead
      @The.Recreational.Homestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      The white ear lobes do make the bird look that much better. I can’t wait to see what you got down there, I am excited about the weights you sent me that’s for sure.

    Do you sell (and ship) fertile hatching Bresse eggs?

    • @The.Recreational.Homestead
      @The.Recreational.Homestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      Chicks only, we have chicks available to ship out on Tuesday or you can place your order for for spring right now. We have free shipping right now which saves you about $65. Right now it is a 10 chick minimum so they can ship safe in this colder weather

    We really love our stock from you guys! I only have one rooster left out of the batch, though, because of predators and I processed too many prior to the predators. Do you always use younger roosters for your breeding pens? Just wondering - we've got three older ones from the Nakid Gardener bresse which is our original flock.

    • @The.Recreational.Homestead
      @The.Recreational.Homestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, that’s to bad you lost so many. I do keep older roosters around and use them but the young one are way better at getting everything bred and because we are butchering them at 16 weeks we don’t really care so much what they are like at 2 years. But the hens we want to keep around long term to lay eggs so if they are still looking and doing go at 2 years we want to keep that blood in.

    You’re inspiring I got a dozen American Breese hatching eggs from Cassie Walker from Walker Farm Fam so I have some of your line ( still in the incubator) I have no way of knowing which eggs comes from which breeding group what would you recommend when saving breeding stock? Provide the hatch.

    • @The.Recreational.Homestead

      Thanks, just take your best few hens and one or two roosters and hatch and grow out as many as you can

    Do breed for a longer tail ?

    • @The.Recreational.Homestead
      @The.Recreational.Homestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The length of the tail is VERY low on my list. Is this something you are breeding for?

  • @templenaff5598

    I love my Roos. They can walk right by me and I don’t have to worry about getting hit like I have with some other breeds. My oldest are 8 months old and my newest are 3 weeks old so I’m not ready to start breeding yet. I’m learning everything I can first.

    This video gave me a good idead on how to pair up my chickens and roosters.
    You mentioned that prefer not to butcher the chickens. I feel the same.
    Whats the average selling price on your layers?
    Thanks.

    Happy new year brother!
    I got white straw color on few roosters! They are awesome size. Think that’s issue? Breast are big. Keen bone is straight leg spacing is 5 inches or better and dark blue. Earlobes are white. Can’t tell if it’s the clay in pen or actual birds color. Gonna breed few see if it’s pass along trait. Think I should worry on color? Hens are Snow White. Your birds are amazing! I gave someone your name on another TH-cam channel ! Let me know your thoughts

    • @The.Recreational.Homestead
      @The.Recreational.Homestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yellowing is a problem with American Bresse, you have to decide where it falls on you culling list. For me structure and meat and more important then a Snow White bird, this way I can hatch and butcher a bunch of meaty roosters looking for the one that’s Snow White. In my mind that way is better then butchering a bunch of Snow White skinny roosters looking for one with meat on him. Does that make sense? Thanks for pass long my name along, you have been such an amazing person to know.

      It’s hard to tell this time of year they get so muddy ! I do have medium size white one. Your hens are solid. I’m gonna try hatch out some chicks and see if they come out solid with good leg spacing Thank you for your time

    Terrific video. Your methodical approach to reach specific goals and attributes in each of those trios is really admirable. I am so excited to order my chicks come May. In a future video, would you consider reviewing your protocol for feeding up to the finishing off for butchering period? Also, did you ever consider contacting Omaha Steak Co? I think they are using Cornish Cross....but who isn't! Merci and Happy New Year to the entire Washburn family!

    • @The.Recreational.Homestead
      @The.Recreational.Homestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I don’t talk about it much but I was deep in to show pigs for 10 years so judging and breeding animals is nothing new to me. I am excited to send you more chicks, I thing you will be impressed with everything from the packaging to the chicks.
      I will definitely go more into depth on finishing and butchering in another video.
      At this point we are supplying 15 chickens per we to the restaurant and that’s more than enough. Once I get a rhythm on producing that many I will see if it makes sense to get bigger.
