I was born in Seoul to a young, single mother who was very young; 14-16 years old I've been told. I was adopted when I was 6 months old and came to America with my current family. I am now a 19 year old college student. After watching this, I can't help but feel somber knowing that I have a mother and father out there somewhere and possibly brothers and sisters too. Congratulations man, I literally cried after watching.

Yeah it's funny how French people have French accents and Americans have American accents 😜 I personally find it quite sad rather than cool, that twins were split up. Twins should not be split apart, especially identical twins
I was initially surprised how different they looked, but if you look closely, the boys' head shape is different. Their faces are identical. Same eyes, nose and mouth! The fact that they share genetically identical brains is pretty amazing.
My heart broke when he said he couldn't convey the same love back to his mom. It's very honest and not something mos people think about. I'm just thinking about his mom who knows him so deeply like only a mother would but he doesn't know her. Very interesting. Thank you for sharing
Annelies Wallace when you’re a mother your kid will always be your kid and you feel that deep connection. It’s not something you can really explain other than feeling deeply. Anele’s not talking about knowing him as an individual- if that makes sense? Idk I’m also kinda bad at explaining.
queenbeethatme100 👀 I never said she knew him deeply? There’s a connection between mother & child that can’t be explained. Often it’s the mother who feels this connection tho. I’m not romanticizing anything. It’s called instinct. We all have it in some way, shape or form. (I was trying to help out the original commenter explain what she meant, cause I thought I understood what she was trying to say... good lord, don’t attack me)

Totally agree. I appreciate Dan's scientific, non-committal approach thus far. I think he's being VERY mature about this. His attitude is above and beyond what many people would respond with.
Their DNA analysis revealed that they are identical twins; it could be the high dairy in American diets causing indigestion, as most Koreans are lactose intolerant... they could consume dairy with kimchi, which has Lactobacillus bacteria that breaks down lactose, but otherwise, most Koreans cannot digest dairy. It is very likely that he had a lot of dairy in the American diet without kimchi...
I found it weird that the twin with the Asian diet and lifestyle grew up to be taller than the one with Western diet and lifestyle.. it's so incongruent to the common stereotype of Asians being short.
Those 2 twins at 6:00 though. One is from USA and the other is France? Freaking awesome! They're identical twins and yet, their accent when speaking in English was totally different. It's just simply awesome. BTW, love all your videos man. Got here through Fung Bros video.
dxelson well, seeing on where they were raised, not a big surprise but still, two identical twins speaking in English with different accent. It's just cool! Maybe it's just me but I find it awesome. Sorry for being lame... haha
Mona Lisa I'm 90% certain those girls are this set of twins I heard about awhile ago. One of them had made a video with Kevjumba and her sister watched it and saw how similar they looked. When she looked her up she realized that she was also adopted and had the same birthday so she messagd her and they found out they were twins. It's a pretty touching story
That’s how it is with my grandma she Korean but she also grew up in Hong Kong so usually she speaks more Cantonese then Korean making is more hard for me to understand her sometimes because she always switches between both fluently so usually I just answer her in English or Korean because I don’t know much Cantonese that why I always look to my grandpa to translate for me sometimes 😭😭🙏 ps I’m half Korean and Mexican and my family speak about five different languages in our home so body language is key aka hand signals 😂🙏😭
My Korean mother abandoned me at night at a busy train station when I was 2 years old. I was adopted by an very nice American family. I lived in Japan, Philippines, and went to Texas for college. I joined the army and rode in helicopters and tanks. I retired from the army and wrote a cookbook and a PTSD healing book to stay busy. Now that I am retired and getting older, I think about my brothers in Korea and how I would like to meet them. I assume we will look similar. However, I have no idea how to conduct the search to find my brothers. I won’t get my hope up, so I won’t be disappointed because I don’t think I will be successful in this endeavor. Sometimes somethings are just not destined to come true.
@tom - I agree with the other poster. Start searching. If you're retired, your bio parents may not be alive anymore (or they may be very old, so may not have much time). You may also have bio siblings. Maybe do a DNA test with "23 and Me" and "Ancestry". If you watch Part 1 of this series, Dan also mentioned an organization in the USA which helped him in his search. Good luck!
i think its bloody cool that you and your brother never knew each other, but yet managed to connect via your creative side, with both dabbling in music and hip hop. I'm still watching the rest of your videos, but thank you, Dan, for sharing.
Their mannerisms are so different because they hail from different places. Like how Dan's first instinct was to shake hands with the twin expert, but his brother's instinct was to immediately bow. It's cool to see that where you grow up and who you grow up around can have such a huge effect on who you are as a person.
It's so interesting to see this process, to be honest. I have an older cousin who's adopted from South Korea too. In Norway his name is Jon-Are, which is a really common name. It didn't hit me until we got the thank you-card from his daughter's christening that it was actually spelled Joon-Are. My uncle and aunt had taken half his Korean name and put it together with half a Norwegian one. I think it's really nice, because it's a way of combining the two, reminding him of his heritage as well as saying that he's also Norwegian, he really is.
this makes me so sad. i actually had a twin sister but she died when we were 5 years old because she had acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. even though i really don’t have much memories with her, i always like to scan our pictures together and imagine what would it be like if she was still alive. i miss her.
Twinsters in on Netflix, and Dan is behind Sam and Anais. When I was watching the conference, I was like wait... I've seen these speeches before and then there is Dan, sitting behind the girls, and in other shots. Its incredible that both stories, while slightly similar with a common theme are both individually touching.
I loved best the picture of him with his biological other. Would've really loved to have seen them interact. I feel so bad for the mother - coming out of a medical issue to find out one of her sons was put up for adoption. Never getting to say good-bye or make that choice. I understand there were issues and it just turned out that way. But I still feel so bad for her. Being a mother myself - the thought of experiencing that just sounds so heartbreaking
The cutest part for me was when they got to the doctors office and the the Korean twin greeted her with a double bow. Dan wasn't paying attention as he was trying to shut the door. When he turned around and saw the bows, he immediately bowed as well. Culture is such a beautiful thing ❤️
It's cute how his brother was excited about showing him his room and stuff so he can get to know him better, made me wish I had a twin sister to share things with
Jennifer Holloway If I remember correctly they don't look the same because Dan was so sick as a baby. I believe that is what dan said on one of his instagram photos.
I think your so lucky to find out that there is a whole other world open to you. A second family and a second nation. Clearly your mom has never forgotten you. That she gave you up and suffered your loss just to give you a chance at a better life. Please take care of her. I think she's been thru more than any mother should ever have to go thru. Thanks for sharing this vid.
It's so cute just watching them interact... like they're complete strangers but you can see a small tiny natural connection that usually exist between twins.
The Danish rap was awesome. I'm from Denmark and normally don't like Danish music but the song was so deep and meaningful. This is so weird for me to see. I speak Danish everyday but love the English and Korean language more. All three are in this video. Mindblow.
My guess is that having twins was unexpected and the family couldn't handle the financial strain of two children like they could one. Instead of not being able to provide for two kids, they decided to be able to provide for one.
It explains in part one that the family was having a very difficult time financially. Also, Dan and his twin were born in 1985 which was before universal health care coverage was achieved in 1988. With existing financial hardships, one older child, a mother with serious health issues after giving birth and two premature babies it's understandable why the father made such a difficult decision.
Maybe when compared to korean(seoul accent to be specific) because I've noticed they talk slower compared to other languages so it seems that Dan is speaking fast
Thank you for sharing your story. I'm korean and adoption is a huge taboo. So many Koreans never get a chance to reconnect with their roots. I have a best friend who also found out she had a twin that she was separated from at birth through adoption. The family kept her twin just like your story. This shows hope for those of us who want to connect with our biological families. It takes so much courage and strength. How beautiful.
Wow. Amazing story...I was adopted and had a twin. That's all I know. I wish I could find the other twin somehow. Especially after seeing and hearing so many stories.
Separated twins have more similar to each other then twins that grow up together. Since they aren’t being compared and aren’t trying so hard to be different from each other
Wow i loved this ep. It sucks you didn't capture the big moment but i understand the situation. If i were them i would be uncomfortable with cameras around too. You 2 really look alike! holy, it's so cool. It's really touching that you 2 got to hang out for a little, to see your similarities and differences. It's all about creating memories with a sibling. Especially if you 2 are twins! Thanks for sharing your story :)
I'm 52, adopted Korean back in 1975, born in 71. My mom just recently passed away and now I have this yearning to find my biological family. I don't know why, I love my mom and dad but now that both are dead I feel like I won't hurt their feelings.
This was amazing! Glad you were able to put complete your puzzle. My siblings and I were separated a long time ago and sent to live with different relatives we all lived lives like we never knew each other. I feel like we’re all separated at birth sometimes. I’m now in my 40’s and the eldest, and we are all still estranged.
To Dan, I feel I may not have a right or full understanding in this moment of your life that you have experienced. However it is amazing and inspiring to see the bravery and strength it took for you to go forward and find your Korean family and it is amazing how honest and open you were with such a personal matter. This series no doubt will help so many people; younger or older generations who have yet to embark on the journey you did. Great work and congratulations on finding your amazing family.
I'm glad he found his biological family. His twin is cool as hell! I really felt sorry for his mom. She didn't want to put him up I'm sure of it. With him being in shock he couldn't connect with her on a deeper level right away. But I'm still really glad they all found each other. I wish them the best of luck!
Well, let me introduce my history. Im not twin, but I super grateful for watching this video (actually the vídeo takes me to "Twinsters"). My sis and I are 3-4 years of difference and I have struggles to demonstrate my love for her, but the first thing I thought when I finish the video was telling her how much I love her. Right now Im typing and crying. This hole thing make me so emotional... All I have to say is always tell to somebody how special he is. Thank you so much for this video! Congratulations for this masterpiece. With love, Luiza.
This story is seriously amazing, so glad you shared it with us!!! Theres so many people who are searching for where they came from but continuously hit a brick wall, so I'm glad Dan got the chance to meet his biological family and find his roots.
The weird moment when you're watching a documentary in English about Korean adoptees, and a guy gets on stage and starts singing in your native language
samatha and Anaise brought me here! I loved their story and hope they can live close to each other. Now another Koream adoption reuniting story..I am elated fo him, to find them ..I also understand that he would feel akward aroud his biological family..I just get so emotional watching this
I am happy and deeply moved, everything due to horrible war which still keeps the South and North separated. The Americans refuse to let the two rejoin keeping the South under their control against China.I wish them all peace and happyness
Bitter sweet…hope this doesn’t continue in Korea, but unfortunately it still does. It’s apparent that not every adoptees have happy endings. These adoptees are survivors, troopers and inspiring winners. Best of luck to you Dan!
I was adopted at 6 mo from Korea. I’ve always been SUPER conscious of how DIFFERENT I am from all Asians I’ve met. It’s so beautiful to me how our environment shapes us. I hope to one day meet my birth mom :)
Same, I can't imagine not being able to properly love or raise them without transferring the pain and trauma from back then - even if I myself have grown past and am happy.
1hourOfLove most adoptees' biological parents are in extremely difficult situations, not just giving them away because they dont care. Even if your childhood sucked, you should rethink of having kids to share and relive a childhood with them thats better than ever before. You can heal that way too in the process..
If you think about it, they were probably prepared for one kid but they just couldn't have a second baby at the same time and give the same care. People don't always plan to have kids, it's crazy to expect that they're suddenly able to support and look after a new human being
My childhood sucked too. I was an only child and had toxic parents. But I ended with several of my own and I am thankful my relationship with my kids are a lot more healthy and loving than what I had with my own parents.
In the past 24 hours I have watched these clips several times. Although I am not adopted, I just loved this story and cried with happiness... I truly felt sad when his birth mom couldn't let him go and kept touchinghis face. What a beautiful story. I would love to adopt. It also made me sad and a bit angry that people won't adopt just because they aren't the same ethnicity. The lady said so at the orphanage that it's declining. Perhaps something could be done for more exposure. God bless the Matthews family.
I think it would be better to support efforts to increase social support for single mothers in South Korea. Right now, the social stigma against single mothers in SK makes it almost impossible for them to raise their babies on their own even thought many would like to. The reason why international adoptions have decreased is because 1) much-needed adoption regulation was put in place in 2012 and 2) the government is pushing HARD for domestic adoptions.
I fail to comprehend all these soppy comments. Put yourselves into the shoes of his adoptive parents. His main interest is now his biological family. So sad. I'm not surprised adoptions from exotic places are declining. Many children just turn their back on their adoptive parents once they grow up. All they are left with is their misguided savior complex gone wrong. I know many stories first hand
I was adopted in 1953 from a family of nine. I was the baby of six girls and three boys. They were originally from Canada so I am first generation American. In my 30s I met three sisters and two brothers and my birth mother and father. Four of my sisters were adopted as well; they kept the boys, of course. I haven’t seen them since the 80s; we were disconnected. I was adopted by a family from Philadelphia and was exposed to art classes and piano lessons at a well known music school; something that wouldn’t have happened if I’d stayed with my birth family.
Dan, What a moving story. I'm adopted too and did look for information about my birth family. Mostly, I wanted health information for when I decided to have children. I did receive information. I am fortunate, like you to have been able to contact some of my birth family. When your birth mother was crying you'll very much feel some of the emotion she had been feeling if you decide at some point to have children. I have a daughter and a son. I believe I'd touch my children's face the same as your birth mother touched yours. What a moving and interesting story. Xo
Korean men dont cry, brother. Hope you find a way to get in touch.
maybe you still have chance get some information about family.
Hope you find your mother
The female twins, their accents. It so cool how that could happen, how your twin could be on another part of the world .

What was really cool is that they both were into the same things. MUSIC
Twins are twins lolol
You're like 5'9" and your twin is 6'1"? Dude.. your adopted family should have given you Korean food instead of hamburgers and hotdogs.
How do you know that's what he ate? Lollll
lol. they're fraternal twins. Only 50% genetic material is the same

Mindblow.
HottiiSkath agree
Sameee omg XD
Lisa J.andersen You a kpop fan?
Monnie_Bacon Yes I am 😃❤❤
Lisa J.andersen You wanna chat?
How can someone even split up twins and only adopt one...
In the place I live, I've heard that there's a belief that twins must not live together or one of them will have a bad luck/life.
sonia jayanthi Its in Indonesia too but only if they both get sick all the time.
Then you have to seperate them.
FQ PW dari indonesia?
My guess is that having twins was unexpected and the family couldn't handle the financial strain of two children like they could one. Instead of not being able to provide for two kids, they decided to be able to provide for one.
It explains in part one that the family was having a very difficult time financially. Also, Dan and his twin were born in 1985 which was before universal health care coverage was achieved in 1988. With existing financial hardships, one older child, a mother with serious health issues after giving birth and two premature babies it's understandable why the father made such a difficult decision.
i hope you can help ben deen.
Yes, I hope he meets his parents soon too
Yeah. Soon. Last update was he got a message frm his "brother".
ikr.... 😢
yas i hope so !n
Who's Ben Deen, and why does he need help?
When the dude started rapping I was like "… wait a minute… that's danish, isn't it?" x)
it is danish :)
I freaked out when i heard it since i'm danish and a big Korea Lover.
What do you think? He was adopted by a Danish family.
Whateverhappensxx Yoo samee. I was like "Why Do I understand this?" 😆😂 også senere hen i videoen
@@frejanielsen7911 what's the name of the song
dan is a fast talker.
Maybe when compared to korean(seoul accent to be specific) because I've noticed they talk slower compared to other languages so it seems that Dan is speaking fast
i really love watching his journey. Thanks again for sharing your life with us.
It seems both have very creative minds. I think they could make something really cool together. Whether it's music, or maybe even fashion or design.
Wow. Amazing story...I was adopted and had a twin. That's all I know. I wish I could find the other twin somehow. Especially after seeing and hearing so many stories.
maybe putting your dna out there might help you track down your twin or twin's relatives. good luck! and take care!
Hope there's an update! Doing 23andme or Ancestry you might find a link somewhere.
Separated twins have more similar to each other then twins that grow up together. Since they aren’t being compared and aren’t trying so hard to be different from each other
They’re the perfect case study of how variation is impacted by environmental factors
Even far apart and seperated at birth twins are the same in some ways... it was awesome seeing the connections
It’s sad knowing many twins can be separated I have a twin and as I’m watching this video I’m grateful to have him by my side
I'm 2 min in and already feel emotional 😭
Watching this documentary, makes me emotional. This is really beautiful and I'm glad Dan is sharing a very personal experience :)
I'm 52, adopted Korean back in 1975, born in 71. My mom just recently passed away and now I have this yearning to find my biological family. I don't know why, I love my mom and dad but now that both are dead I feel like I won't hurt their feelings.
I think it's hysterical how Sam and Dan found their twins from a different country
"like the Korean version of pbs" i laugh so hard when he said that
This was amazing! Glad you were able to put complete your puzzle. My siblings and I were separated a long time ago and sent to live with different relatives we all lived lives like we never knew each other. I feel like we’re all separated at birth sometimes. I’m now in my 40’s and the eldest, and we are all still estranged.
I really love this document and the story is just so crazy!
Wait! All the clearly more important stuff aside. YOU WERE IN FAR EAST MOVEMENT?! 😂
I'm late but that was my exact reaction too! I was like omg omg omg 😂
and everytime i hear "Far East Movement" Tiffany Young always came to mind
I only hear Chanyeol's voice
Your brother is a tall but adorable person
Well, let me introduce my history. Im not twin, but I super grateful for watching this video (actually the vídeo takes me to "Twinsters"). My sis and I are 3-4 years of difference and I have struggles to demonstrate my love for her, but the first thing I thought when I finish the video was telling her how much I love her. Right now Im typing and crying. This hole thing make me so emotional... All I have to say is always tell to somebody how special he is. Thank you so much for this video! Congratulations for this masterpiece. With love, Luiza.
People must stop separating twins for adoption, it's a though they share one soul, feeling that something is missing in their life. Nice story.
This story is seriously amazing, so glad you shared it with us!!! Theres so many people who are searching for where they came from but continuously hit a brick wall, so I'm glad Dan got the chance to meet his biological family and find his roots.
that'] was so cool how you got to hang out with your twin brother! love this series and thank you for letting us learn from your life!
you know
for a second i actually believe you were 2 years younger than you really are
The weird moment when you're watching a documentary in English about Korean adoptees, and a guy gets on stage and starts singing in your native language
Lol
Its really amazing seeing you guys both love music, even hip hop! Thats sooooo cool.
I really love how danish rap music suddenly appears out of nowhere !
samatha and Anaise brought me here! I loved their story and hope they can live close to each other. Now another Koream adoption reuniting story..I am elated fo him, to find them ..I also understand that he would feel akward aroud his biological family..I just get so emotional watching this
ISAtv need to make an update where are they now.
Heart-warming story. I actually did cry over this episode. Thanks for sharing Dan.
I love this story. I wish I could meet my birth parents. This story is very entertaining to watch
As a mama...I just want to hug you all. Love to you all, best wishes for all the good things you deserve.
Being a twin is amazing. I feel like I get an ache in my chest when I miss my sister.
What an incredible story. Thank you for sharing a bit of your life with us.
I love this series!
Omg!! The babies are so chubby!! I love chubby babies lols. The last baby though 😂❤️ the hair looked so fluffy and soft 🤗
twinsters!!!!!! You can see Dan in twinsters, too..and he's mentioned there
I am happy and deeply moved, everything due to horrible war which still keeps the South and North separated. The Americans refuse to let the two rejoin keeping the South under their control against China.I wish them all peace and happyness
was waiting for this video all day!! so happyyyy
oh maaannnnn this is so touching! I got emotional within the first minutes of this doc! :') ISAtv, I am awe-struck by this :) yous are too good!
Bitter sweet…hope this doesn’t continue in Korea, but unfortunately it still does. It’s apparent that not every adoptees have happy endings. These adoptees are survivors, troopers and inspiring winners. Best of luck to you Dan!
Wow!!! Love this series I just started watching it. I can't wait for the next ep. I'm so glad to see his story being shared.
I was adopted at 6 mo from Korea. I’ve always been SUPER conscious of how DIFFERENT I am from all Asians I’ve met. It’s so beautiful to me how our environment shapes us. I hope to one day meet my birth mom :)
his reaction to finding out he has a twin is so pure
I never had kids because my childhood sucked. I wish people wouldn't have children if they aren't going to love them.
I feel you, so hard man. Agreed.
I just subscribed and can't wait to watch your journey. I just found my whole birth family and plan to meet them later this year! It's so surreal!!!!
The reason why international adoptions have decreased is because 1) much-needed adoption regulation was put in place in 2012 and 2) the government is pushing HARD for domestic adoptions.
mashadasha amen..!!🙏💞💞💞🎊🎉🎈🎉🎊🎉🌹🌹🌹😍
6'1 bro should visit LA.
Awww Dan looks soo cute when he smiles so big !! Awww cutie pie
Yay finally, waited all week for this episode :)
Wow what a small world that he met Sam and Anais! So cool :)
So what did your twin brother think about your own music?
Dan, What a moving story. I'm adopted too and did look for information about my birth family. Mostly, I wanted health information for when I decided to have children. I did receive information. I am fortunate, like you to have been able to contact some of my birth family. When your birth mother was crying you'll very much feel some of the emotion she had been feeling if you decide at some point to have children. I have a daughter and a son. I believe I'd touch my children's face the same as your birth mother touched yours. What a moving and interesting story. Xo
I didn't expect your hyung to be so goofy :)
I cried in this episode, this is such a beautiful journey. I cannot wait to watch the next one.
What's the theme song in the beginning? I really like it :)
