Me and my friends played this game for almost a week without turning off the C64. We had the character between 75 and 99% most of the time, but we never figured out how to solve some of the arcade mini games. In the end, we just turned it off and went out and played.
mindblowing! now my lack of synapses caused by playing for hours when I was a kid (with no reason or perspective), is cured! thanks for posting, I'm back a 'normal' person!
One of my most favourite C64 games of all time and one of the few I could complete without cheating!! Admittedly it took me several hours, not 22 minutes lol :)
You think back to the imagination that these games had on 8-bit and it was amazing given their limits... this stands up well today even as an Indie game.
"Frankie was a game that felt very different for the time. It was very visual and music-based, taking a lot of references from the pop group. I think we were all very happy with the way the game and the graphics turned out. My only regret is the lack of a talking moose in the murder mystery game, something Paul Morley (representative of the band) said no to! Who doesn't want a talking moose head in a game, giving out clues !?" -- Karen Davies, graphic artist [Frankie Goes To Hollywood - C64]
Well that was mental - that said, there were some good renditions of the album tracks - the flower field scene at 19:25 particularly... I remember way WAY back I programmed both my BBC Micro Model B (filename 'PDmeMv2' [Pleasure Dome Movement 2]...), and then later that year my Casio SK-1 to KIND of faithfully reproduce that movement of WTTPD - OH my days, I'm just listening to the full-length original on another tab and it's taken from beginning to end to complete this comment (Relax is playing now...)
When I was 8 years old my older cousin gave me his C64 with all of his games. Turican, Blood Money, Arkanoid and Ghouls n Ghosts of course. Frankie was my favorite because I had no clue! It was probably my first drug without even realizing it lol
One downside to having the game played so fast/efficiently is that the main theme never really gets time to kick in. It was a pretty nice SID composition.
Didnt even know they made a game based off Frankie goes to Hollywood lol. Had to be bigger in Europe. I had hundreds of C-64 games though. There were so many games for it! Like their music!
***** I was an English kid and I bought this game and I didn't know what on Earth was going on in this game ... was I a thief going house to house ? was I a hippy catching flowers ? was I in the army shooting down aircraft .... looking back it was a piece of art.
Amazing game for its time. 1985, if I recall correctly. Zzap! gold medal. Completed it once. Much more creative than almost everything else at the time. And it all fitted inside 64k. Incredible.
I never completed this, though I got to 87000 points. I loved the ztt puzzle and catching the flowers. The music was the heartbeat of this game, nearly as good as Frankie themselves. It's right up there with Elite, Boulderdash and the Sentinel as my fave C64 game.
Since this soundtrack is based on songs by the Band "Frankie Goes To Hollywood", i can assure you it has a title, which i found out already. It's called "The World Is My Oyster", check out the original :)
I remember playing this the days back, IIRC I never got beyond the murder mistery. Later on I ripped all the sounds / music, so at least I was able to enjoy them on C64 without having to play :D (Of course I am also owning almost all FGTH vinyls from this time, but the sound on C64 was still good and different).
I loved this game so much though I never really figured out what was going on (it was a pirated copy and came with no instructions whatsoever). I liked the little games best.
@akguni And a really odd thing I found out - all the notes in that piece are about half a semitone sharp. So on any tuned musical instrument, you can't play it unless you actually deliberately detune it.
I remember this game so well, it was a deep mystery for me! :-) Funny thing is that only now I notice that this was probably created by the same guys of Mission Impossible, the type of game and the graphic are pretty much the same.
a game ahead of its time, i got lost so many times and ended up playing the minigames the flower one due to it being piss easy and the spitting one due to it being the cold war,the murder mystery looking back i must have looked like a weirdo as i called my mate round to help me solve the mystery, when your not even a teenager yet things liek that seem real, notepad and write the clues down, mystery solved(or not due to not having a clue) i did feed the caat and thought when it walked away that was cool though
Channel 4 or someone should just get the rights to broadcast stuff like this late at night on TV or through the night so unsuspecting folk will stumble upon it and have their minds blown trying to figure out what's going on and why? Channel 4 used to be entertaining......not now.
I've been trying to remember the title of this game and thinking "It's not Frankie Goes to Hollywood. You're getting confused because of Blagger Goes to Hollywood!" Nope! I was right. And it's still a weird game.
Unbelievably this was one of only a few C64 games I actually completed!! Is it me or wasn't it much better when video games were as simple as this? Games are too realistic nowadays. Just because the graphics were simple it didn't mean that they weren't bloody hard to play!
Why would anyone keep a floppy disk and a video (Remember them?) in a fridge? Seriously, I had a copy of this game but I had no idea what the hell was going on, I just liked to do the minigames. I managed to fill the barchart on the right hand side all the way up. And no, I never did solve the murder mystery.
oh my god i played this as a kid looking at this now this game is pure filth how,"pleasure units" and aren't those white things two sperms? this game was innocent to me not now lol
Me and my friends played this game for almost a week without turning off the C64. We had the character between 75 and 99% most of the time, but we never figured out how to solve some of the arcade mini games. In the end, we just turned it off and went out and played.
Which is exactly what the ending of the game tells you to do.
Played this on my dad's C64 when I was just a kid. Had no f*cking clue what was going on.
same here for me. took me weeks just to feed the cat.
MrMarouka there was a cat?
o jeez
oops
same. =D
Same. And I still don't.
Love the atmosphere that the soundtrack creates, though.
Lol me too
Back here to listen to the music at 19:30 and feel my heart break again :')
Congratulations, you beat the game and are now 21% a real person.
mindblowing! now my lack of synapses caused by playing for hours when I was a kid (with no reason or perspective), is cured! thanks for posting, I'm back a 'normal' person!
Oh my god!!! so this did exist and I didn't just dream it
I used to switch the light on and off again and again because it gave you some points...
Ahh, the memories of a wasted childhood.
I just heard about this game and wondered what it looked like. Thanks for the upload. 🕹🎮
I just watched a complete playthrough and I at best have a vague idea how the game works. Still a massive improvement from before.
Even if you're NOT a Frankie fan, check out the full album version of the song Welcome to the Pleasure Dome.
Yup. It's a sprawling masterpiece.
Unbelievable piece of music.
remember this with my old c64, if i remember right, this came out around the mid 80's sometime...another time and place now, i long to go back.
Home PC tech was in its infancy, and you my friend were on The cutting edge of it with a c64 so of course it was a great time!!!
And of course, waiting every month for zapp64! To come out from ludlow! I kept all my zapps but i never kept my amiga formats.
One of my most favourite C64 games of all time and one of the few I could complete without cheating!! Admittedly it took me several hours, not 22 minutes lol :)
As incomprehensible today as it's always been!
Thanks for posting. I played this on Amstrad, I loved it and it seemed so mysterious but I had no idea what I was doing.
I loved this game as a kid, played for hours to complete it, you make it look easy.
You think back to the imagination that these games had on 8-bit and it was amazing given their limits... this stands up well today even as an Indie game.

Thank you for posting this video and other old games,,, when games were really good,, not now
Well that was mental - that said, there were some good renditions of the album tracks - the flower field scene at 19:25 particularly...

I had this when it first came out, I didn't have a clue what to do, after watching this video I'm still none the wiser
This one was way ahead of its time. In fact the world still has to catch up for this to make sense.
Also: scrotum gun at 12:20.
When I was 8 years old my older cousin gave me his C64 with all of his games. Turican, Blood Money, Arkanoid and Ghouls n Ghosts of course. Frankie was my favorite because I had no clue! It was probably my first drug without even realizing it lol
Played this in my 'ol 64. Never finished (kept getting lost in the Corridors of Power T__T ) Thanks for posting it. Cheers! :D
One downside to having the game played so fast/efficiently is that the main theme never really gets time to kick in. It was a pretty nice SID composition.
LOL yeah this is kind of a speedrun
I played and finished this in 1985, I rember how goddam hard it was I still own it in its original packaging!
I wish I could be a real person.
No doubt, this is the crasiest game I've ever played with. Thanks for the vid'.
Superb game thanks for this!
This creeped me out when I played it for the first time, being a kid and all, had nightmares about the obscure murder mystery :D
Didnt even know they made a game based off Frankie goes to Hollywood lol. Had to be bigger in Europe. I had hundreds of C-64 games though. There were so many games for it! Like their music!
In 1985 I knew less tha 10 english words. I loved this game but I had some problem understanding what the hell was going on!
***** I was an English kid and I bought this game and I didn't know what on Earth was going on in this game ... was I a thief going house to house ? was I a hippy catching flowers ? was I in the army shooting down aircraft .... looking back it was a piece of art.
+Marco Pederzoli In 2015, I know more than 10 English words, and I have no idea what the hell is going on. I may only be 12% a real person.
Marco Pederzoli i was 6 so I was worse off than u. My sister and I barely understood this game, what little there is to understand.
Amazing game for its time. 1985, if I recall correctly. Zzap! gold medal. Completed it once. Much more creative than almost everything else at the time. And it all fitted inside 64k. Incredible.
Fit inside a lot less than that.... C64 OS took up almost half the RAM.....
Patsfan 4life // A game could overwrite most of the OS code though. IIRC a few overwrote everything.
@@patsfan4life That's only if you were using BASIC. A game written in assembler could just trash that and make use of the memory.
If somehow i could get a clip of the music that plays from 19:25 i could listen to that looped over and over.
SKORP11ON it’s from Welcome to the Pleasuredome, track 1, The World is my Oyster, from about a minute in.
I never completed this, though I got to 87000 points. I loved the ztt puzzle and catching the flowers. The music was the heartbeat of this game, nearly as good as Frankie themselves. It's right up there with Elite, Boulderdash and the Sentinel as my fave C64 game.
Considering it's based around a rock group, it's a surprisingly good game! (Though certainly one of the very strangest too)
Just here to see that someone actually understood this friggin' game.
Since this soundtrack is based on songs by the Band "Frankie Goes To Hollywood", i can assure you it has a title, which i found out already. It's called "The World Is My Oyster", check out the original :)
19:25 One of the best SID pieces ever :)
That's actually "The World Is My Oyster" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood :)
I remember playing this the days back, IIRC I never got beyond the murder mistery. Later on I ripped all the sounds / music, so at least I was able to enjoy them on C64 without having to play :D (Of course I am also owning almost all FGTH vinyls from this time, but the sound on C64 was still good and different).
is that reagan and gorbachov at 15:15 ?
Yes
Played this for hours as a kid. Never figured out how to win. Now I'm almost glad I didn't lol
That ending felt like i got rick rolled or something , all that work and ... lolz
Yeah, that's 80s games for ya.
welcome banc
Oh my god give me this Soundtrack its so good!
I loved this game so much though I never really figured out what was going on (it was a pirated copy and came with no instructions whatsoever). I liked the little games best.
If he had just shot his Portal gun at the moon, he wouldn't even be in that mess.
Bought and played this the year it was released. I still have the original in it's box. Didn't make much sense at the time tho. LOL
NOSTALGIA!!!
This game looks like a great time.
@hyphz Absolutely! Spot on. That specific piece is the whole reason I searched this video 5 minutes ago...
@akguni And a really odd thing I found out - all the notes in that piece are about half a semitone sharp. So on any tuned musical instrument, you can't play it unless you actually deliberately detune it.
This game is a trip...
A surreal game which I kinda enjoyed back in the 1980s
Those games... "you won ....The end"... nothing else but a text.
Don'tcha know, it's the journey that matters, not the destination.
I played this on Spectrum very long time ago but I didn't know what I had to do.
aaaaah.... the memories
This game frightened me when I was a nipper.
lol, amazing comments. Going to look up Dracula now - where you had to type stuff in, what you wanted to do, go North and stuff :)
When does Frankie get to go to Hollywood??!?!?
Frankie Say Load Tape
(Flip Over)
I remember this game so well, it was a deep mystery for me! :-) Funny thing is that only now I notice that this was probably created by the same guys of Mission Impossible, the type of game and the graphic are pretty much the same.
Found the manual, though the game still makes very little sense.

@Jeet27 i still find this game a bit freaky now.
Waited till the flower rain, becase i liked the tune. Still love it.
thats was one of the Games i did not understand...we played it and then went on to try other Games..like one of the several 100´s we had to play
Custer give you 1600 Revenge Units, you're now 2% human

“Floppy disk” : relaxed
This has to be one of the strangest games ever.
Bizarre and somewhat hypnotizing
love this game. the songs used in this game were pleasuredome, two tribes and relax.
And 'The World is my Oyster' at 19:25 :)
@@WanderlustZero cool
Wahey a game set in Liverpool. I just don't understand what was going on really.
@hyphz what is the song title?
It took lots of playing as a kid to understand.. that this game is impossible to complete. Unless you're some kind of genius 🤣
Like most C64 music in games it had no title.. the only title it could be given is "Flower Power", which is the name of the minigame.
wtf is going on?
cold war hawk tuah at 14:50
This game is so bonkers. Total product of the cocaine '80'. Hahaha! :D
Channel 4 or someone should just get the rights to broadcast stuff like this late at night on TV or through the night so unsuspecting folk will stumble upon it and have their minds blown trying to figure out what's going on and why?

Did anybody come here from Rocks'n'diamonds?
Man they had a game for everything including this? lol = )
Those holes he pops in and out of, are they GLORYHOLES???
wat
Never quite understood what the goal was in the game.
To achieve pleasure.
Unbelievably this was one of only a few C64 games I actually completed!! Is it me or wasn't it much better when video games were as simple as this? Games are too realistic nowadays. Just because the graphics were simple it didn't mean that they weren't bloody hard to play!
how is this a thing?
Google c64 and then Google 1980s
I want what they were on when they made this.
A little bit of everything
The sims before the sims....

I can't believe I played this piece of crap a hundred years ago. Thankfully I copied it from a cassette.
War-huh. What is it good for? Absolutely nothing. Say it again. 80s = gold era.
You're quoting a song by The Temptations from 1970
pleasure pill. haha. drugs much?

what a pile of crap, how anyone completed that I don't know
