Was listening to some Mick Ronson music recently and came across this quote from Mellencamp "I owe Mick Ronson the hit song 'Jack & Diane'. Mick was very instrumental in helping me arrange that song, as I'd thrown it on the junk heap. Ronson came down and played on three or four tracks and worked on the American Fool record for four or five weeks. All of a sudden, for 'Jack & Diane', Mick said 'Johnny, you should put baby rattles on there.' I thought, 'What the fuck does put baby rattles on the record mean? So he put the percussion on there and then he sang the part 'let it rock, let it roll' as a choir-ish-type thing, which had never occurred to me. And that is the part everybody remembers on the song. It was Ronson's idea." (John Mellencamp,
I just saw this drummer Kenny Aronoff playing with Satch in Boston. He's still just as good as he was then. I also saw John Mellencamp at the Beacon last year in NYC. Thankfully he played his whole set.And he smoked the whole show.

It may be pre-recorded, but Kenny Aronoff is actually playing from the looks of it. The famous fill is spot on. No doubt the reverse cymbal a few bars later isn't live (lol).
@@lydiasefton4780 Proof? C'mon, Lydia... How many times have you listened to your favorite songs, that you heard on the radio, or CD, or if you're old enough... a record player, cassette, 8-track? After you've listened to the same "studio version" of a song, hundreds of times... you get to know virtually every nuance of that song. (You know that song, by heart.) So when a video comes around, containing that studio version of the same song, BUT... the video shows a live performance... you KNOW you're listening to the studio version (in part or in whole) dubbed into the audio part of the video. A live performance is NEVER is the same as a studio cut. You can tell the difference... IMMEDIATELY. However... JM's voice was actual, in this video. But, the music was not. Read the other responses for other "tells" as to why they know it was prerecorded. It is impossible to perform an "exact" studio version of a song.
Is that Donald Trump?! Interesting Is that Donald Trump?! One of the greatest American songwriters of all time --- God bless John Mellencamp !! Interesting
It would be nice if Mellencamp could just sing his songs during a concert and not spew his bullcrap politics to the crowd. We go to a show to get away from that kind of crap.

Mellencamp's hits have stood the test of time better...and he's had more of them AND continues to have hits, despite changing his "genre." Springsteen did a Jeep commercial recently...who's been cucked again?
I had no idea that this existed this is why TH-cam is so great
I love that bass part....

That's not the part I remember of the song. I love the intro and that acoustic guitar and electric too!

I love ❤️ this song ❤️ 🎵 💕 it's a feel good vibe that you would hear when you're driving down the road with the radio cranked up🎉🎉
Magnificent live performance.
ok!, it's silly and crazy BUT! Love you J.M and the songs you make. You keep the 60;s style alive and i think that's why a lot people love your songs
I remember the series and this episode. Thanks for sharing!!!
Just watched a Kenny Aronoff interview on how he came up with that drum fill interlude.
That was Phil Collins worthy.
Old SCTV days! Loved that show!
He is one cool cat.
John Candy!!! 😃
Omg john good man and Martin short in the same skit as one of my fave songs abd dear lord i miss 80 trousers
That's John Candy not John Goodman

John Cougar Menstral Cramp! This is how he’s gonna be remembered! 😂👍
That is hilarious 😂 never saw it before
Rip john candy😢
Kenny's "Sex, Drums, Rock n Roll" autobio brought me here (great on Audible). His analysis of that iconic solo is fascinating.
The ending was funny 😆
Love it baby
to be COMPLETELY honest i did do and/or probably will really LOVE john mellencamp
The tart on John candy’s table looks like haystack hair Liz McDonnell from coronation street
The only thing missing is a Huey Lewis cameo.
Nice Freakin’ Video!
Coolest
The music is all pre-recorded, but John is singing totally live.

The acoustic guitar is not plugged in and doesn't have a mic.
Proof please
I count three amps on stage and NOT one of them has the power light illuminated, 😂 😂.

Very young Kenny Aronoff on drums.
4.54 Esa parte me recuerda a Tracy Chapman ¿se inspiro?
When Larry Crane left the band didn't seem the same anymore.
What is this comment section
He really punched that guy in the stomach
Hahahahaha!
It seems Kenny A. & John are live, and the acapella is live, but there is no piano on stage and none of the guitars are plugged in?
LOL at 2:08 hahaha
John Wasn't That You With Tina Guintoli About 50 Years Ago. I'm Thinking 🤔.
Is that John Candy?!

Was that the real John Mellencamp or an actor?
Real
I was wrong, thought it was going to be lip sync performance
John was singing live to a pre-recorded backing track.
Cougar was an actor
Is this70$
Love the song... Mick Jagger "wanna be"...??
Actually the entire group acts like the Stones...!!
I thought so too 😅
These guys are almost as good as Tony Tiger Berry Penitentiary
I didn't realize that either John candy was so tall or John Mellencamp was so small
Is that Donald Trump?!

When a perforner starts YELLING and racing through a song it is a sure sign that performer is totally burned out on that song......
We used to be young! No matter. Still a great song. Today, I bet Jack and Diane are Trumpers 😂
Actually John’s a liberal
That's John Candy not John Goodman for all the goofballs on this thread that think it's goodman
playback. :(
he's a tiny little man....lol....
So are you
John was 5'8....average......John candy was 6'2 and 300 pounds.
@@Jakevoss96 I am aren't I....But still alive....and kicking....dkhd! lol
J.M NOT LIKE ROLLING STONES, IN THE LEAST. MICK JAGGER COULD NOT DANCE UNTIL TINA TURNER TAUGHT HIM. THIS GROUP ROCKS. STONES TOO, BUT NO COMPARISON.
Well, that started half on the rails but ended way below the tracks 😢🤢

Only the singing is live, just pay attention to the guitarists, it's so fake.
This was absolutely horrible. No wonder it just now revealed itself.
Music is great, but the man is a bit weak. Cucked by the Boss.
Mellencamp's hits have stood the test of time better...and he's had more of them AND continues to have hits, despite changing his "genre." Springsteen did a Jeep commercial recently...who's been cucked again?
The Boss always sucked. It's all about Johnny Cougar
Complete As*****!!!
