Alesi was plagued with bad luck throughout his F1 career. He retired 8 times while leading races.

Peugeot was so bad in reliability it's not funny. Prost should've let Peugeot leave F1 at the end of the 3 year deal the manufacturer had with Jordan, and sticked with Honda to begin with instead of switching just for the sake of trying to build a pure French team. I could not believe Prost even buyed Ligier because in his Beyond The Grid he said "2 days before I signed the contract and bought the team, I told the President of France I don't want to do it anymore, but he told him France will help Prost at a later date," but of course that did not happen as the Peugeot name left F1 at the end of 2000 but provided engines to Arrows and Minardi as Asiatech before leaving completely at the end of 2002 while the Prost/Ligier team folded completely into bankruptcy just before the start of 2002 despite finishing 2001 with 4 world points in 9th place.

Jean is just one of the unluckiest race drivers of all time in any racing series'.
He could've scored 9 world points for Prost in 2000 had his gearbox not fail at Monaco while running in a potential 2nd place podium and had his car not failed him at Belgium while running in 4th on a different strategy because of rain, those two points finishes and 2nd place podium combined would've given Prost a 7th place finish in the constructor's which would've been huge for Prost given that Peugeot and all their sponsors pulled the plug for 2001.

@@zanemarte9877 I always wonder what went on behind the scenes at Prost towards the end of the 2000 season with the exodus of sponsors you mentioned. Like even Gauloises leaving after they stuck through some much lower spells during the Ligier years (3 points from 1988-91, double DNQs in those years, etc). Must have been some huge political reasons, we'll probably never know!

@@cribbe6547 For multiple reasons. One it was Peugeot failing to give the team healthy engines that are fast and reliable while the manufacturer was lying to Prost saying "their engines can run up to 790 horsepower," BUT Jean Alesi debunked that claim saying "If Peugeot can run that high amount of horsepower, then Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz should run on 800." That is not possible with naturally aspirated V10 engines. Two, countries were cracking down on tobacco advertising which is why Gauloises pulled their F1 sponsor program (at least within the team, as the company still advertised at the Monaco Grand Prix until the FIA banned tobacco advertising all together). And three Alain Prost himself, he can not run a race team like a racecar. Just because you are a success as a racecar driver that doesn't necessarily mean you'll be a success as an owner of a race team. This clearly shows it all, and if you read my original comment from the main comment section Prost said in his Beyond The Grid podcast "Two days before I signed the contract, I told the French President I don't want to do it anymore because this is not what I thought, but he told me "If you do it, we will help you at a later date." But that never happened." Which in what he meant by that was "Why did I even think about doing something like this in the first place?"

Qualifying in Monaco in that year was cool, only in Monaco he can show his skill on this scrap car.

Yeah. That Prost Peugeot AP-03 from 2000 was a total s***box. It even ranks in the top 3 for worst F1 car productions EVER, just behind the 1999 B.A.R. and the 1997 Stewart-Ford. That Prost's aerodynamic performance was so bad the drivers Jean Alesi and Nick Heidfeld were always fighting the car to regain control, not to mention that Peugeot was so bad in reliability it's not funny, even Olivier Panis (who drove for Ligier/Prost from 1994-1999) himself agrees with me on that matter. The team believe it or not went through 59 copies of the same engine for the entire 2000 season. The only true positive about Prost Grand Prix was the dark midnight blue paint job with the PlayStation or Yahoo (2000 only) logo on the sidepods it was literally the best looking car to look at even if the Prost-Peugeot's were total s***boxes.
