Is it just me or did the mast deflect when the guy hung off it? I watched it a couple times and that’s what it looks like. If so, I would try and rig some kind of support to the top of the mast just under the bushings.
1966cambo no no that shit looked like it was going to go over 😂😂😂 he should of had the top go straight to the ceiling first time using it bet it starts to bend
Cantilever beams will always deflect SOME under a load... Just because you can see it doesn't mean it's bad. I'm sure the pipe is still FAR from plastic deformation under the loads he's rated it for.
@@KevinDay Its not so much an issue with plastic deformation as deflection, when the jib sags and your beam trolley runs to the end of it deflecting even more. Or in this case, right off the end, as it looks like there isn't a stop for the trolley.
that jib crane is stronger than really needed for 500 lbs, it is a nice job, at final adjustment, the most important is to align the pivot axis very plumb to avoid rotational non desired movement.
Nice job, but you need to do a load test on this jib. It should carry at least 3x its rating at full extension without sag or buckle or collapse. You don't hoist all the way up. Just an inch off the floor will prove it.
This jib was built by someone with no engineering background in jib crane design requirements or safety. Its totally obvious. At the very least, he should have had it inspected by a certified crane inspector or company. It would never pass. Your'e the one with the bullshit opinion.

Well, I find that I always need just one more pass of the spray, and we know what happens then. I just painted the headstock of one of my lathes. Where’s the sandpaper again?
Wouldn't hurt to go over it with a wire wheel. Your welds won't be any good with all that contamination. Just some constructive criticism. And did u get it load tested to put SWL on it?
Thank you so much for a good quality video. I will state, you're plumb lucky, though, that even with machinist style safety glasses, without wearing a full face shield, while using an angle grinder, you havent got multi-scars on your face and neck from the hot metal you're removing. You guy are great!...and LUCKY !!!
To prevent warping when you welded that base up you should have welded IT to the table. 6or 8 good tacks around the perimeter. Then do all your welding, let cool, and cut free. No warpage.
UHMW - Ultra High Molecular Weight - similar to Teflon - it's a high density plastic that works very well as a bearing/bushing in moderate load applications. (Now that you know what it's called - ) you can google it - it's not terribly expensive, and is pretty cool stuff.
It's actually in the polyethylene family instead of the "teflon" family. Cheaper than delrin but good strength, machine-ability and low friction. good stuff for wear parts that need to be tougher than teflon.
Why not use ball Bearing instead of plastic. I know plastic is cheaper but will not last a lifetime. If I had enough over head room I put one in my garage. Still trying to figure that one out. By the way nice work
I always have one of the speed squares on hand that I have cut a small diagonal off the right angle for straddling weld beads. Very handy. Nice project. Take care. Doug

The mast seriously deflects with a 160lb man swinging from it!!! No way in hell I would put "500lbs" on that death trap.

Useful information
Good music, great narration, excellent project!

Awesome job
Sir jib crane length wise capacity calculation Stating to end
The gussets would be better structurally if they had been over the support plates to better transfer the load. Bet it support 2000 lbs.
Hey Great Job! Build me one too. Do you sell the plans? I would love to have a smaller one for my truck. Thanks for Sharing.
