Not 1 bad guitarist ever in Thin Lizzy, all very underated, but none have been able to duplicate Eric's original version; sound, solo, structure, style.
Underrated by whom exactly? I love them. They are the best hard rock band of the seventies. I could care less if anyone else recognizes the greatness that is Thin Lizzy.
I've always said if Jimi Hendrix ever picked up a bass this is what is would sound like--he was way ahead, not many bassists could sing and play that good--no one has, or will, touch Phil.
Wow. This takes me back. Saw Thin Lizzy several times during the Eric Bell days (and before Whisky in the Jar) Truly excellent band. Wish I could go back there. Brian Downey and Phil Lynott were one of the best rhythm sections I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. I'm still a Lizzy fan. Thanks for posting this vid.
What I'd give to teleport back in time and see one of the jams from the Eric era! Longer tracks like Funky Nomadic Tribes must have been especially groovy live
I have always thought the studio version of this was way ahead of its time with Mr. Bell, he absolutely owns this track but have never seen any footage like this! This is incredible to see, thank you for posting.
En mi opinión,el mejor guitarrista que tuvo la banda, los comienzos de Thin Lizzy estaban lejos de definir su sonido, pero fueron esos tres primeros lp's,los más creativos de su historia.
Rockpalast is the best German channel for film of these classics. Teenage audiences still motionless though - white and uptight (like me!), even for geniuses like Wire.
Eric def had his place in the history of Thin Lizzy. They wrote some brilliant stuff with him. Remembering - Mama Nature Say - Hero & The Mad Man - Vagabonds of The Western World. Sitamoia. Randalph's Tango. Little Darlin'. He was a class act. I loved Scott and Robbo too. Best hard rock band ever by a country mile. UFO? Judas Priest etc? Don't make me laugh!
Eric bell is such a guitar wizard one of my favourites love the imagination he puts into his playing and the sounds he gets out of minimal gear true master of the instrument
Great sound and not a valve in sight! 100w transistor HH heads and a Colorsound Overdriver and a wah pedal, and a pure genius on the guitar. I cut my teeth on Lizzy mk2 (Robbo and Scott), great band, but I listen more to the original 3 piece now, much more inventive back then.
Phil Lynott, he was The Rocker he was also was the greatest rocking, songwriter, wordsmith, leader of the band, storyteller and singer of all times, Thin Lizzy was the very greatest rocking band this took to any stage on Gods green earth, I say that this is true because by 6 brothers witness this with own eyes many many many times at Thin Lizzy gigs and concerts all over those lands. I still miss Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy and will do for evermore even if I live for 375 more years
Doh ! I was talking about even Brian DOWNEY (Thin Lizzy drummer - in case you didn't know !) being drowned out by Gary Moore ! As well as drowning out Scott . Yes , apologies for cocking up his name - I was suffering with the flu at the time and could hardly see the monitor - lol ! I was also talking about the Robertson/Gorham lineup(Brian/Scott) being the best lineup apart from the Eric Bell years actually. Many thanks to ICETERICIA for putting this brilliant video on TH-cam - GR8 stuff !
F**KIN HELL!, YAS!........what a band they were man, I love that 3 piece, they were outstanding man, Brian Downey, OOOOOFT!, superb, Eric Bell, a cosmic irish blues man, and Phillo, jeezuz, a poet, frontman, incredible bass player and lyricist, BOOM!.
Thin Lizzy love Vagabond's of the western world Great Album !!!! love this tune cool video Thank You rip Phil Lynott my fav Bass Player Lead Man !!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is fantastic. The band is truly rocking. What an immensive power playing by Bell... I saw the other video's on youtube earlier, but later they were removed. Please upload them again! There is so little known about these early Lizzy gigs... this is about the only video of Lizzy with Eric Bell!
Haha. "fanny kicking band." Phil would have loved that description. In Ireland and the UK, we use the word fanny the way Americans use the word pussy. Never as ass.
These would absolutely be absolute legendary giants in their own life time if Phil hadn't of overdosed and died, Can you imagine how massive they would be if they were around today (this original line up), I think they would be up there with the likes of purple and the like.
i worked with Eric on the 20th vibefor philo whata gentleman! i was using a gitane Django reinhehart copy guitar. after the gig in Dublin, he asked if he could have a go and the Bugger can play Django stuff too! only guy to play with Jimi Hendrix's bass player and drummer UNDERATED? not by me!!!! what a great clip warts and all what an honour to play Whiskey in the jar with him at SLATTERYS on capel st
The camera angles were more focused on the ART logo, crane shots, and bored footage of audience members than of the band itself. I would have preferred a close-up of Eric's guitar solo instead of a view of the lighting rig...
It sparkles, doesn't it? So many rock bands are effected by the Sabbath effect for the last two decades. The 70's were vibrant with what was coming through. No doubt about it.
Thumbs up if this still rocks in 2024!!!!!!!!
Of course. Which new rock band even comes close ?
Phill was an angel set from God and dammit that's the truth!!!
absolutely
Everyone killed it, but cheers to Eric Bell. Dude slays.
Not 1 bad guitarist ever in Thin Lizzy, all very underated, but none have been able to duplicate Eric's original version; sound, solo, structure, style.
That's a fact and I've heard so many versions of whiskey in the jar Eric Bells is the best by far,and Black Boys on the Corner ,stunning guitar work.🎉
This lineup was😊
Criminally under-rated band.
OhmyGAWD. Definitely REDICULOUSLY UNDERRATED!!!!
They were big back in the day. 80’s new wave eclipsed rock.
Underrated by whom exactly? I love them. They are the best hard rock band of the seventies. I could care less if anyone else recognizes the greatness that is Thin Lizzy.
Is very famous in all the world of rock.
Eric Bell is an incredible guitarist.
Phil Lynott is an incredible bass guitarist.
Bell’s solo is epic!
Brian Downey on drums - massive!
Eric Bell such an underrated guitarist,..... what a solo
ERIC BELL - WHAT AN UNDERRATED SENSATIONAL GUITARIST!!!
Yes. One of the best guitarists ever. Better than most well knowns.
First time I've heard this version it' s bloody good.
holy shit people...this is a rock n roll show...WAKE UP!!!
Que gente desanimada. Se esse show fosse no Brasil estavam todos pulando.
Bell's solo is awesome, but shout out to Brian Downey on the skins!
I've always said if Jimi Hendrix ever picked up a bass this is what is would sound like--he was way ahead, not many bassists could sing and play that good--no one has, or will, touch Phil.
phil?
@@cesirwin1973 Phil Lynott?
No alot of eric bell video out there!! This is gold!!! I love the trio sound!
They put Ireland 🇮🇪 on the map, musically. Everyone loved Phil Lynott up and down the country for his modesty and talent... Sadly missed.
He seemed like such a modest man ❤
🇮🇪Rory Gallagher just entered the chat
Phil and Lemmy! Great bass players!

I didn't know Phil was playing Rickenbackers back then. I still can't afford one but I heard the action on those are insane. Great song, great band.
Camera man filming other camera crew and the rafters when all I really want to see is the band and Bell's brilliant solo.
That’s the director’s fault, calling shots in the booth under the influence of some heavy chemicals. Wretched!
En mi opinión,el mejor guitarrista que tuvo la banda, los comienzos de Thin Lizzy estaban lejos de definir su sonido, pero fueron esos tres primeros lp's,los más creativos de su historia.
This surely the best version?? Eric Bell OWNS this track!!
Fav Solo of all times
love the way phil THUMPS the shit outta that rickerbacker!
Great front man, super musicians, tight sound, great tunes. The whole package.
Rockpalast is the best German channel for film of these classics. Teenage audiences still motionless though - white and uptight (like me!), even for geniuses like Wire.
Great band from the very start!! Eric Bell was so amazing on guitar.

Great song 🎶 god bless you Phil 🙏🏼
Totally...he's absolutley a legend and a seriously under-rated guitarist...

Great to see Phil really getting into playing the bass.
Go Eric go! What a player❤🎸🎼
Eric still gets it done....he guested on Gary Moore's tribute to Phil about 5 yrs ago...good stuff
one of the top classic rock bands RIP Phil
Eric Bell was a BEAST 😂
For more fabulous Eric Bell guitar playing, have a listen to the solo on" Little Girl in Bloom" from the Vagabond´s album.
Agree mate, What a song
The solo from "The Hero and the Madman" is also awesome
Carl Ryder ok I hear you but come on the solo for hero and the madman was M E S M E R I Z I N GG
Eric is too GREAT!
I still play Little Girl a few times a week just for Eric's outro solo. Mesmerizing. Vastly underrated and totally unique guitarist
wow. Phil on a Rickenbacker. Never seen that before. Thanks for posting.
One of my fauvorites from Lizzys early days. Solo is great and very hard.

Eric Bell, awesome! Phil Lynott, words haven't been made yet.
This is freaking the most so good
Git it! Love this edit of this performance. I had only seen the grainy one with the ”zombie” audience shots.
Never seen this tape. I love it :-)
I love this song. This is Rock N' Roll.
This is a brilliant version, never heard it before. There's a similar video of them doing Whisky In The Jar and Phill is playing a Telecaster
Best TL song ever ... thanks for the upload.

Priceless!
Phil , o Hendrix do contrabaixo ! 🎸🎸🎸🎸✊✊✊
Great live performance, its a shame that the audience isn't Rockin' to the Rockers.
Met Eric two years ago and got to play the guitar he is using here. It's more or less the only one he ever used
You lucky bastard...
I've met Eric a few times too - what a great and nice guy his is just to sit chatting with :-) My fave lineup of TL - I saw them in '73 :-)
Luke Luke He sholdnt have routed it for humbuckers though. It still sounds great with humbuckers but not this good!
Long live Thin Lizzy and R.I.P Phil Lynott.
"I'm a rocker and a roller too honey!"
Eric Bell is just amazing in this video!!
A true gem !!!.....what else can one say.
thank you ictericia!gràcias ictericia!MENUDO RECITAL EN BERLIN DE...THIN LIZZY!!!
Did Phil Lenot write the lyric? Ya the guitarist has skills for sure.
Very, very underrated band. If you are a Rock N' Roll fan, and you own no Thin Lizzy.........Well, step back and ask yourself "why"?
Paved the way for Irish music😀
he's elegance when he plays that guitar!!!! he was perfect
