This setup is not stock. I bought it from an friend of mine who changed the motor to a stronger one (i belive its the motor of the newer Extra 330 LX, thats what he said). Except from it it should be stock. The throws are maximum. Yes i think 48" balsa plane fly better in every way. They are faster, track better and that may be the biggest difference they are more agile in 3d and in the same time they are more forgiving (less wing rock in harrier etc). I have a Jeti Reciever with the gyro in this plane because i had it here (modern times ^^). I never used a gyro in any balsa plane. It flys also very good without the gyro but to be true with the gyro it flys better and feels more like a balsa one. But for a foamie i was still surprised how good it flys. My earlier experiences with 3d aerobatic foamies was not to good so i did not fly them for many years (except from the cool profile epp shockflyers, i love them).
